Best / Most Liquid Contracts to Trade

Recommended Posts

Hi

I only have a limited time frame to daytrade futures due to my job. What contracts would you say that are most liquid and suitable to trade between 7am-8:30am (NYC time)? Looking for decent liquidity and volatility

Thank you!

By nature, volatility and liquidity are on opposite sides of the scale. The greater the liquidity the less volatility. What your looking for is as much volatility as you require, with sufficient liquidity.

Check out /6E for your timeframe.

You're probably best looking at something on Eurex. For example the Bund or Eurostoxx.

Hi,

You could always take the 'market scan' type approach - just sit down and look at what's moving on the day - if the eurozone is collapsing then @EC might be going places (is this the same contract that you guys all call 6E - never quite been sure?), if half the Persian gulf is aflame, then perhaps @CL, and if there's major collapse of the banking infrastructure, then @ES.

And some days are just quiet all round, so maybe you had better avoid these if your strategy requires volatility.

For your timeframe I think that Euro would be your choice, although most of the indices and oil have decent moves during those hours despite relative lower volume.

What i do to decide what gives the most bang for the buck is calculate the dollar atr for the 1 min timeframe (100 min atr) and multiply it for the dollars per tick. Usually oil comes up at 1st, gold 2nd. But i do it after 9 ny time.

Now, it all depends on your trading strategy, which should be adequate for that timeframe.
