James or Walter, for those of us who do not use TS, would you explain how this oscillator is computed?

Well, not quite Blu-Ray. I see in the code that down tick volume is subtracted from the uptick volume. What I don't understand is how this becomes an oscillator. Perhaps you can explain it for us.

I've never used it, I just downloaded it to get the code for you.

Just quickly looking at the code and using the default settings:

It's based on an 2 period ema of the upticks - downticks. Then that value is put into a 3 period sma and the 1st line is plotted.

Then the 2nd line is a 3 period sma of the first line.

Hope this helps

James,

Regardless of the form this indicator comes in, do you believe that watching for divergence in price versus the OSC is valid for entry near S/R. In other words, is this indicator a true representation for buying and selling pressure? I'm fairly new to trading and have been interested in trading more via price action than with indicators, but in looking at this indicator is seems to do a good job of displaying possible change of direction via divergence fairly well. Am I accurate in my assumption? If so, it seem extreamly powerful.

On another topic I believe you use Market Profile in your trading. Correct me if I'm wrong. Can MP be as simplistic as using VAH, VAL and POC's as support and resistance and watching how price behaves in these areas and trade accordingly, or is it/does it need to be more complicated than that? Thanks.

David

Hi David,

I will not vouch for any indicator simply because I do not use them. If you can read volume and price bars volume delta related indicators are not necessary. However it can be a good tool to visually aid you to see price and volume divergence.

Regarding MP... you can choose to make it as simple as that or more complex than that. It comes down to how you want to use MP in your trading.Are you going to combine MP with other techniques or use MP as a stand alone trading tool? On top of MP pivots like VAH, VAl, POC.... I personally prefer to watch for pattern recognition so I know what type of day we may have. This allows me to place trades accordingly.

What are the settings for the volume breakdown indicator to get it into the format as the chart?

I actually added Volume Breakdown three times to that second pane to get that result. The buy volume just uses "Result: Buy Volume". The sell volume uses "Result: Sell Volume (Negative)" and the delta uses "Result: Delta (Buy - Sell Vol)".

Soul,

My intension was to us MP pivots as well as floor pivots as S/R and trade those areas in addition to previous highs and lows for the previous day. I would watch price at the these respective pivots on a higher timeframe and moved down to ower timeframs to see if there are high or low failures depending on the direction and trade based on that.

Would you be willing to go into greater detail when you talk about pattern recognition? I read that you don't use things like triangles etc as patterns. I'm assuming you don't mean double tops or bottoms either. Also, how does this (these patterns)give you insight as to what kind of day we may have? If you have examples you can post that would be of great help to me. Thanks.

Hi David,

Could you start a new thread on this topic? I will post a few charts.

I really like this indicator as it can be very helpful for spotting divergences, however the MA overlayed on the indicator is bugging the hell out of me. It gets in the way of seeing the actual histogram. I've tried modifying the code myself to remove the MA but i'm just randomly deleting lines of code and re-verifying to see if it disappears.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Try this:

smooth(3),
av (3);

Variables:
   MA_Up( 0 ),
   MA_Dn( 0 ),
   MA_Diff( 0 );

If BarType <= 1 then { Use only on Intra-Day Time or Tick Bars }
Begin

   { Moving Averages of Up&DownTicks and their Difference }
   If MAType_SMA_1_EMA_2_WMA_3 = 1 then

       Plot5( average (MA_Diff,smooth), "MA" );

   End;{If Plot_UpDn_1_or_Diff_2 = 2}

End; { if BarType <= 1 }

if plot2 > plot4 then setplotcolor (2,blue);

if plot2 > plot4 then setplotcolor (4,blue);

if plot2 < plot4 then setplotcolor (2,red);

if plot2 < plot4 then setplotcolor (4,red);

if Plot_MA_1_or_Off_0 <> 0 then
  begin
    plot6 (average(plot2, av));

Thanks forsearch!

Although, i think the wrong thing got turned off.

I verified your code and I turned on the ma in your code (changing 0 to 1) but the base data that comes up is not the plot, but the MA.

Hopefully this shows it, the one you posted is on the top, the stock one on the bottom.

attachment.php?attachmentid=7549&stc=1&d=1218927233

I'd like to keep the PLOT8 values from the bottom indicator and get rid of the MA. If that makes sense?

Thanks again!

Since I'm no longer a TS user, I just took a look at the code that was posted and gave it a quick one-off edit.

I'm sure someone who has TS or MC will give it a look for ya in due course.

      Hello traders,
      I am interested in order flow trading and I will post some trades and predictions, some articles and ideology of a bit different understanding how price moves and why. May be this forum will be the right place. So, for the start I have  couple of charts of recent trade on oil. Also I did some comparison of two different software. Would be great to meet some traders who use order flow too. Lets see. I have a lots ideas and strategies to share. I don't use any traditional indicators, because just numbers are important for me.

    • Date: 22nd January 2025.   Netflix Earnings Surge Driving the NASDAQ to Monthly Highs!   The NASDAQ increases in value for a fourth consecutive day, gaining momentum after Netflix stocks rise more than 15%. Earnings reports are gaining speed for the technology sector, but why has Netflix stocks seen such a high and sudden rise in demand? Netflix Stocks Increase 15% Supporting the NASDAQ! Netflix stocks have been one of the best-performing stocks within the NASDAQ, rising more than 79% in 12 months. However, even for Netflix, a 15% rise in less than 24 hours is considered substantial. The quarterly earnings report was made public by Netflix after the market closed on Tuesday. The earnings report confirmed the following: Netflix beat their earnings per share expectations - $4.27 reported vs $4.21 expectations. Netflix’s revenue surpasses the previous quarter - $10.25 billion this quarter vs $9.82 billion in the previous quarter. The online streaming company confirms projects to expand into live sport and event streaming will proceed. In addition to this, the company’s forward guidance for 2025 remains positive. Netflix is the 10th most influential company for the NASDAQ meaning the positive earnings data and bullish price movement supports the overall price of the NASDAQ. In addition to this, the positive earnings improve the sentiment towards the entire US technology sector. Investors will now turn their attention to the quarterly earnings report for Intuitive Surgical. Intuitive Surgical stocks on Tuesday rose 1.94%. How is the Economy And Politics Affecting the NASDAQ?     The US stock market is witnessing an upward correction after struggling in the last weeks of 2024. The bullish price movement is a result of a sharp decline in bond yields, the new US administration and earnings season. Investors remain relieved that bond yields have fallen back down from the 5.00% level. If bond yields continue to decline further, particularly below 4.50%, the move would be deemed as positive for the US stock market. President Trump took office on Monday and so far the pro-US rhetoric from the President, Vice President and Secretary of State continues to support the stock market. So far, the main concern is how upcoming tariffs can negatively affect inflation and growth. However, some economists advise tariffs will become the “norm” and may have a lesser effect compared to 2018. However, this is something traders will continue to evaluate and monitor. The VIX this morning fell 0.83% lower and trades more than 5.70% lower over a 7-days. The lower VIX indicates a higher risk appetite towards the stock market. If the VIX continues to decline a strong buy indication may materialize. On the most influential stocks for the NASDAQ, 82% rose in value on Tuesday. However, Apple stocks, the most impactful stock, fell 3.19% due to poor sell data. If Apple stocks continue to decline, the NASDAQ’s upward trend may come under strain. In the meantime, investors over the next week will continue to monitor upcoming earnings reports. NASDAQ - Technical Analysis The price of the index is trading significantly higher than all Moving Averages on a 2-hour timeframe and relatively high on oscillators. These factors indicate that buyers are controlling the order book. However, price action also confirms the latest impulse wave measures 3.43% which is normally the point at which the index retraces. This is something that investors may also consider. The retracement potentially also may be triggered by Netflix buyers quickly selling to cash in profit after the sudden 15% bullish surge. If a retracement does indeed form, price action and the 75-period EMA indicates that the pullback may drop as low as $21,391.30.     Key Takeaways: The NASDAQ increases in value for a fourth consecutive day, but price action signals a possible retracement before continuing its bullish trend. Netflix stocks increase more than 15% due to strong earnings data. Netflix beat earnings and revenue expectations by 1.39% and confirmed projects to add live sports streaming to its platforms. The VIX trades more than 5.70% lower over a 7-days and US Bond Yields remain at recent lows. On the most influential stocks for the NASDAQ, 82% rose in value on Tuesday.
