Bernanke Speaks

Recommended Posts

The most well-known hacker group, Anonymous, uploaded a video message to youtube yesterday calling for Fed Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to resign, among other things. It's embedded below.

The video begins with Bernanke saying he is 100% confident of his ability to control the income disparity in the U.S. -- the largest of any industrialized country in the world -- on 60 Minutes.

Then it says:

"Democrats have failed us, Republicans have failed us... It is time for us to stand up for ourselves... We must fight back against the organized criminal class... We must launch "operation Empire State rebellion. The operation will commence on June 14th...Operation Empire State Rebellion Engaged."

From Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin … "Thank God, or unfortunately, we do not print a reserve currency, but what are they doing? They are behaving like hooligans, switching on the printing press and tossing them around the whole world, forgetting their main obligations."

When Putin criticizes how you're managing your country's finances, you've got a problem…

MOODY'S: USA MAY LOSE TOP CREDIT RATING

U.S. may lose top credit rating soon - Moody's - Business - Stocks & economy - msnbc.com

The United States may lose its top-notch credit rating in the next few weeks if lawmakers fail to increase the country's debt ceiling, forcing the government to miss debt payments, Moody's Investors Service warned Wednesday.

"The review of the U.S. government's bond rating is prompted by the possibility that the debt limit will not be raised in time to prevent a missed payment of interest or principal on outstanding bonds and notes," Moody's said in a statement. "As such, there is a small but rising risk of a short-lived default."

scary thoughts.

what might be next?

higher interest rate?

higher taxes?

higher unemployment?

higher stock market !!!

Plan for euphoric jubilation, plan for a mediocre statement, plan for extreme disappointment. Either way, my advice is don't try to read what Bernanke says, read how the market reacts to what he says! (and remember if we move either way drastically, there could be significant retracement before continuation)

In fact, the record is stunningly clear that any time the Bernanke offers an economic prediction, you should rush out and bet that exactly the opposite will come true - it's a sure-fire way to make a killing in the markets.
