Introduce Yourself Here - Don't Be Shy!!
LaReindeer replied to trading4life's topic in Beginners Forum
Hi ATrain, Welcome to the forum. The most important thing you are going to need right now is bucket loads of patience and time. It takes time to read and research and patience to get through it all. Try to break it down into smaller aspects and research them one at a time. Information overload happens easily. L- 2024 replies

Moron! Learning About Yourself Through Trading.
LaReindeer replied to TheNegotiator's topic in Trading Psychology
Part of the reason I got into trading was to learn more about myself. However I under estimated just how much work I had to do personally, to get my head in the right space to trade. Most expensive therapy ever  My entries and exits are ok now, as compared to a year ago. It is the over anaylizing that is stopping me from getting in, I know I am trying to make every trade a winner, but it is a battle of wills between me and myself. We are currently working on a new strategy to get more co-operation and less fighting. I won't have anything to report on that for 2 months. I have already fully accepted that I am crazy so having two of me at the table is...well normal. I agree the thought journal is super important. Especially when you go back and read entries from 1 or 2 years back, it's amazing how much the thought process changes, and a little scary too, in a good way. L- 9 replies

the only thing that is going to keep you from going for too large a gain is a good solid trading plan, that you have disciplined your self to follow. The greeks can't tell you anything about that. L

Hi Arvo, So I went and checked out the TradingJournalSpreadsheet.com looks like a really good program. I will do a little research this weekend on the pros and cons. At this point in time I do not have a huge amount of trades to record so filling in a trading record by hand is no problem. Thanks L
-
Arvo, I like the separate folders idea, I will probably make that an online version as I have to be away a lot. Every thing I do must be transportable. I like that MyFxBook, do you know of anything like that for stocks? I use screen shots for my end of day trades and notes but I might just add a scoring system to that. Thanks L
-
I'm not sure what you mean by keeping charts by hand. I do keep screen shots with my levels recorded, trades I took and what I what thinking or feeling, on a daily basis. I so hear you on the discipline, I use an array of tools to cope with this: meditation EFT and sometimes just stopping what I am doing and letting go, quitting, not literally but mentally to break the obsessive search for the answer, trying to figure it all out. When I do this I make the best decisions, so I also practice this in the rest of my life too. Nothing like practicing without risking money. L

Interesting I just started using Seeking Alpha, and rather like the info that comes in. It is brief and I only read about 25% of it in depth but I do find it useful. I am currently on a 20 disciplined trade plan with one stock, so my focus is very narrow with nothing more than price and volume for indicators. It is tough as hell and very simple at the same time. I just completed trade 10 and have trade 11 on. The market takes on a whole different look when you get that tight of binders. The object of the trades is to improve my confidence, discipline and beat the stupidity out of myself, lol.:bang head: Thanks again
-
Hi Feng: Thanks for that. I keep my news and info to a minimum because it is just noise and clouds my thinking. But every once in a while I start feeling guilty like I am missing out on something really important and need to keep track of more indicators, like the vix, market sentiment, etc. I will spend a little more time today and look at my trading style, needs etc, maybe I don't need a whole lot more data, just more clarity on what is in place right now. Thanks again L
-
Besides the day to day challenges of managing my emotions, I find it very frustrating to organize all the data. I currently keep a thought journal document on google drive, and a trade log excel in google drive. I have a set of rules in a document. I am not real happy with this system but it works right now. Then comes the earnings, vix , news, etc. Does anyone else have a system or method of keeping track of all this info so it is handy? Right now it feels like herding cats and there is always a stray to find a home for, lol. Thanks

Online Trading Academy - OTA - Review of the Strategy and Education
LaReindeer replied to AKM's topic in Beginners Forum
I took the stock trading class in April 2011. Since then I had been through some painful losses, or learning curves however you wish to view them. I think the training is solid maybe not worth the money they charged but that is done now. All of the losses I incurred are 100% my responsibility and I do not blame the training. Most, no correction all of the large losses we as a result of me not following my rules. Can I be profitable at trading well that remains to be seen? Am I always going to follow my rules...if so then this is very likely. What I liked about the training Very straight forward easy to understand, it is actually a simple process I can email or call my coach any time I feel I need help I can go back and take a refresher any time I want What I didn't like They were not very clear about the fact that the successful/profitable traders had spent a lot more money than the one class to achieve their results Not enough emphasis on the amount of work you need to do emotionally/ physiologically in order to master trading W ether or not someone is successful is not dependent on the education they received but on how they applied it...and followed it. -
Introduce Yourself Here - Don't Be Shy!!
LaReindeer replied to trading4life's topic in Beginners Forum
Hello, I would still consider my self a beginner. I have been swing trading equities for about 2 1/2 years. Getting a handle on my emotions and making better rule based trades. I have ventured into forums before but found them to be a whole lot of B.S. So I am giving the forums another shot. It would be nice to chat with others who understand the personal work involved in being a trader. This is still a part time process with the intention of doing this full time. When I am not trading I build Christmas Village terrains, garden, cook, and read . I love to study the why? we do things the way we do, the study of the human brain.
