Hi everyone! It is great to be here. I just landed on this site a few days ago and I am enjoying all the information.

I am a stay at home mother and housewife. My children are all in school now and I have a lot of time on my hands. I have an insatiable curiousity and find I need to stay busy. I stumbled upon day trading in the spring and have been studying the subject ever since.

Currently, I am working on a trading plan. I plan to trade currencies and will start with one pair at this time. I will begin backtesting strategies to narrow down a strategy or two. Trading plan will include stops and limits. Not interested in swing trading at this time. In and out before closing works for me. Basically, I am trying to include every risk measure possible in my plan.

There are a couple of things on my mind and would greatly appreciate some feedback on...

Susanne

Hi Suzie Q ;)

Pretty new myself here, but I can at least answer one of your questions.

1. I have 2,000 capital and plan to contribute 150 each month. Although I am not anywhere near ready to do live trading, I am wondering if this is enough capital to begin trading.

1. This depends on what you intend to trade. I think that spot forex is your best bet, as can trade it with the only commission being the spread at some brokers. High commissions will kill your daytrading with a small account, so I'd suggest looking for a good broker offering that. I'm thinking about using Oanda myself. They let you demo test their platforms as long as you want, so they're great for that if nothing else.

Hope that helps a bit!

Hello traders . I'm a short term trader in India . I'm interested in learning more about the Hang Seng regarding the current hot stocks , the level of volatility . I'm actually a student of economics , having worked with a stockbroker for the last year and a half . I'm experienced in equities n index options trading based on technical analysis . I wish to gather the following information :

1)Which are the current hot stocks in the HSI regardless of capitalisation size ?

2)Which are the stocks preferred by most FIIs n domestic/retail investors ?

In return , I could enlighten your lot with information on the Indian financial markets :)

I would think 2000 is awful thin of a margin for futures. You could probably use some of the Mini contracts, but you won't make much money.

I have recently picked up a trading course that recommends you have at least 3 times the needed margin to controll a contract.

With a small account, you have to be really good, and have the ability win like 80% of the time. Those first dozen trades, especially, you have to win them all. No losses....which is almost impossible for a professional, let alone a beginner.

Hi everyone! Just following protocol and introducing myself.

A little history:

2 years ago I was in a pretty bad car crash. Subsequently, I couldn't work at my old job (depot level aviation electrician) and I lost my job. After close to a year of physical therapy, surguries, ad naseum, I started to look to see what I could possibly do. I went to school and ran into some great people in my economics class. They were traders-stock market though-and that got me hooked in.

I got demo accounts with quite a few of the reputable firms, and felt I had it down. So I went live trading stocks, and promptly blew up a 50K account to 25K.

About 9 months ago, a online friend suggested that I might look at futures. So I did. Demo'd several brokers and funded a account with the same as my friend. Things were (are) going fairly well, and I had managed to get close to 30K in the account. And then something happened...I don't know what...but something happened. Nothing worked anymore. The setups I had been working with seemed to fail overnight. And now I am just below the 25K I started with and, quite frankly, scared to death. So for the past month I have been "simming" and still failing. And it all started just before the last contract rollover.

Oh, and in case you are wondering, this money I am working with is from a contract buy out. The lawsuit over the car accident is still in process.

Anyway, I am hoping that by coming here I can see what others in the same community are doing and how they are doing, and maybe even make a few friends along the way!

Profitable trading to you all!

thomas.

Hello, traders. Nice lab you got here.

I'm James and though I've been a student of economics and the political sciences for years, my first love was always the military. I spent 8 years in the USMC, for which I received some cool scars and a VA disability pension, courtesy of an incendiary IED. I now intend to use some of that money to develop a nice portfolio to leave to my baby sisters in a couple of decades and maybe make a little profit for myself as well in the process.

Now, I've been watching the markets, particularly equities, for a couple of years now and saving everything I could for my opening buy-in. I've also been studying market history as it correlates to economic theory intently and using trade simulators, and I think I've got a decent feel for the equities market and the indices. However, that's a far cry from actually jumping in and doing well. For all I know I'm a complete idiot with a confirmation bias. Also, I'm not sure which online brokerage to use, though I am in the process of rectifying that problem.

So here's me, here to listen, here to learn, and probably ask a lot of dumb questions to make sure I don't mess up my little endeavor. Apologies in advance.

Thanks for the opportunity to join your community,

-James

Hi C4Warrior, welcome to the forum. I'm still very new to trading too, but have found this site a treasure trove of ideas and information. Don't worry about asking questions, all the guys here are very helpful - I've asked plenty of dumb questions in the last few months.

One thread in particular I've found useful is

http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/trading-markets/6151-reading-charts-real-time.html

It's quite massive but I recommend reading it from start to finish - the thread creator has posted an amazing amount of really useful reading and chart analysis.

Hi, I've been watching DGHG (Diversified Global Holdings Group) for a while, looks like it could be performer potential, so I'm pretty much about to buy. But who else has been watching? How many of you have experience with DGHG shares?

Hi There,

First time here. I am trying to learn scalping and day trade. Started about a few months back and find that I am not doing so well. Anyway I hope that I can improve with the trial and errors (hope not too costly eventually) and later take up trading full time.

That would depend if I can master the trade well. Hope so.. :missy::doh::crap::angry:

Hello Thomas:)

Terribly sorry about the accident, mate. I hope it's not too painful these days, but it sounds like you're not letting it keep you down.

I'm James and I'm a newbie as well so I don't have any advice to offer other than to say that there is a lot of good info on models here. That said, my approach to equities is working pretty well so far (only been at it live a few days now) but if I find out that my approach is consistently good I'll pass it along for your review.

Anyhow, (assuming the other guy deserves it) I hope your suit goes well and nets you the compensation you deserve. If it doesn't, I hope your investing efforts will earn back your legal fees and more for years to come.

I wish you good luck and even better attacks of prudence,

- James

Hi AN,

I dont think you will get much response about a specific stock on this forum.

The members are more concerned about actual trading techniques, like market profile and astrology (same thing)

What you have to do is post 5 reasons why you want to buy DGHG

Like if you trade with fundamentals

the p.e

the peg

the dividend

the market potential

etc

If you trade on techncals

the trend

the candle

the moving average

the macd

etc

And if you trade on price

the inside bar

the reversal bar

the small bar

the exhaustion bar

etc

And maybe post a chart..

And lets see what happens

And if you cant find 5 reasons, have a look at a banking stock.

Kind regards

bobc

Hello everyone, my name is Fred. I'm new to trading and also to this forum. I've been spending some time on some other forums but I thought I would check this one out. It looks like there are a lot of quality people/posts here so I'm excited to see what I can learn. Happy trading!

Hello to all the new guys! It's great to see more and more people joining up. I'm sure the hope is you can learn something, help others or simply socialise. Whatever your reason, the key is to PARTICIPATE! That means posting questions/comments/theories/observations, making friends, using the "thanks/like" buttons and generally being more than just a passive observer. The more of you who do this, the better and better TradersLab will get!

Good luck and see you in the forums!

Hi all,

I am Niro, and my trading experience was choppy and unstable for the last 8 years.

During these years I have tried and traded stocks and futures. I have tried many methods and made a lot of mistakes until I have come to terms with one trading method and especially with myself.

I trade only grains futures, wheat to be exact, and I use 2 min clean charts.

My main practice is pullback & breakouts, and I am doing ok but I feel that I am only at the beginning of my journey.

Hi, nice to meet you all.

Have been demo trading for about 12 months now and have decided to go live. I chose Dukascopy originally but wasn't willing to pay £185.00 an hour for a public notary on a small account. So have opened an ECN account with MBTrading. I haven't made a trade yet as can't decide whether to use MT4 or MTB's proprietary system, desktop pro, any advice here gladly taken.

I thought ECN Brokers worked on commission but they also have a spread too. So am I right in believing they charge both a commission and a spread.

Look forward to reading your messages folks to see where you went wrong and where you went right, hopefully, with your advice I can get to the latter stage without losing to much on the way:confused:.

185 quid for a public notary??? Where are you getting this quote from?

I think I went to local Government district office here in my home country and paid a tenner or something like that for it.

Stay away from trading on the mt4 charts (mbt or other). I've experienced and heard a lot of negatives.

    • IMHO, the best feature of the Double Seven entry strategy is that buys and does not sell in equity-based markets. Large scale selling short in the primary stock markets requires a financed loan of shares from a broker, so it's less common than buying. Therefore, selling in a stock-tracking market generally isn't profitable--even where derivative instruments provide cheaper access to selling.
    • Another chart type... Footprint.
    • I would forget about tinkering with lot sizes in the short-term. I only increase my lot size when it's justified by my growing capital (closed profit). Adjusting lot size on the fly would imply that I somehow know the specific probability of each individual trade succeeding--which I don't. So, I focus on the overall statistical performance of my strategy over every 6 months. This doesn't require anything clever. As an example, choose a chart structure (15 minute, 1 hour, Renko, range bar, etc.) where price swings are identifiable to your eye. Load a MACD oscillator onto the chart. Note that there are two MACD's floating around online. The "old" MACD uses a weighted EMA in its calculations while the "new" MACD uses a regular MACD in its calculations. If you're using the old one, focus on the main line crossing the signal line and ignore the zero level. If you're using the new one, focus on the main line crossing the zero level and ignore the signal line. These are your entries. Your dynamic exit target is the opposite crossover of whichever MACD lines you're using. Now for the most challenging part... stopouts. You need to determine the number of pips/points/ticks at which price traveled against your entry and did not return in favor of your entry for all trades. These stopout statistics can be collected with pen and paper, which I have arduously done in the past. This is much easier if you can code, backtest, and auto-optimize the stop level. The idea is that your dynamic takeprofit is theoretically infinite, and your stop is fixed at a level that is statistically favorable to you. Although this isn't really "money managment," it certainly manages your money.
