I think we can keep this thread as the way it was intended. So far it was a good intro, in my opinion. But further theoretical discussion of Factal, Chaos, Mandelbrot.. etc will be considered off-topic. then a new thread should be created for that purpose. Agreed?

If you can't come up with a better one, then we are stuck with it.

Let me see? (1) Market is not self-similar. (2) Market is self-affinitive across different timeframes (3) Market is pseudo-fractal. Are we getting anywhere ?
-
I doubt anybody can dispute the above statement. Isn't the condition of non-distinguishability suffcient enough to be classified as being similar ? If not, what would be ? What is the definition of self-similarity anyway?

if (Bar High-SMA(5)) /((((Bar High[4]-Bar Low[4]) + (Bar High[3]-Bar Low[3]) + (Bar High[2]-Bar Low[2]) + (Bar High[1]-Bar Low[1]) + (Bar High-Bar Low))/5)*0.2) >8 set color to Red Happy New Year

Do you need eye glasses ? When in doubt, always put in the parenthesis:

We should be grateful that the market is fractal in nature and not fractal in the truest sense. If it were, we would all be out of work.

I got it working. Thanks. I am going to compare to the NinjaTrader version and see how it goes.

In order to keep this discussion productive, we need to keep our definitions consistent, so far we have only touched upon the fractal nature of the market as self-similarity across different time-frames. Your usage of the terms of fractal high, fractal low, and the associated fractal indicator, I believe.are terms popularize by Bill Williams, author of "Trading Chaos". These can be easily be called pivot high, pivot low ..etc, unless you are a vendor who is trying to sell more subscriptions. I think Dbphoenix was correct in saying the term "fractal" was often being misused.

It has been a while that I have done paintbar coding in QT. When in doubt, always put in the parenthesis: if ((Bar High-SMA)/0.3)>8 set color to Red Also is there an input value for SMA ?

Interesting, perhaps synchronicity is at work .

Sorry, exactly 40 minutes before you started this thread. Hlm and I started a conversation exactly on this topic. http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/34/all-you-need-is-a-chart-3843-12.html I think both of us thought this would be a continuation of that thread. Sorry again, I think both of us will bow out now.

Looking to Enhance Current *working* Trading Methodology
OAC replied to Susana's topic in E-mini Futures
Do women like to go short as much as going long ? I just have a hunch( man's hunch) that they don't like to go short as much. -
We are in the definition stage, there is no need to talk about trading decision yet. DbPhoenix, can you name anything that is self-similar in our physical universe. BTW, you can argue that each Hydrogen atom is unique, can you ?

Have you guys ever heard of this illustration of how a flapping of a butterfly's wings somewhere down in Brazil created a tiny breeze, that through a chain of event, becomes a horrific tornado in Texas ? I wonder if this is Wyckoff's principle of cause and effect carried to the highest fractal velocity ?

If a 5 lot trader who is a pure chartist who find him or herself, after a long period of consistent profitability and progressing linearly, suddently trading 100 lots or more. It is my opinion that he can easily purchase a piece of software that will place the trades for him. And he will never have to learn to read the DOM and concentrate on what he does best instead. If he finds himself trading a thinner market where his size may actually affect the market with 100 lots or more, then he needs to compensate by broadening his time horizon

Hlm: If I am not mistaken, I believe you never mentioned this in any of your other posts . In essence this concept is very similar to my approach. although our methodologies can be completely different. Can you elaborate a little on how the natural fractal swings of the market relates to basic Market Profile concepts that you are a big fan of ? Thanks

Sorry I misread your post, you put in quotes and I thought that was the error message you got while running Ninjatrader. Most of the complaint about IB is their tick data, they have a thing called aggregated tick which decrease bandwidth and increase speed during peak trading session. since this thread is about Pivots in IB, It is kind of irrelevent.

You must did something wrong. You need to run TWS concurrently with NinjaTrader. Also you must configure TWS's API setting correctly.

Those institutions that spend billions and billions on fundamental research are looking at the weekly charts and will occasionally peek at the daily chart and its 200ma. They don't even know what a 15 minutes chart look like nor do they care. Case in point, look at Warren Buffet, one of the richest man in the world and his horizon is something like 20 years. Those prop firms that hire jocks for trader position should at least make sure they got at least a B in college Economics so they don't embarass themselves in a trader's forum.

So I guess nothing is faster on the information curve than putting a bug on Bernanke's phone line ? Then I guess if you are rich enough. nothing is out of reach. But wasn't that what the movie "Wall Street" was all about ? When you label all this as Fundamental Analysis which institutions spent billions on, you have just created massive confusion. God save the newbie traders on TL .

Advantages and Disadvantages of Insitutional Trading
OAC replied to Soultrader's topic in General Trading
Forget institutions, even prop firms in the US are looking for traders to have PHD and traders assistants to be well-versed in Excel.
