Software to record my trading screen???

Recommended Posts

Free is always good :)

Camtasia is what most people I know use, and what I use. I like that I can annotate on the screen while I'm recording. If you can find something that can do that for free, then all the better.

Camtasia, an older version 3 is available for free below. It is not pirated, just their way of getting you to try it. It allows for video and audio recording and good compression.

To register for a key:

http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/pcpls.asp

To download:

http://download.techsmith.com/camtasiastudio/enu/312/camtasiaf.exe

You may also want to consider something like Ninjatrader, which is free for charting, simulation and playback of recorded data.

"This offer is no longer available"

This is what they say on the key link. I was going to give the same info but saw that the offer is now off the table. :(

I'll 2nd Camtasia as well. Good program!

You might be able to do it with SnagIt as well, which is less expensive than Camtasia.

Snagit is just screen capture utility. It's the best out there IMO but it doesn't capture video.

Apparently SnagIt does record video of your actions on the screen (see attachment). I have never used it for that purpose, so can't vouch for it, but for a free program it could be worth trying first?

I have the non-latest version of SnagIt, which is made available by its makers so that you can try it and if you like, upgrade to the paid version. Nice business model.

So SnagIt for free is available to download from here, the registration key is:

I hope this still works, of not let me know and can try to find alternative.

Son of a gun...never noticed that there in the year I've used the software.

It's very basic but for most it would probably suffice.

Cool stuff thanks. :)

I donot know whether this is the right place to post it. If not, moderators please remove this post.

There is a great free software to edit the still images. Just google paint.net. Download the programme and see whether it serves purpose. I have found it useful.

I'm a die-hard SnagIt user. I used to use paint and now I do so much on SnagIt it's not even funny for $49.95. You can easily screenshot, annotate the hell out of it, save if any format, do live screen recordings, etc. It's not just a basic screen capture. Version 9 just came out and it has a nice feel to it along w/ some much needed upgrades.

I use Snagit all day long. I use it to annote charts and review. I capture a screen shot of my charts or video a trade in real time. Then after writing notes all over the saved chart I then "Copy All" and then bring it over and paste to my EverNote.

If you are not familiar with EverNote I would encourage you to check it out. With EverNote I save pages, pdf's and anything I want from the web and categorize. Everything I deem worthy of review and further study is all in one place and organized. All I need to do is click on the Category and all my own notes or other writings from Snagit, TL etc. is right there for me in my EverNote.

Don't be cheap and buy Camtasia and /or Snagit. Both are excellent.

Be aware though that if you record live ticks and commentate you will need tons of ram and a big processor otherwise you get the speech lagging the screen.

Oh and Be prepared to watch yourself make a complete ***!!** of yourself - my best one was where I found myself shouting at the replay " No buy don't sell".

I've used CamStudio

http://camstudio.org/

For some time. It seems to work great. I also grabbed the "FM Screen Capture Codec" and it makes very small video files. Very nice. I've been using VirtualDub for playback sometimes if I need to find a specific frame because it makes it very quick to scroll through the frames.

Jing, a subset of Camtasia by TechSmith that is free and complimentary online storage.

http://www.jingproject.com/faq.asp

TechSmith is pleased to announce that Jing is an official product offering. Don’t worry, it’s still free. We are also including a complimentary Screencast.com account with 2 GB of storage and 2 GB of transfer bandwidth per month.

I just watched the overview video of SnagIt on the website and found it interesting that it says "Created with Camtasia Studio". I guess they don't dogfood their own software.

I use OneNote by Microsoft for screen clippings. It's like EverNote but for users who like to use folders and categories. Screen clippings are actually just a small feature and it has a lot of very cool features. For example, while it can't record videos of your screen, it can record videos from your webcam and audio from your microphone and it uses notes that you make during the recording as bookmarks.

SnagIt is the "low end" product (typically for screen shots, recently added video I think) Camtasia Studio is the full product--so, it's the same company, same dogfood.

Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for the clarification!
