If you're not using IE at all, you could set the security options to high. That should disable all scripting. Most certainly you've got some ad/spy/malware though. I'm using noscript, cookiesafe and flashblock with firefox, works fine most of the time and requires just a little extra work.

If i understand some of the implications of the kelly criterion correctly, one possible problem is that a string of losses of high probability trades could lead to big setbacks. The risk of blowing out ones account wouldn't be so bad though, since less money would be risked after every losing trade. Of course if everything works out well, it is just the opposite. Assuming market conditions stay the same and trade execution wouldn't change.

Some more info on trading and Kelly some more info more detailed Edit: Oh i was wrong in the original post, using the formula can lead to successful trading. Larry williams who used it for winning the futures worldchampionship switched to another strategie though.

Here's friday's action in the british pound futures. I tried to pick a bottom after a volatility breakout, so it could have been a lot worse. Newbie stuff. The one that got away. P.S.: There's a 0 missing after the comma, my apologies. Nevertheless missed a max profit of 400 ticks within one day by 3-4 ticks(taking bid/offer spread into account).

i kinda like choices, and throw my own rig together once every couple of years. I'll give apple a shot somewhen just out of curiousity. Thus far it's been PC all the way though and no end in sight, maybe vista will change my mind.

If you like vanilla, and it does what you want it to do, why not.

Building a comp is easy, just choose a cpu, fitting coolers, ram, psu, gpu, motherboard, harddrive, the necessary cables(not that many) and the case and done. Assembly isn't that difficult, i'm always scared to break something but i even short circuited a cpu once and it still runs just fine. Being careful doesn't hurt though. Hardware is outdated so quickly that it is really hard to be well informed. IMO most off the shelve computers will handle trading and office work easily, at least running xp. Hardware reviews are good at http://www.tomshardware.com i guess but there are tons of other sites. I love http://www.silentpcreview.com, don't want to spend my day next to a lawnmower. Selecting the hardware might be a bit tricky because it needs some knowledge which components fit toegether. Try this http://www.daileyint.com/build/

Try to identify the program which causes the cpu usage spikes, if it is a software problem. Open the task manager, switch to the processes tab and sort by cpu utilization. Virus scanners can sometimes cause spikes, but should be less of an issue on more powerful machines.

If the winner is not very far from the strike price it would not be enough to offset your losses. Of course it might work sometimes but i don't know enough about options as well.

CIF = Cost, Insurance, Freight ASWP = Any Safe World Port. MED (Mediterranean) MT = Mega tons? mostly google combined with a bit of guessing. alexej, you're out of luck, this board is for speculators. you'll hardly find an answer here

I suppose it's the same with any other platform as well. Sometimes you only get what the vendor offers and nothing else. IMO scripting capability is a big plus, otherwise you won't be able to extend your platform. Ninjatrader isn't as widely used as TS, that's why custom indicators are still rare. The INDICATORS section is still very thin, but will grow of course. Paying for someone's work is fine, if it improves your betting average. Ninjatrader is a dream compared to my broker's platform which can only be described as crap.

Great post doc. Sorry to focus on such a tiny detail but the origin of the word politics isn't "many bloodsucking insects". Of course it describes a lot of politicians perfectly but it must have been made up as a joke and spread like a virus. dictionary entry for politic In our civilization, and under our republican form of government, intelligence is so highly honored that it is rewarded by exemption from the cares of office. Thanks for all the great contributions trader273. I only had a look at a few threads on ET and never intended to stay there, just too much noise. The short time i've been here has been pretty interesting and i haven't seen any flame wars until now. To me it seems to be just a minor nuisance. Hope you'll change your mind, but it's your decision. Stay long(except for crude) and strong

The question is if it's really animal love or other forces at work here.

How important is physical conditioning to you?
Sparrow replied to Reaver's topic in General Discussion
James if you haven't trained a lot your risk of injury is higher, especially if you go at it full throttle. Start with light training and increase the intensity over time, otherwise it might have a bad effect on your motivation. Being sore is not necessary for a good workout. -
The seasonal characteristics of oil are in favor of a pullback until nov-dec unless there is a very strong bull market. Fundamentally it's really hard to tell at the moment, there's an abundant supply of crude but heating oil and gas stockpiles are low. Hurricane season and some front page articles on cnn might provide enough strength for the big boys to unload their longs. In the last COT report longs and shorts were about balanced, with 30,000 more shorts. I'm short at 80, maybe there'll be one more rally to suck in some late longs. 68-70 would be just to good to be true for me, but we'll see how this thing will play out.

Professionals do know how to play the emotions of the crowd and even traders who have put in a lot of effort can be struggling at that times. IMHO if you want to play the news, you have to either be well prepared or you're good at making quick decision and can put on a trade within seconds. If you're a long term trader, the news and the market's reaction can tell you a lot about the momentum of the instrument. I've had it with day trading, it doesn't suite me.

Germany regulates about anything else, maybe the goverment thought the people would go berserk if they also imposed a speed limit on us . One of our last freedoms. Australia should have a couple of great race tracks, but then again that might not be as intersting as on an autobahn. If i ever make it as a trader and am able to make more than just a living from it, come around and we'll test drive some cars . I owe it to the AUD for saving my butt time and time again.

Thanks for the link James, great stuff. Good motivation for becoming a better trader .

I'm also taking the following months contracts into account, which are bearish and we'll be rolling over soon. But it's not much of a factor if you have a short term foucs and might not even mean a think in the medium term. Being wrong a lot of times is the countertrend trader's fate . Good luck

Bear, I agree with you. It didn't pull back that much on the production increase, and when straight up into the close. CL could cycle around the current level or a little bit higher for a while, but i am just guessing.

Favourite (yes you Yanks I spell it with a u) music clips!

I like most of the vids here, personally i listen to anything that fits my taste, doesn't matter which style. On a bad trading day it could be something like this( most extreme ) Or in party mood: Tony de Vit - The Dawn(hard house/Hi NRG) -
Thanks for the info Nick. The AUD futures have netted me some pretty sweet profits which are keeping me afloat( a little longer? ). My impression is that volatility is decreasing at the moment, at least compared to the july/august. It's getting harder to trade, but there could still be a couple of bucks to be made in it. My opinion on the importance of news is changing right now, thanks to material i found here. I'm reading Tom Williams - Master the Markets. It sounds like a marketing ploy for his software but the advice seems to be pretty good. Maybe you know how to play the news, i just got lucky a couple of times.

CL and ZS are also boring me to death today, missed all other worthwile setups

CFTC Reports of Commitment of Futures Traders
Sparrow replied to Dogpile's topic in Market News & Analysis
Very nice Dogpile. Is signing up to merrill lynch the only way to get these charts? Writing a small program that does the charting based on the CFTC data wouldn't be so hard. The only thing i haven't figured out yet would be how to identify the oversold/overbought conditions.
