Writer Doing Story on Late Night Trading

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Charles Passy and I'm a writer with the Wall Street Journal. I'm doing a piece on late-night Forex trading -- who does it and why? (And how much caffeine do they need?). It's mostly a lighthearted piece, but I definitely want to explore this unique side of the Forex world.

I'm looking for traders based in American time zones to interview. If you would be interested, please email me at email deleted by Moderator. PM if you want.

Thanks in advance!

I sense that you may be zeroing in on Forex for lack of understanding that there are many other "late night" markets that US traders tackle. In particular, I trade Hong Kong and European (German) index futures as well as commodity futures (gold, oil).

The difference there is you are searching for a market to trade at a certain time of day, vs FX which requires interaction with the London session to get the most out of the moves each day.

I found a simple solution to the insanely early mornings in the US - I moved to Asia

Did anyone get some feedback about this, or was it just a fishing trip for some easy email addresses from the gullible?

I was wondering how anyone trading in "American time zones" could come under the class of "late night forex traders!!!

Now if you were to write "non-American time zones" I would understand the caffeine stunt. Here in Oz, the US markets do not open until around 11.30pm, and the lively activity continues for about 5 hours to 4am or so - a few hours before the Asian markets open!

Did I miss something here, or did this guy really think that Americans stay up late swigging coffee and trading the slugging Asian session?

I'm set-up on the East coast of the USA, and trade the currency futures during the German/London opens. I don't "stay up," I "get up" at 1am est and boot up around 1:30am est. I'm usually finished by 4am but "my" session runs til 6am. As far as caffeine, I make a 1/2 pot. that gives me 2 lattes and 2 cups of sporty black :-)

Furthermore, I agree, it was, "a fishing trip for some easy email addresses from the gullible."

Charles Passy is a bona fide WSJ journalist, and the e-mail address he gave is @dowjones.com.

I doubt he was simply looking for email addresses from the gullible, though that is likely all he ended up receiving.

Best Wishes,

Thales
