Help with MetaTrader4 - Forex

Recommended Posts

I've just switched my account to a new broker that uses MetaTrader4. Like the broker, hate the trading platform, but, hey, it's good to make changes in life, right?

Because I'm such a newbie to MT4, please be gentle. I need to find a way to "Close all buys" and "Close all sells". Ideally, l'd also like to find a way to "Close all EUR/USD buys" and "Close all EUR/USD sells" (or whichever currency I'm trading at the time), and a "Close all open positions". I know that there are EA's and/or scripts out there that do this, but I don't have a clue about how to install them on MT4 -- I told you I was a newbie to MT4.

I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks to any kind and generous traders out there who are willing to step me through this.

I took my problems with MT4 to the guys in my trading group and found that many of us were struggling with the same issues. Two of the fellows programmed a tool that makes it easy to day trade. You can learn about it at http://www.4xgoldkeys.com/results.php. It's called 1ClickFX and it's free. When you register for it, you'll be signing up for an email list as well, but it's well worth it if you day trade with MT4. Just wanted to share what works for me.

I believe IBFX have an EA (expert advisor) that will close all open positions. Another one trails stops (not needed in MT5 perhaps?) Not sure if you need a demo account with them to get to download it. While I quite like the charts in MT4 the order entry & management stuff is errr *cough* shall we say rudimentary.

BlowFish, thanks for your suggestion. What you say about MT4 is so very true and exactly what was driving me crazy when I moved over to their trading platform.

I got the wrong link in the post above. Here is the correct link for 1ClickFX: https://www.4xgoldkeys.com/1ClickFX.php

Not to highjack your thread, but after trying several brokers' platforms, I've yet to stumble upon any that combine robust operation and useful features.

The only platform that both works consistently AND provides lots of useful features AND good charting (IMHO) is NinjaTrader -- and no, I'm not a shill for them. But they're just a platform, relying on someone else's data feed, spreads, and back office.

Anyone out there have a combination of broker / platform that works reliably (as in, doesn't crash if internet is disconnected briefly) and can put on a trade with pre-programmed lot size, and with OCO stop and profit target in under 4 mouse clicks and no typing?

Thanks in advance.

I find MT4 pretty clunky too. How about a TradeStation brokerage account? You can place one click orders on the Matrix (ie a trade ladder) with one of a range of OCOs attached (e.g. stop and two targets). Order size comes out at what you preset in the Matrix trade bar next to it If you lose your connection it takes up where it left off very quickly on return of signal. The charting is excellent, with about the best multi screen support I've seen, and the current version seems pretty robust. Their spot FX spreads widen a bit at news times , but not so much as some. It also has a good permanent (not time limited) simulated trading system. Against that, althopugh the Matrix has good drag-and-drop order moving, the no-choice 5 decimal place pricing on spot FX can makes that hard to use in fast trading. The account application form is a monster, but I think that's all about you giving them the answers they want to hear so you can't sue them if you lose money. Support tends to be knowledgeable if not particularly fast responding. TS can be expensive for charting only, but if you have a brokerage account with (I think) $5K in it, it's $99/month with free live FX data - of course, if you trade the FX futures you have to pay the exchange data fees on top of that.

Is it correct that MT4 fires your stops and target orders from your platform (rather than your broker's server), so that if your PC goes down you lose the orders?
