:) The problem with trading is that we as humans have a special relationship with money.

That is why we are reluctant to pay to study how to make it in trading and that is there are so many people who have no clue who try to teach others how to trade.

I doubt thta this will change but fortunately there are successful people around who are willing to share their wisdom and experience.

One just has to spend time and find those people and read their posts and practice, practice and practice more.

I am not where I want to be (prefectionist, you know :) ) but I am very close.

I like to call trading THE NEXT NUT THAT I HAVE TO CRACK.

Take care

Gabe

Gabe, thanks very much for sharing your journey and the lessons you learnt. It's very kind of you to save us newbies the pain (and money!) of learning the hard way. Pleased to hear you've cracked it and are looking to perfect it - congratulations! And assuring to know that if we apply ourselves, we may one day crack it too :)

There's much we're learning from you, brownsfan, chris, thales (just to name a few). Thanks to you chaps for being generous with your time and tips. I see you're on Thales's thread "reading charts in real time" and will be following both this thread and that with avid interest.

Kicking myself furiously for not buying the Dec brent after the Nov expired :crap: How long before i learn not to be a twit??

HB thanks but I would not put myself in the group you mentioned (brownsfan, chris, thales ) not yet anyway but probably in 3-6 months.

I cannot take out of my head the fact that Thales' doughter learned to trade in 1 month.

It seemed that all the garbage that is out there about trading is clouding our judgement and messes up our head.

I notice now that the bad trading habits are so deeply engrained in my brain that it seems that the way to succeed is not so much to learn the right way to trade but to remove the wrong way.

It is almost like fixing a botched job in any field. It is easier and sometimes cheaper to start from scratch.

Unfortunately we cannot erase what we have learned before.

Nice sell off this morning, caught the middle of it.

After this I missed getting filled on two beautiful trades, could have been a record day but I'll take what I can get.

I cannot take out of my head the fact that Thales' daughter learned to trade in 1 month.

The down side for me is that every night when we sit down to dinner she asks me "So, you shorted the ES at 1018 - how's that working out for you?"

Nine year olds!

Best Wishes,

Thales

10-20-09: +$100.00

Really poor exit on this trade. Not too happy with how that one turned out.

Note - I've been tracking the Russell 2000 mini (traded on ICE) and I might be doing more index trades there vs. NQ/ES. I'll explain more in a post later, but just a little update for anyone following along.

Brownsfan, i've been watching the Russell 2000 mini too but the intraday range has been tight? Won't it be tricky getting in and out, when the spread is 0.5 (at least, on IG)?

Chris, another good day for you! :)

Grey - how often do you trade? Only see the occasional blotter so just wondering what your trading style is.

Are you sure you are watching the Russell 2000 mini?

To compare:

Oct 20 high to low

Russell 2000 mini: 16.6 pts = $1660

ES: 17 pts = $850

NQ: 30 pts = $600

So on Oct 20th, the BIGGEST range was found on the Russell due to a tick there is $10 and a point there is $100.

Not sure how you are getting a .5 spread... here's a dom snapshot from 12:10pm EST:

I trade every day ( my code does it automatically ),, but most days I have people who come to my house for watching and trading chat,, Those days then i wont post any thing as we are busy ,,, if you are living in UK you welcome to come here as this is a lonely business and having guys here is awesome ,,

Any way ,, I have no one here to day and trading alone,,, I am not a coach or a seller of any software or any thing what so ever so when people come here they just come here for trading chat and that is all,,, Of course live trading as well ,,

My code just went long the market as seen and i will post the p/l as soon as the positions are closed

I am amazed with the high level of some of traders here I met LOTE_TREE few days ago from this site and also T2w and was so pleased to see how advanced our trader have become in such a short period of time ,, awesome ,,, NO MORE RSI traders hehehe

As I am writing this my code went into lossssssssssss,,,,,

10-21-09: $420.00

What a day all over the place. I really missed some nice setups and that p/l is not where it should be.

Note - was long on oil but had to flatten into inventory... bad choice in hindsight. lol

The code is up as I am writing this with around $400 , OXY met its first target( took pprofit ) hence the postion size was reduced,,

The time and point of entry is shown on the attached ... I will post the complete blotter for all trades later ...I would not be able to basket trade manually and manage them if I was not automated,,, Risk diversification is my first concern in intra day trading hence I am TRADING EQUITIES than futures as the correlation between R/R in futures and INDU is 1 where as by diversifying the risk across a broad spectrum of stocks one can reduce risk hugley resulting in an obvious edge ,,, A futures trader does not have this edge and never will have ,,

with much respect I did not express an opinion what I worte above is a fact,, If you are not into Formal risk analysis then I think it is best not to argue about it because it is a lengthy subject,,,

Really strange day. Despite catching 5 points on that drop near the end of day,I still finished WAY down on the ES. Just couldn't trade it today. 5 losers in a row. Didn't feel nice! Would have been a bloodbath if It hadn't have been for the 5points I caught at the EOD. Inversely, however, my trading on the 6b and Zn went well. Still, a bad day overall for me:

hope you lot did better.

Note for Brownsfan: Grey1 thinks that the only futures contracts are for stock indexes.

Because of this he thinks that he has a fact.

If one was to consider that there are a lot of contracts that are not for collections of stocks then one might come upon a new fact. And one might even learn something.

On the other hand: divergent opinions are what make markets so interesting. Imagine the horrifying situation if we all traded the same facts? :)
