  1. Hello. Does anyone have recommendations about a good investment for 10k for about 10 months? I'm interested in mostly low risk. But would also be interested to entertain some medium risk investments.
  2. Hello. I don't think they make AGP anymore. There may also be some issues with running multiple monitors from AGP and PCI. Some say it is best to have 2 PCI instead.
  3. Thanks Januson. It's so frustrating. I really don't know if I will be able to do it but it is nice to hear that people care.
  4. Hey Reaver. You might also want to check out Ultimate Bet. It lacks the flare as some of the other sites, like having avatars for the players. But it works well and it is fairly popular. There was a good point raised by aiki14. There may be teams of people working together. Even 2 teammates on a 6 player game can be a major threat. Or there could be one person who has created multiple identities through identity theft. But in the tourney games where you can win seats in the major tournaments I suspect it would be nearly impossible to get away with using multiple identities. There was a forum about using bots in online poker, seemed like lots of people were doing it and talking about it. I heard the poker sites have a program for catching cheaters, but I suspect people are able to get passed it. I'm not sure what it is but I guess it is a combination of IP addresses, which can be hidden, geographic location, and player patterns to see who is working together in a statistically significant way. But an identity thief might be able to create an army of identities which would make it difficult to catch patterns due to the high volume, especially if they moved from site to site to hide their impact.
  5. Millionaire Traders is pretty good book so far. I only read about 68 pages so far but it has been very fun and informative book. There is a review of it here at TL where I found out about it.
  6. Good point Reaver. I agree with that 100%.
  7. I'm also running vista on my laptop. It was slow at first but improved alot after removing some junk programs that came with it and also blocking some programs from starting up automatically. But for some reason when I type on my keyboard it doesnt recognize some of the letters. It's getting really annoying. I sent it back to Sony and they found no problem with it. But the problem is still there and I don't know what else to do. Also, one time the uninstall button in the Add/Remove Programs just dissapeared one day and I was not able to uninstall programs from there. Some of the program names n the Add/Remove list also disappeared. It got fixed when I restored my computer to a pervious restore point.
  8. Thanks Nick. 80's was a fun time for me too. I also liked Michael Jackson. These songs bring back lots of memories.
  9. Thanks Reaver. I'll look into it. Rgiht now I have lots of books that I'm reading: 1. Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom, Tharp 2. Mastering The Trade, John Carter 3. Millinaire Traders, Lien, Schlossberg 4. The Market Maker's Edge, Lukeman
  10. Thanks WHY? I'll look into it.
  11. Yeah Brownsfan. Thanks. I love that magazine. What would we do without you?
  12. Wow Walter. You cat is very cute. And clean.
  13. I used to play free roll tournaments at Ultimate Bet. I haven't played there for a while. I also played at Party Poker. I tried Poker Stars but their software was not as friendly. Mostly I lost money playing with real money.
  14. This trading chatroom is nice, and free. This is the only trading chatroom I have visited so not sure how it compares with other free chatrooms. I think it is an IRC chatroom, but you can reach it without installing IRC through you browser: 1. Go to: http://chat.othernet.org/ (you might need to install/enable Javascript and accept an out-of-date certificate warning. Results will vary depending on the OS and browser you're using.) 2. Once you're connected to othernet (this can take as long as a minute) type: /join #patterns Though I want to add that the chatroom shows your IP address for everyone to see when you log on. I don't know how much of a security vulnerability that might be, but you might want to use a proxy to log on anonymously. One free anonymous program I know is Torpark (http://www.download.com/Torpark/3000-2356_4-10586816.html). It is simple to use but can be slow.
  15. I listen to many kinds of music. Here is a link to my youtube player where I'm collecting some music. I'm trying to find some old school 80's and early 90's songs with good beat. http://abesmith.blogspot.com/
  16. Swing trading forum sounds good. I'm interested in swing trading too, especially stocks, or single stock futures, but don't know much about them. Still would be nice to have a portion of a portfolio invested in stocks over longer time frame. I'm not sure if I will be doing futures day trading as my primary activity, but for now it is where the calling is.
  17. Hey. Here is a tip for improving your performance. I did this a few days ago and it had a dramatic effect on my computer's performance. What I suggest is to disable the unnecessary startup programs that launch automatically every time you start you computer. You might think that software companies would not do anything to slow down you computer unnecessarily, but I don't think that is true. Many times after I install a new program it adds an unnecessary startup program that slows down startup and also slows down performance after startup. For example, my video card has an alternative video setting software that would startup automatically. But windows already has this and it is sufficient for me, so I disabled the video card setting software from starting up, but only after I researched to see if it would be safe to do so. Here is how I did it: 1. Go to start, run, and type in msconfig press enter. 2. Select the Startup tab. There you will see a list of startup items that have a check box next to them. Some of them are important, but many of them in my computer were not necessary. How do you know what is important and what is not. One way to check is to type in the name of the program found under the startup items column in Google. Then there should be several links about this startup program, what it is and whether it is vital. You may also find links to forum discussions about it from people who are doing the same thing. If you conclude that the program is not necessary then you can simply uncheck it from the startup items. It will require a restart for it to take effect. I'm attaching a screenshot of my startup items. You can see that only 5 items are checked out of the many potential startup items. 3. Another thing you can do if is to go to an expert computer site where there are people who might help you out with this. You give them a list of your startup items and they might tell you which ones to keep and which ones to remove. But I recommend you figure out how to do it yourself. Another thing you should do to keep your computer from getting bogged down with unnecessary processes is to be careful when installing new programs. First, you can do the custom install as opposed to typical install and uncheck unnecessary bundles from being installed. And afterwards you should check back with msconfig to make sure that there are no unnecessary startup programs initiated from the installation. I suggest to keep you computer with the minimum number of programs necessary.
  18. Darth has some great advice Brownsfan. I would only add that you probably should do some reasearch before building your system. There should be websites about this, and also there may be magazines at Barnes and Nobles that are specifically about building your own system. You might also want to check with a technical support forum, like MajorGeeks for example, and ask them what kind of hardware setup they recommend for your requirements. You might be able to use some of your old parts, like graphic cards, ram, and power supply. Just makes sure your power supply is high wattage to be able to handle multiple cards. Your motherboard's manual should also tell you what amount of power is recommended. Let us know how it progresses.
  19. It's very interesting Dr. Janice. Thanks for your expertise.
  20. Also, it helps not having too many programs running. I try to keep my computer to the bare minimum programs. I check the startup programs to keep unecessary programs from opening up on startup, like RealPlayer and other programs that are not necessary to be starting on startup. This might not have anything to do with your troubles, but just FYI.
  21. Hmm. I don't know. Sometimes after a while a computer gets bogged down with malware or other programs slowing down the computer. From time to time I reinstall my computer's operating system and often it fixes some issues, like slow computer. Otherwise it could be a hardware issue. That I do not know much about but there are sites online that might give good advice. MajorGeeks.com is one site.
  22. Hey Brownsfan. Could be hardware issue. One way to check is to reinstall your operating system. If the problem persists with different programs then it is most likely a hardware issue. Did you change anything recently with the hardware? I don't know if this is related at all but this morning when running OEC Demo I thought my computer was running slower than usual as well.
  23. This is a facinating subject doctor Janice. To me intuition is a factor in my trading decisions. I don't know the science behind it, and I don't solely rely on it. But I respect it. I heard there are cases of people whose photographic memories are so accurate that they have trouble recognizing the same people because of the minor changes in their appearance. Perhaps a task of the subconscious mind is to processes various quantitative signals, but in order to protect us from being overwhelmed by them like the example above, it gives us the results in a qualitative intuitive feeling. Perhaps another need for intution is the high amount of energy which is consumbed by quantitative task as opposed to qualitative tasks, energy which was not always so abundant in our species' evolution. Or perhaps humans are linked to other humans, animals, or to the universe in a collective subconscious and our intuition is a result of information gathered from this connection.
