Traders Laboratory Forex Trading Contest!

Recommended Posts

Not looking good for next month either - Mysticforex is MIA since 6/1/2011. He's either on vacation or he is no longer interested in traderslaboratory.com

Maybe MadMarketaScientist could sett up an Oanda contest for July.

I just closed my second Oanda trade for June - it should show up in the results tonight.

i would like to join the nextcontest. can you send me details. thanks

brendanm,

In order to have a "Fun" contest it's nice to have at least 10 participants.

If we get 10 people to commit to a contest only 5 will actually join.

Of the 5 that join only 2 will compete/trade.

I like to have 1 month contests. enough time so nobody wins by a crazy flash in the pan trade. I can't commit to a July contest, but I will give it a go for august if we have enough participants.

The comp is still open ... we just need participants ... and someone to run it.

We can run it same a s last year, if people are willing to use OANDA ... or we can write new rules, stipulating start/finish times, and traders either posting a chart showing their entries/exits, or simply post the levels at time of entry/exit.

If no one can run it, then traders could try to resurrect the idea of a comp through placing trades here to try to stimulate interest.

I'm up for a new comp.

Anyone else?

Below is an example of a trade in progress ... that's all we would need to show, but post the chart immediately after entry to validate the trade as a comp. entry.

Can anything go wrong with that idea?

We have 7 days to organise a comp for August. Obviously too short a time frame to muster the entries, going on past efforts.

I think the Oanda model was excellent - results were beyond questioning as Mystic Forex had access to the final numbers.

The Oanda platform is not a rocket manual, and is only required for placing trades, not charting - you can do that at your current place and just use Oanda for the actual demo trades.

Can we start counting heads for this ... maybe for September? With the current TL membership numbers (77,000) it should be a shoo-in to grab 10 starters!

Maybe we need to offer some incentive ... like CMC did ... below.

EDIT: Maybe charge $10/entry ... winner-take-all?

Just thoughts to kick the can along.

"EDIT: Maybe charge $10/entry ... winner-take-all?

Even if it's only $50, people get funny when money is involved...

I administered a contest once, where the prize was an all expense trip, from wherever the winner was, to NYC, to trade with a guru for 1 week. There were about 130 contestants. It was bloody brutal, with allegations of cheating etc etc. I got myself banned from FF (where the contest was held) in the process.

The winner turned out to be a chap from London. He couldn't get the time off, so he asked for $1K instead. The friend who I was running the contest for, paid him and considered it a deal.

So, no money.

I'd be game for September if we can get at least 5 contestants.

I believe under the old rules, we could trade any instrument that was offered by Oanda. or was it confined to Forex only?

Can you confirm this, Mystic?

Yes, correct. Any instrument offered by Oanda.

I am thinking of a max draw down rule as well, say 5%? we'll see what the consensus is. I'll post all the ( just a few ) well in advance.

Is this only for oanda?

The contest that Mystic Forex ran back in March-April 2011 was based on contestants joining the competition by entering their a/c number into the contest registered by Mystic Forex. It was done this way to give Mystic access to the trades and balances, in order to publish regular figures and a leader-board, and ultimately to determine the winner.

The Oanda a/c will be a demo account, linked under Mystic Forex's supervision / sub/account, I believe.

Go back to the beginning of this thread and read posts #27 -to - # 30. That will explain a lot of it. Keep reading and you will see how it played out. Once you have a demo account with Oanda, you can go to the "Contests" section, and register with the "Mystic Forex" group - at least that's how is worked last year, and should be the same this time.

To answer your question more fully - so far Oanda is the only place we have operated.

Do you know of any other platforms we can co-ordinate the trades closely enough to manage the contest? Many traders may have tried MT4 or some of the others, but Oanda seems purpose-built for this.

Mt4 contests are run all the time on myfxbook. I think mt4i.com has ability to run your own contests if you do not have your own management software. Oanda's mt4 bridge is lousy and I cannot afford news time lockdowns (brief freezes are ok).

I was looking for mt4, so not sure if I can join this contest yet.

Maybe you could administer the contest on Myfxbook ?

Let us know.

    • Date: 26th November 2024. Trump’s tariff threats boosted Dollar; Peso, Loonie, Gold & Oil Lower. The Trump trade picked up steam as investors cheered his pick for Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent. Beliefs he will be a steadying voice in the administration’s fiscal measures, while still following President-elect Trump’s tariff and tax commitments, underpinned. Asia & European Sessions:   Trump threatened on Monday to impose sweeping new tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico on his first day as US President to crack down on illegal immigration and drugs. He would impose a 25% tax on all products entering the country from Canada and Mexico, and an additional 10% tariff on goods from China as one of his first acts as president of the US. Bessent’s 3-3-3 plan aims to cut the deficit to 3% of GDP, boost growth to 3%, and increase oil production to 3 mln barrels. Treasury yields dove in a curve flattener, extending their drops through the session, on expectations inflation will decelerate. A strong 2-year auction also supported. The Dow led the charge, climbing 0.99% to 44,736, a new record peak as the rally broadens. The S&P500 climbed to 6020, a session peak, but finished with a 0.3% gain to 5987. The NASDAQ closed 0.27% higher. Today, stock markets in Europe are posting broad losses, with the DAX down -0.6%, the FTSE 100 0.4%, after a largely weaker close across Asia. ECB: Lane suggests ECB must be open-minded on speed of rate cuts. The ECB’s Chief Economist said in a speech on Monday evening that “remaining open-minded about the speed and scale of adjustments is in fact a valuable strategy across various environments, as different situations may necessitate distinct approaches.” This careful, step-by-step strategy enables us to observe the responses of the economy to our decisions and continuously refine our understanding of their impacts.” The comments leave the door open to a 50 bp move in December, but also tie in with our expectation that the central bank will deliver a 25 bp while tweaking the forward guidance and commit to additional moves. Financial Markets Performance: The USDIndex hit a session high of 107.50 and is currently lower at 106.85. Mexican peso and Canadian dollar slumped as the dollar is being viewed as a haven after the comments of President-elect Donald Trump on tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. USDCAD spiked to 1.4177 and USDMXN rallied to 20.74. Oil and Gold lost ground, in part on cooling geopolitical risks, and on Trump trades. Oil dropped -3.03% to $69.09 per barrel, in part on the Trump trade and on talk of a potential cease fire between Israel and Hezbollah. Similarly, gold fell -3.26% to $2605 per ounce.
