Trader's Expo - Las Vegas

Recommended Posts

This afternoon I went to Caesars Palace on the Strip to attend the Trader's Expo.

What a bust. I saw absolutely nothing that is not already either discussed or advertised here. The whole thing reeked of tired - Exhibitors tired of ptiching, attendees tired of getting screwed and absolutely nothing new.

If you are planning a trip here for this show, IMHO, either cancel or come but don't bother with the expo.

I don't think it's nearly as bad as you describe. This show is "ok" compared to the one they had with the forex expo.

The exhibitors you won't learn all that much though sometimes it's nice to be able to chat -- I've talked to some folks at Ninja there before and Tradestation. I don't bother much with any signal people that spring up.

However, I will agree that in recent years there has been a decline since so much has been replaced by the internet. It used to be you had to attend those shows for the seminars but now those are held all the time online which is much more convenient.

And, it's a great excuse to go to Vegas! :)

Could not agree more.

For a couple of Vegas tips

For great tapas (the best: crispy duck roll, sutffed dates, lamb skewers), good sangria, good drinking and a bit of action sometimes >> FireFly on Paradise North of Flamingo in the same little strip as a "Ruths Chris" - they have a site w/menu - the stuffed dates are dates stuffed with a walnut, blue cheese, wrapped in bacon and w/a great sauce and crispy crusted french bread

For great TexMex/Cuban, no bar - just food/dump-downtown - I have been eating her food in various versions of this joint for 3 decades - good - Mamacita's on Fremont downtown.

cheers

Thanks for the Vegas food tips - I like some places a little more off the beaten path. I've eaten at some great places on the strip in the main hotels but it's sometimes nice to discover something a bit more hidden.

Though I'll take my Craftsteak any day -- not that I could actually afford it every day!

You can't get much more off the path than Mamacitas and FireFly is in a strip center.

So, if you don't like my picks, please, tell us about some "off the beaten path" vegas joints you favor, I showed you mine.......

When I say 'consumer' I mean "ma and pa trader" so the little guy, individual trader vs. trading professionals meaning brokers, industry folk, hedge fundies, etc....

Anyway, thanks for the tip -- have heard some good things about that one though have never attended - maybe the next one!

Trade Expo was flat as usual for the last few years (since 2007) since the 2008 market blowout. The one good addition to the show was MultiCharts who were showing their new DOM and multi-brokerage acct linking. I had some long discussions with the MC crew and they did say they would be willing to start some work to add Cumulative Delta (bid/ask differential) at least to the capability currently present in NT7 (with the GomCD). They also admitted it would take some time and considerable effort to ever get to the full Cumulative Delta capability we now have with Investor RT Pro (connected to ONLY DTN.IQ feed), which is 30 days lookback of historical bid/ask data.

I had a great 3 days in Vegas with my Cumulative Delta based traders gathering as we worked as a team on Trade Intensity, Order Book Delta, Delta Volume/Total Volume percentage ratios, "Accordion" dynamic position trading, etc. With several great programmers and many good traders it really was a very positive and productive gathering. Looking forward to a follow up Cumulative Delta based traders gathering in March in Austin, TX.

For "local" food I had my group try out one of my favorites in Vegas......."Paymon's" http://www.paymons.com/med_main.html

One place you's may want to try for food, off the beaten track in Las Vegas is Batista's :

Battista's Hole in the Wall - Italian Restaurant - Las Vegas - Home Especially if you like listening to an accordion player while you are eating :) erie

IMHO Battistas = dump, food ng, ripoff - for great Italian and old time Las Vegas service check out the Bootlegger way south on the stip, near Blue Diamond.

The Bootlegger Bistro Las Vegas | Authentic Italian Restaurant | Home

I will second that MMS, Craftsteak is one of my favorites, although I did not get to partake on this trip. I have attened too many Investor Expos to count and my goal each time is to come away with one new thing I can use in my trading. I was really impressed with MultiCharts charting platform and their new DOM.

Every year I attend TradersExpo in Las Vegas and New York cities. But this year I could not attend TradersExpo in Las Vegas as I was attending/presenting at the World of Trading 2010 conference in Frankfurt, Germany (from Nov. 16-20). They had same dates as TradersExpo (Nov. 18-20) at Las Vegas. I presented two seminars (100m) and four small presentations (20m) for TradeStation Group at WOT 2010. WOT was excellent. My trip and seminars were sponsored by TradeStation and TRADERS' media GmbH.

Here is the list of Speakers/Topics at WOT 2010:

http://www.wot-messe.de/seminare/index

I think WOT 2010 was well attended and well organized. Only three US companies (that I know of) were present at the WOT (TradeStation, FXCM and VectorVest) and about 40-50 companies from Europe participated. Most of the European companies at the show were FX related and few European banks/investment houses. I tried to attend few seminars but most of them are in German and I do not know any German. But from the looks of it some of them were well received.

My purpose of visiting the TradersExpos is to meet speakers, friends, acquaintances and network with traders/vendors. Expos do offer great education of new products (Hardware/Software), current trends and to keep me abreast of new market concepts and new trading enviroments. Of course cities like New York or Las Vegas offer great outlets for fun/relaxation and act as short and quick get-aways.

After my Germany trip, my wife and I went to Las Vegas on a small vacation (Nov. 23-28) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. On this trip we stayed at the Venetian Resort. Few restaurants we dined: Carnevino (Italian, Mario Batali's), Red 8 (Chinese), Zine (Asian), Wazuzu (Chinese) and Dos Camino (Tex-Mex). Few clubs visited: Lavo, XS and Tao. All restaurants/clubs in Venetian and Wynn resorts. We saw few shows: Le Reve at Wynn, Criss Angels' Believe at Luxor and Zumanity (Cirque du Soleil) at NewYork NewYork. We also took a half a day trip to the Hoover Dam. My favorite restaurant on this trip: Red 8 and favorite Show: Believe. We did NYNY's roller coaster ride and my wife went to Stratosphere's Big Shot ride (vertical drop). The best part of the Vegas trip: We gambled very little and enjoyed the relaxation/shows/food.

Regards,

Suri

    • Date: 3rd April 2025.   Gold Prices Pull Back After Record High as Traders Eye Trump’s Tariffs.   Key Takeaways:   Gold prices retreated after hitting a record high of $3,167.57 per ounce due to profit-taking. President Trump announced a 10% baseline tariff on all US imports, escalating trade tensions. Gold remains exempt from reciprocal tariffs, reinforcing its safe-haven appeal. Investors await US non-farm payroll data for further market direction. Fed rate cut bets and weaker US Treasury yields underpin gold’s bullish outlook. Gold Prices Retreat from Record Highs Amid Profit-Taking Gold prices saw a pullback on Thursday as traders opted to take profits following a historic surge. Spot gold declined 0.4% to $3,122.10 per ounce as of 0710 GMT, retreating from its fresh all-time high of $3,167.57. Meanwhile, US gold futures slipped 0.7% to $3,145.00 per ounce, reflecting broader market uncertainty over economic and geopolitical developments.   The recent rally was largely fueled by concerns over escalating trade tensions after President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping new import tariffs. The 10% baseline tariff on all goods entering the US further deepened the global trade conflict, intensifying investor demand for safe-haven assets like gold. However, as traders locked in gains from the surge, prices saw a modest retracement.   Trump’s Tariffs and Their Market Implications On Wednesday, Trump introduced a sweeping tariff policy imposing a 10% baseline duty on all imports, with significantly higher tariffs on select nations. While this move was aimed at bolstering domestic manufacturing, it sent shockwaves across global markets, fueling inflation concerns and heightening trade war fears.   Gold’s Role Amid Trade War Escalations Despite the widespread tariff measures, the White House clarified that reciprocal tariffs do not apply to gold, energy, and ‘certain minerals that are not available in the US’. This exemption suggests that central banks and institutional investors may continue favouring gold as a hedge against economic instability. One of the key factors supporting gold is the slowdown that these tariffs could cause in the US economy, which raises the likelihood of future Federal Reserve rate cuts. Gold is currently in a pure momentum trade. Market participants are on the sidelines and until we see a significant shakeout, this momentum could persist.   Impact on the US Dollar and Bond Yields Gold prices typically move inversely to the US dollar, and the latest developments have pushed the dollar to its weakest level since October 2024. Market participants are increasingly pricing in the possibility of a Fed rate cut, as the tariffs could weigh on economic growth.   Additionally, US Treasury yields have plummeted, reflecting growing recession fears. Lower bond yields reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold, making it a more attractive investment.         Technical Analysis: Key Levels to Watch Gold’s recent rally has pushed it into overbought territory, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) above 70. This indicates a potential short-term pullback before the uptrend resumes. The immediate support level lies at $3,115, aligning with the Asian session low. A further decline could bring gold towards the $3,100 psychological level, which has previously acted as a strong support zone. Below this, the $3,076–$3,057 region represents a critical weekly support range where buyers may re-enter the market. In the event of a more significant correction, $3,000 stands as a major psychological floor.   On the upside, gold faces immediate resistance at $3,149. A break above this level could signal renewed bullish momentum, potentially leading to a retest of the record high at $3,167. If bullish momentum persists, the next target is the $3,200 psychological barrier, which could pave the way for further gains. Despite the recent pullback, the broader trend remains bullish, with dips likely to be viewed as buying opportunities.   Looking Ahead: Non-Farm Payrolls and Fed Policy Traders are closely monitoring Friday’s US non-farm payrolls (NFP) report, which could provide critical insights into the Federal Reserve’s next policy moves. A weaker-than-expected jobs report may strengthen expectations for an interest rate cut, further boosting gold prices.   Other key economic data releases, such as jobless claims and the ISM Services PMI, may also impact market sentiment in the short term. However, with rising geopolitical uncertainties, trade tensions, and a weakening US dollar, gold’s safe-haven appeal remains strong.   Conclusion: While short-term profit-taking may trigger minor corrections, gold’s long-term outlook remains bullish. As global trade tensions mount and the Federal Reserve leans toward a more accommodative stance, gold could see further gains in the months ahead.   Always trade with strict risk management.
