Another option if you're willing to spend the money is to get a wireless internet card from Sprint or Verizon. If AT&T is in your area and has their newest networks up they maybe the fastest. But Sprint and Verizon have their EvDo networks pretty much everywhere and it's pretty fast. I used to sell them back in the day when I worked at Best Buy and they were a life saver for a lot of customers. Would I use one for my primary trading? No, but I would for a backup if I didn't have any other options. One more issue though is I'm not sure if those cards would work with a desktop. There is probably some hardware out there where you could use the card externally and plug it in but I'm not sure. Something to think about though. As far as routers go, you could try some of the new "N" ones. I remember they were just coming out as I left a little less than a year ago. I heard good things about them but I remember they were really expensive. But I think they were more for wireless as they had a longer more powerful range.

Do you recommend any microphones to use? After I get a mic I would love to take more videos and post them on the site. -
Tradestation: The good, the bad or the ugly?
james_gsx replied to timokrates's topic in Brokers and Data Feeds
I like TS because it's all in one and simple to use, you get great charting software and the ability to trade. I think the TS matrix is confusing and I've never been fond of it. But I do like the ability to create indicators and all of that. If you want just charts, from my experience eSignal is the way to go. Ideally I would love to use Infinity AT with eSignal since I tend to lean more towards scalping. But then again that comes down to what your definition of scalping is, and that's a whole other topic on it's own. But if you want good charts and plan on holding a position for longer than a "scalp" then I think TS is a good route to explore. You might want to check out OEC, I know a few people here use it and enjoy it. -
Traders Laboratory Feedback on Multimedia

Out of curiosity James, when you create the videos in real time how does it affect the performance of your trading platform? I would love to take some videos of live trades but I'm afraid they might slow down my computer too much. -
Looks good James, thanks for the video. It really helps clear up some things with MP.

[evening star] Doji or Evening star?

Now that my $90 target has been hit, we have a little hammer I will play this one with an ETF. -
It's looking pretty ugly out there guys. I went ahead and put together some monthly charts since I think we all know what's going on with the daily (high wave candles and old support become resistance there ya go done :o). First off I want to look at the actual Dow cash index. As you can see support from Feb 27 was broke this week and our next stop is 12,000. In my opinion there is too much force behind the selling and I don't see 12,000 being able to act as a major support level. I hope I am wrong for the sake of people who have a lot of money tied up in the markets through IRAs, 401ks, etc. But unfortunately the low 11,000 target is something I think we can all expect to see sometime this year. Next up is the ES monthly, as you can see 1400 was a pretty big support level. Our next stop is 1300, hopefully that will hold. I don't expect to see any of those targets within the next few months. Remember this is a monthly chart, so it takes time for these to develop. I do believe we're in a recession just by looking at the chart. I think we have an extraordinary opportunity here to make a lot of money. Unfortunately a lot of normal people (like our parents) will probably lose a lot of money. But that money has to go somewhere, might as well be our pockets :o

Any online poker players care to share (real money)?
james_gsx replied to brownsfan019's topic in General Discussion
I love poker too, but hardly any of my friends who live around me know how to play. I have an account on pokerstar but for now I just fake money. I have a friend who plays real money and he's pretty good at it. I'll see if I can get any good advice from him that I could share with you. -
I didn't know where to put this, so if any of the mods want to move it wherever it's more appropriate that's fine. http://boltar1.blogspot.com/ This guy used to visit a forum (you don't want to know and I'm embarrassed to share so don't ask) I go to and decided to post his blog for all to see. He started with $72,000 and a $170,000 loan (which I'm pretty sure was for or against his house however that works). His goal is to make $1 million before he's 36, he's 32 now. This is just a display of what happens when you don't have a plan and you trade from emotion. So for all the new members we have recently attracted, please learn a valuable lesson from this guy who is clearly on his way to blowing everything. I felt bad for him at first, but after he ignored everyones advice I am just counting the days before it blows up. Like my friend said, at the end of the day it's a dog eat dog world and someone has to lose for us to make money in this business.

Thanks James, I really like your view of MP and ticks. Thanks for the video, it encourages me to continue learning about MP and integrate it with my trading plan.

I've been scalping both recently, and honestly I find the ES a little easier since it seems to honor s/r better. But it really comes down to what works best for you and what you consider scalping. Everyone has their own views on the topic. But for the YM on scalping, I personally prefer a 243 VBC chart and a simple oscillator. Yet on the ES I use a 3 min and 15min. One more thing, after I've come to realize time and time again that I tend to scalp naturally I don't think it's the way to go. I've seen others such as HLM take A LOT more profit then I do when we enter the same time, simply because I am so conservative and I want the quick points whereas he is looking for the longer trade. So a trade I get +2.00 ES he is getting +4.00 or more, and that really adds up at the end of the day. The other drawback of scalping is your entry is absolutely crucial, bad fill and your scalp can bust. I know you didn't ask that, but I thought I would throw it in anyways.

James, you need these They are incredible, I have them and can't hear a thing but my music when I have them on.

I just plugged it in using the changes zdo posted, works great so far! Thanks!

Do you have a short bias because of the big range extension?

I hate the Red Wings... with a passion. With that said, I still think the Avs vs Red Wings games are the most fun to watch and be at. There is so much more energy at those games compared to a Broncos vs Raiders game. Not sure about a Yankees vs Red Sox game though. I've been told that the hatred is now for the Canucks because of the Bertuzzi incident, but IMO it's more of a hatred for Bertuzzi and not the Canucks. You can't blame an entire team years later for something one guy did. I'm sure that guy got a lot of lip from his teammates after his hit on Moore. Canucks and Avs games are still a blast to watch though But yes, they have great scouting. You also have to remember a lot of those players have been playing with eachother for a very long time. You can always tell by watching them that they know eachother very well. Their passing is incredible, they are very precise and it's rare to see them make a mistake.

Well I'm glad my threads could help. If you are ever available to get online during the day check out our chatroom. A few of us trade live and post our trades and results, it's very informative and can help the slow parts of the day move by a little faster. Oh, and you should check out our YM, ES, and NQ analysis thread, it might help you get in tune with the markets getting started out and offer some new introspective. Could help with your technical analysis too. Soultrader has a MP thread here that basically goes over the same thing that Brownsfan and I discuss but with a completely different perspective using Market Profile. Just goes to show that there are many ways to skin a cat, just pick what bests fit your personality and stick with that. Good luck.

First off - Ronin good trade! I think we'll get a little dead cat bounce here. Super light volume today and the ES is at a huge support level. I'm going to wait for a short signal to come before making a move... On the YM i have 12,800 outlined, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a move up to 13,000 before falling back down. I wish I had the Fib retracement lines plotted on this chart because I think that would give me a better clue, but oh well. Key levels to watch for tomorrow YM - 13,800 and 13,600 ES - 1400 and 1420 NQ - 1960 and 1900 Good trading.

Yeah, it has been a great season so far for the northwest. Unfortunately with Sakic and Smyth out I don't think the Avs will make it this year. We have some great new players that are new to the league, but unfortunately we lack that leadership that the older players like Smyth and Sakic bring to the team. Oh well, I can still watch Parker pick fights and beat up everyone :o

One other book I would recommend is Trading in the Zone. You'll find over your path that your pyschological mindset is more important than the setups. You will learn more about yourself becoming a trader than you have in your entire life - trust me on that one. All I can really say is don't give up, even when it seems you've lost all your self esteem and you won't make it. Thats when you know it's all uphill
-
It's interesting, I THOUGHT I had a well laid out trading plan. But the more real time experience I get, the more I find myself seeing better setups and ignoring the ones I put in my plan. My trading is getting better and more consistent, although I still find myself shooting from my hip and taking bad trades for no reason. When this happens I walk away for a while and get my mind off trading. Now the hard part is writing down the trades I see setup in real time and putting them on paper for my trading plan.
-
Well I did appreciate the times you were in there. It helped a lot with my understanding of candlestick analysis in real time situations.

First off, thanks to Soultrader for starting the Sports Talk. Who here follows the NHL? Personally it's my favorite sport to watch and I wish I played it when I was little (I played every sport but hockey). I love the teamwork and the fast pace action. My dad and I go to a Colorado Avalanche game at least 2-4 times a month. We have a 14 game package plus we buy tickets to other games quite regularly. We decided that next year we'll just buy season tickets. So who do you like, who do you follow? Any young guys you like that are just coming up?

Anyone here study history on their free time? Lately I've been really interested in Ancient Rome. No specific time, just the whole empire from it's creation to ultimate collapse. Does anyone recommend any good books/websites that I can check out? Thanks..

I really like the banking sector in general in here. I'm wondering if my target for $220 is a little far stretched, but I need to get a confirmation to buy first.
