Interesting tight stop setup for a large potential reward vs. risk

Are you targeting the 144444 area or going for a smaller swing?

We have a 28 tick stop loss and with no plan for tightening it until we get +200, which puts price below Friday's 1.4839 low. After that we will trail, and we would like to see a retest of the 1.4398 low, which would put us at about +650 ticks.

Time will tell ...

Best Wishes,

Thales

Anyways...to begin...potential long on the UJ...

Re-entered on the new low...trailed my stop tight...managed to more than make up for the previous trade's loss (albeit not by much).

Although it would appear by this Ninja chart that PT2 filled, it did not with FXCM...both halves were actually taken out at PT1. (Once price hit PT2 on the Ninja chart, I moved my stop with FXCM to PT1.)

Potential EJ long...

I probably should have passed on this trade considering the lack of impulsiveness...I was probably reaching a bit...

I have to leave now and I just pulled it for a small loss. I may make a rule for myself when I have to leave early that I can't open any new trades the hour before I know I have to leave...so that I have that hour to manage any open trades I may have. We'll see.

No Tokyo for me tonight...I'll be back for NY tomorrow...

We were stopped out on the first go around, and since my daughter is home from school today, we've re-entered short at a level 40 ticks above last night's entry, and we will add at 1.5045 ...

Hi Folks,

Just a reminder that tday is the last day to get your guess in for the quarterly guess the close contest - you can post your entry here:

http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/f2/round-two-predict-market-close-contest-9050.html

Remember, it doesn't cost you anything to play, and I can attest to the fact that Mad Market Scientist and TL does indeed pay out on the prizes. First prize is a $250 Amazon.com gift card - surely there is a trading book you've been thinking of buying but you don't want to waste your own money on what may turn out to be another iece of garbage - well, here's your chance to have TL buy it for you. Or perhaps there is some game, gadget, or gizmo you've been wanting to try. $250 will more than buy you a Kindle, and it is almost halfway to to an iPad. So get those entries in, folks!

Best Wishes,

Thales

Currently short the EU...

Got PT1 on the first half, got stopped for a small profit on the second.

I'm frustrated that I missed this UJ long I've attached...I actually had an order in but canceled it solely because I was already in a trade (the EU short). I need to come up with a rule for what to do in situations when I have more than one opportunity...this time I just thought, I don't know what to do! I guess I'll just pass on it!

Orders canceled...no trades tonight...

I actually changed my mind at the last second before I shut down and put on the UJ short...but took BE on it...

I left it overnight and got on this morning at around 6AM Eastern Time to see that price had reached my BE point and retraced...I immediately moved my stop to BE and was taken out shortly after...

I got to it just in time! Lucky me. Actually, price had already risen above my entry when I got on, but had fallen just back below...just for enough time to let me move my stop before resuming its climb. :)

No NY today...I'll be back this evening...

    • Date: 19th February 2025.   Is the DAX Overbought After Rising For 7 Weeks Straight?   The DAX rose by 20% in 2024, however, in 2025 so far the DAX has risen more than 15% in only 50 days. The DAX has risen for seven straight weeks, driven by rate cuts and strong earnings reports. Can the DAX maintain momentum or is the price overbought? DAX 40 - What’s Driving the Bullish Trend? Three factors are driving the price of the DAX higher. The first is the European Central Bank which has cut for 2 consecutive months and is likely to adjust a further 0.75% in 2025. The lower interest rates and expectations of further cuts are known to support the DAX due to higher consumer demand.     The second factor driving prices higher are the positive earnings data. SAP SE is the most influential stock and has risen by 18% so far this year. SAP’s latest quarterly earnings report saw the company beat revenue expectations by 2.60% and earnings by 1.40%. The second most influential stock for the DAX is Siemens AG which has risen almost 20% in 2025 so far. All of the seven most influential stocks have risen in value this year so far and only 17% of the whole DAX have declined this year so far. However, traders should note that not all companies within the DAX have made public their quarterly earnings reports. The third factor is the expectation that the Ukraine-Russia conflict will end or reach a ceasefire in the first half of the year. Traders should note that an end to the conflict is more crucial for European indices in comparison to Asian or US indices. This is due to the nature of Europe and European geopolitics. Is the German DAX Overbought? When analyzing the price movement the index is trading in the overbought zone on most oscillators and on most timeframes. However, price action and previous impulse waves indicate the price will not be overbought unless the price increases above 23,250EUR. However, the intrinsic value of the DAX will also depend on US tariffs. If Germany is able to avoid harsh US tariffs, German stocks may continue to increase higher as sentiment improves. However, harsh tariffs are likely to apply downward pressure on the index and increase the likelihood of being overbought in the short-to-medium term. If the price indeed declines, traders may first target the support level at $22,437.58, which will likely fall in line with the 75-period Moving Average. The main bullish breakout point is at the 22,724.30 mark. Tariffs on Foreign Cars A key risk for the DAX as mentioned above is US tariffs, particularly on cars. The DAX index includes Mercedes-Benz, Porsche AG, BMW, and Volkswagen. Total new cars sales in the US from these 4 companies make up almost 10% of the overall sales.     Donald Trump remained defiant despite warnings that his proposed trade war could disrupt the US economy, stating that his administration might impose tariffs of approximately 25% on foreign cars within weeks. He also announced that semiconductor chips and pharmaceuticals would soon face higher tariffs, speaking at a news conference on Tuesday. Key Takeaway Points: The DAX has surged over 15% in 2025, driven by ECB rate cuts, strong earnings, and optimism over the Ukraine conflict. SAP SE and Siemens AG are the top-performing stocks and 83% of the DAX has witnessed gains. However, some earnings reports are still pending. Despite trading in overbought territory, the index may continue rising unless it faces harsh US tariffs. Potential US tariffs on foreign cars pose a key risk, impacting major DAX-listed car makers. This includes Mercedes-Benz, Porsche AG, BMW, and Volkswagen. Always trade with strict risk management.
