Hello everyone!

I'm pretty much a newbie in the light of all your knowledge and experience. I am a student studying Accounting and Finance with a fascination for everything investment related. I have purchased a few stocks with what little funds I have but no more really than just to say I own some shares haha. I have run a few virtual portfolios on Investopedia for about a year and a half now, and recently tried my hand at their FX trading simulator. I'm fairly good at appraising common stocks using various financial ratios and financial statements but am still lacking much knowledge on the technical analysis part. I have learnt a bit about candlestick charts and such techniques as the fib retracement patterns. I know I have so much more to learn and I look forward to reading and contributing on this site with you all!

Been looking for a good trading forum for ages!

Karim

Welcome Karim! It's important to try to identify the objectives for your strategy before deciding which methods to employ. Make sure once you do decide on your methods, you understand fully how they work. There is a danger that new investors/traders chop and change methods in order to find that "secret sauce" or "holy grail". What they often miss is that it's more about themselves. Good luck in your investing/trading and enjoy the forums!

Hello everyone. I'm new to this site as of today. i find it very interesting and hope that it maybe can help me with my trading woes. I started trading S&P minis about 18 months ago and have blown my small account two or three times. At this point, I've stopped trading with hopes to continue at some point in the near future. I really love trading, but i wish i could do it and make a profit. Luckily, i have a full time job and have been able to survive the losses. Last round of trading i felt i was making progress, but then lost all profits in a matter of a couple of days.In looking around this website, i see that others have had the same experiences. Thank you all for sharing them. I hope this site gives me the inspiration to continue trading soon. thanks.

Welcome to TL Joe! Lots of people have had similar experiences to you. It's almost as some say, the cost of a trading education. Just make sure you learn the lessons well. If you keep getting the same results, then there may be something you are missing. Members here are experienced and always generous with sharing their knowledge, so if you have something you're unsure of, just ask! Pop over to the e-mini thread link in my sig if you still want to trade the eminis.

    • I'm still a dove regarding crypto trading. Not because of the instruments traded, but because of the lack of market centralization. It reminds me of the early days of forex trading where no broker-dealers offered trade clearing via the interbank market. This is basically betting against "the house" which is its own captive market-maker, has its own one-off price feed, and has its own one-off trade execution policies. As a side note, I always opt out of broker-dealers' arbitration clauses within 30 days of account opening pursuant to the U.S. Federal Arbitration Act. Unscrupulous broker-dealers and platform sellers don't even provide opt-out terms in their trading/subscription agreements, but it still exists pursuant to federal statutes and federal court precedent. Sierra Chart also collects unspent platform subscription deposits from traders in their website's online "wallet." This subjects them not only to FINRA liability but CFPB liability as well. I figuratively atom bombed Sierra Chart with this info and they refunded all platform fees and data fees that I ever paid to them before I closed my Sierra Chart account. On a more general note, virtually all broker-dealers are either partnered with, or straight up are, Wall Street investment banks and hedge funds. These are the folks that refer to retail traders as "cannon fodder" and "fish food." To me, any broker-dealer is nothing more than a counterparty to a series of my transactions. If I find any reason not to trust a broker-dealer, I'm out. Crypto trading, as it presently exists, fits the bill. Crypto owning/investment might be a different story, but I'm strictly a trader.
    • Consider this... While a human trader has emotions, a bot does not. All a human trader needs to do to code a statistically profitable strategy on a good emotional day. And it can be coded for any timeframe, intraday or overnights.
    • Well said. Broker-dealers that aren't connected to centralized exchanges or the prime interbank exchanges are, in fact, casinos--where nothing extends beyond "the house."
    • My latest trick... After successfully live trading forex for years, switch to trading futures in the U.S. Chicago Mercantile Exchanges. Futures spreads are generally 1 or 2 ticks with no swaps, and data fees and commission fees are fixed. As a caveat, leverage changes throughout every day based on international sessions, so this is not for small accounts.
