Song Of The Day

Recommended Posts

I rarely get a chance to hear decent music any more so I thought it would be good to have a thread that we can share songs that people might have missed whilst doing other things.

My track for today is Lake Of Shadows - Moving Hearts. It's been around for a while but it is new to me:

There is some talking at the start - the song starts 1:17 into this video. I think this is a breathtakingly beautiful song, but I played it to my wife and it did nothing for her - oh well I guess music is a very personal thing!

Ah yes - nice music indeed.

Jake will be a good player when he gets older ... lol!

That is seriously excellent playing skill - best I have seen ... thanks Mystic.

My high school years were in the late 1960's and so I was fortunate to imprint the best music of the 20th century! (Along with the EType Jag, the Ford Mustang, the Monaro, GTHO Falcon, and ... mini-skirts, Colour TV, Transistor Radios ... Bell bottomed trousers, Paisley shirts, pointy-toe shoes ... * )

But this song came along later, and unfortunately I only discovered Dan Fogelberg's music when he passed away prematurely in December 2007.

Enjoy one of his best! This song will touch you.

Ingot54,

You date yourself. We must be about the same age.

Dan Fogelberg was very cool.

I was never into Country, but I didn't realise how much I liked Johnny Cash untill he passed away.

Ingot54,

I was never into Country, but I didn't realise how much I liked Johnny Cash until he passed away.

The earlier Johnny Cash appealed to me more than his later stuff, though his music increased in popularity in other quarters. Yet I could not watch that video without everything about the man coming back - Man in Black, Folsom Prison, The Reverend Mr Black, and The Wreck of the Old 97 to name a few ...

My main thing has always been 'ballad-type" songs, and as this style only appeals to a few, I won't bore you with some of the stuff in my head!

So for today, we can take a trip back to nostalgia-town again, with Simon and Garfunkel ... classic stuff. There were live recordings of this available, but I decided to sacrifice the video content in favor of the pure musical treasure and delight that the original song is.

Best appreciated with good headphones this time.

This is turning into a trip down memory lane.

I saw Simon and Garfunkel Live in Central Park early 70s.

They finished with "Sounds of Silence" done A Cappella.

Man - what a privilege that would have been - I could write on the edge of a postage stamp the number of 'big name' artists I have seen live.

Here in Australia we had a late start on the rest of the world - today we can get the good ones to Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide ... and maybe another capital city or two, but some never make it to 'down under'.

This featured artist today toured Oz in 1973 with his 4 brothers - the first Black Group to ever tour here from overseas. Yes, it was The Jackson 5 and although Michael was planning to include Australia in his "This is It" world tour in 2009, he never got to begin the tour.

History records he died on 25th June 2009 - three weeks before due to commence his series of 50 concerts, starting from London.

The most memorable song for me was this one - and if you are a fan, you will have noticed as he got older, so did the strength of his voice. When choosing the version today, I noted some stronger vocals from him with this song, but the one I think I want to remember him most by, is the youthful version below.

Nice, Certenotti.

After that though, I need something lighter ... though it won't suit many!

Kids ... don't try this at home!

So ... now for something completely different ...

Well .... told you that wasn't for everyone ... and this will similarly not be for fans of popular music.

But In the interests of inclusivity, I would like to present what was something phenomenal, though by no means unique.

In 1985 Aled Jones, a Welsh boy-soprano, recorded this song: "Walking in the Air". The song was included in the movie: "The Snowman", though in that film it was sung by Peter Auty, not Jones.

The song reached No. 5 in the UK charts in 1985.

He has recorded twenty-four albums to date, many of which reached gold or platinum status in the UK and Australia.

Aled released a 'greatest hits' compilation album: "You Raise Me Up-The Best of Aled Jones" in November 2006, featuring a reprise of his song "Walking in the Air", which has now become a duet between young and present Aled.

For your enjoyment.

TradeRunner - I would like to hear more of your kind of music. You gave this thread to the forum, and I hope you don't feel pushed out by the kind of music you may not have intended to be listening to.

My contributions (and those of others) have provided a cross section of the creative talents of some of the worlds greatest ... and others! :)

I hope you are able to enjoy these:

One of my fav groups ... one of many :)

There isn't a "best song" from them - they didn't release a "bad" song!

Unfortunately I couldn't grab a good quality concert number, so had to settle for an album spoof!

This was released during the Vietnam days, and the comments under the Youtube bear testimony to how music kept the bonds strong amongst the troops, and burned in some memories of goodness amongst the hell of the SE Asian jungles.

I was fortunate that my name was by-passed in the ballot, but I knew many men who had been to 'Nam. Unfortunately I could not say any of them was a close friend of mine - these poor souls had no close friends except their own, and never will.

For your enjoyment ... and mine - a reminder of a great era in music.

    • Date: 2nd April 2025.   Market on Edge: Tariff Announcement and Volatility Ahead!   The US economic and employment data continues to deteriorate with the job vacancies figures dropping to a 5-month low. In addition to this, the IMS Manufacturing PMI also fell below expectations. However, both the US Dollar and Gold declined simultaneously following the release of the two figures, an uncommon occurrence in the market. Traders expect a key factor to be today’s ‘liberation day’ where the US will impose tariffs on imports. USDJPY - Traders Await Tariff Confirmation! Traders looking to determine how the USDJPY will look today will find it difficult to determine until the US confirms its tariff plan. Today is the day when Trump previously stated he would finalize and announce his tariff plan. The administration has not yet released the policy, but investors expect it to be the most expansionary in a century. President Trump is due to speak at 20:00 GMT. On HFM's Calendar the speech is stated as "US Liberation Day Tariff Announcement". Currently, analysts are expecting Trump’s Tariff Plan to impose tariffs on the EU, chips and pharmaceuticals later today as well as reciprocal tariffs. Economists have a good idea of how these tariffs may take effect, but reciprocal tariffs are still unspecified. In addition to this, 25% tariffs on the car industry will start tomorrow. The tariffs on the foreign cars industry are a factor which will particularly impact Japan. Although, traders should note that this is what is expected and is not yet finalised. Last week, President Trump stated that he would implement retaliatory tariffs but allow exemptions for certain US trade partners. Treasury Secretary Mr Bessent and National Economic Council Director Mr Hassett suggested that the restrictions would primarily target 15 countries responsible for the bulk of the US trade deficit. However, yesterday, Trump contradicted these statements, asserting that additional duties would be imposed on any country that has implemented similar measures against US products. The day’s volatility will depend on which route the US administration takes. The harshness of the policy will influence both the Japanese Yen as well as the US Dollar.   USDJPY 5-Minute Chart   US Economic and Employment Data The JOLT Job Vacancies figure fell below expectations and is lower than the previous month’s figure. The JOLT Job Vacancies read 7.57 million whereas the average of the past 6 months is 7.78 million. The ISM Manufacturing Index also fell below the key level of 50.00 and was 5 points lower than what analysts were expecting. The data is negative for the US Dollar, particularly as the latest release applies more pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. However, this is unlikely to happen if the trade policy ignites higher and stickier inflation. In the Bank of Japan’s Governor's latest speech, Mr Ueda said that the tariffs are likely to trigger higher inflation. USDJPY Technical Analysis Currently, the Japanese Yen Index is the worst performing of the day while the US Dollar Index is more or less unchanged. However, this is something traders will continue to monitor as the EU session starts. In the 2-hour timeframe, the USDJPY is trading at the neutral level below the 75-bar EMA and 100-bar SMA. The RSI and MACD is also at the neutral level meaning traders should be open to price movements in either direction. On the smaller timeframes, such as the 5-minute timeframe, there is a slight bias towards a bullish outcome. However, this is only likely if the latest bearish swing does not drop below the 200-Bar SMA.     The key resistant level can be seen at 150.262 and the support level at 149.115. Breakout levels are at 149.988 and 149.674. Key Takeaway Points: Job vacancies hit a five-month low, and the ISM Manufacturing PMI missed expectations, adding pressure on the Federal Reserve regarding interest rate decisions. Traders await confirmation on Trump’s tariff policy, which is expected to impact the EU, chips, pharmaceuticals, and foreign car industries. The severity of the tariffs will influence both the JPY and the USD, with traders waiting for final policy details. The Japanese Yen Index is the worst index of the day while the US Dollar Index is unchanged. Always trade with strict risk management.
