hi ,

does anyone trade the korean market using mt4 ?

would be thankful for the tip

regards

sridhar

In Korea, mt4 is not available.

One company (named KR Futures) provides mt3 for forex, i remember.

But I've heard that that's going to be unavailable soon due to the government

policy regarding the public authentification blah blah thing.

I don't know if there's one in US or in Europe.

hi Jonny,

Thanks a lot .

for example ODL securities provides US , European stocks and index as CFDs and one can see them in MT4 ; mt4 naturally has more technical capabilities and one can trade the stocks or options even though its a forex platform.

So in Korean stock market or Kospi 200 , which is the best "programmable technical chart" platform ? which one can download and customize ?

sridhar

There're two data feeding companies which provide tradestation 2000i. One of them also provides multicharts 3.x. (Usually futures or securities companies in Korea do both data feeding & brokerage thing. But to use TS, we need to use one of those companies' services. And it's really really

expensive.)

And there're two local companies which provide trading platforms very similar to TS. It's CybosTrader & YesTrader. (I use YesTrader.) IMHO, these two are not as good as TS. (But they are progressing.) And CT & YT have no english version.

If you know how to code VisualBasic or C++, there're some companies provide APIs.

Most of companies have their own trading platform, and they provide simulation trading which requires registration. You can use it for free. Unfortunately, it's all in korean language and I don't think it's available for non-koreans because there should be a korean ID number (which is similar to SSN in US).

hope this helps.

Hi Geoff, welcome.

I would certainly use the search function on this great site to answer your question(s). There is plenty of opinion about trading platforms/brokers etc

Personally I can reccommend Sierra charts for charting and Infinity Brokers for USA/EUREX trading. Outside of this I cannot reccommend Tradestaion due to relaiability issues and being out of touch with what customers really need. However every platform have their weaknesses/Strengths ... All depends on what you want to try and achieve.

Hope that helps

All the Best

John

Hello, I am a new futures trader. Have previous experience with stocks and 1 yr daytrading experience in stocks. The year I spent daytrading was quite the learning curve! What a rollercoaster. I really beat myself up after about only a gain of 1% but looking back I got a lot of screen time and break even is great for my first try. Had a 27k account then. taxes were a nightmare !

Time to move on to futures. have 5k account lost 12% in my first week trading mostly es and a little ym :crap: doing more simulator time now. Losses mostly due to bad stop placement, bad trade management. When stock trading I had trouble trading things like qqqq and qid qld when i was doing stocks, and better success with mainstream single stocks like ibm and such. Perhaps the volatility in the es is too much for my little account and small stops.

I am looking forward to being part of this community, I have lurked on other boards and this one seems quite civil.

Any advice on some nice liquid futures markets to check out besides es and ym for my account size? Corn and Currencies look interesting.

I took quite a spanking last week and I must thank the market for what was a great reality check!:)

Welcome.

Corn is great place to start with futures. I wouldn't recommend currency futures for a small account, maybe the minis but I'm not sure about the liquidity.

Good luck.

Hi,

Just starting now. Mainly interested in spread betting. No previous experience, just basic concepts. Starting slowly, with demo accounts, reading books and stuff...

Hi Geoff,

Im also from Aus, and learning european indicies and the euro currency pairs.

Backtesting is an interesting one.. for intraday work it seems quite difficult, i haven't seen anywhere you can get historical intraday data (on non us markets) at the tick or minute level.

An application called Ninja Trader seems highly regarded, the interface is a bit obtuse but it has some powerful features including simulator functionality and the ability to develop strategies in c#.

Who's your broker/market maker? If they provide software to trade though, thats probably a good start, and wont cost you too much in money and learning an app you wont be able to easily apply when actually trading.

Just wanted to thank all of the traders who take the time to post. It really helps to see what other traders are experiencing in their day to day trading.

I lost my job about 7 months ago and have been trading ever since with break even results. I had always wanted to give it a shot full time (been studying and trading for 5 years) just didn't think it would be now.

After doing it for 7 months now and only breaking even, I really don't want a real job! This job is great! Hope to get better in the days ahead.

One thing I have figured out is that there is no easy way, no one indicator or anything else that is going to magically make me a profitable trader. Sitting down in front of the screen and getting experience, discipline, focus, preperation and perfecting my methodolgy is the only way. I still watch peoples videos and look at different websites for anything that will make me more knowledgeable but I refuse to pay for these "Holy Grail Systems" that you see pimped on the internet. I had one e-mail that wanted $10,000 for 3 - 4 weeks of training. Will somebody really fork over TEN GRAND. You could open an account and read some books and teach yourself.Hope I didn't offend anybody trying to promote something. Anyway, just my opinion.

Thanks for the help!

    • Date: 25th November 2024. New Secretary Cheers Markets; Trump Trade Eased. Asia & European Sessions:   Equities and Treasuries rise, as markets view Donald Trump’s choice of Scott Bessent for Treasury Secretary as a stabilizing decision for the US economy and markets. Bessent: Head of macro hedge fund Key Square Group, supports Trump’s tax and tariff policies but gradually. He is expected to focus on economic and market stability rather than political gains. His nomination alleviates concerns over protectionist policies that could escalate inflation, trade tensions, and market volatility. Asian stocks rose, driven by gains in Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Chinese equities fail to follow regional trends, presenting investors’ continued disappointment by the lack of strong fiscal measures to boost the economy. The PBOC keeps policy loan rates unchanged after the September cut. US futures also see slight increases. 10-year Treasury yields fall by 5 basis points to 4.35%. Nvidia dropped 3.2%, affected by its high valuation and influence on broader market trends. Intuit fell 5.7% after a disappointing earnings forecast. Meta Platforms declined 0.7% following the Supreme Court’s decision to allow a class action lawsuit over the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Financial Markets Performance: The US Dollar declines as US Treasuries climb. Bitcoin recovers from a weekend drop, hovering around 98,000, having more than doubled in value this year. Analysts suggest consolidation around the 100,000 level before any potential breakthrough. EURUSD recovers slightly to 1.0463 from 1.0320 lows. Oil prices drop after the largest weekly increase in nearly two months, with ongoing geopolitical risks in Ukraine and the Middle East. UKOIL fell below $75 a barrel, while USOILis at $70.35. Iran announced plans to boost its nuclear fuel-making capacity after being censured by the UN, increasing the potential for sanctions under Trump’s administration. Israel’s ambassador to the US indicated a potential cease-fire deal with Hezbollah, which could ease concerns about Middle Eastern oil production, a region supplying about a third of the world’s oil. Russia’s war in Ukraine escalated with longer-range missile use, raising concerns about potential disruptions to crude flows. Citigroup and JPMorgan predict that OPEC may delay a planned increase in production for the third time during their meeting this weekend.
