Have you been asleep the past couple of days?

More just saying... Regardless of what any of you hopeful (hopeless) near-do-wells think (myself included)... you gotta love the price action of late... The laughable part (apart from my own sadness at the prospects) is that there is more to come... trade it as you see it. We unlike most, have choice in our own personal outcomes, but this is due to the fact that we can trade either side of the equation. Few have that option...

More just saying... My own cynical nature conjures up the character of "Larry Lonesome Rhodes" from the movie "A Face in the Crowd". If you've seen the movie, I think you kind of get where I'm coming from. I hope I'm wrong, but my cynical nature is rarely too far from the truth. Fiction lives because it contains a level of truth...

More just saying... not that it matters. Once again, I find myself amused (but not very). I have this odd vision of a deer caught in the headlights of a 1950's Cadillac with worn ball joints and the driver trying to decide which way to swerve to miss the beast. I think I've heard more democrats congratulating the President elect, than republicans. I don't hold much prospect of clean miss, but congrats to our new President elect... good times, good trading, good luck.

Mitsu... There is enough truthfulness expressed here to fill a 55 gallon drum. Funny... I wonder how many other "obstinate dickheads" find success in this business (it may be a prerequisite). I was going to elaborate with my own thoughts, but I think you've said it just fine. Nice work...

A Trader’s Attitude Makes a Difference!
jpennybags replied to analyst75's topic in Trading Psychology
Sure... the road to success is paved with peace, love and happiness. Feel good about yourself... stay positive. Great words to live by; if you work for someone else. Get hard, get real... do the right thing everyday. It has nothing to do with "positive thoughts". Say it again... Get hard, get real... do the right thing everyday. It's much more than showing up for work with a positive attitude... Say it again... Maybe I can; maybe I can't but it's on me either way. This is not "positive"... this is "neutral". Either it is, or it isn't. That is what you need to take responsibility for, not positive thinking. -
More “just saying”… Over the weekend I read the above mentioned book: “Pendulum” (authors Williams and Drew). I had not intended to get into it for several weeks, but the thought occurred that it may dovetail with other items of interest. If you are concerned with social issues, you may find this book an interesting read. I read the “kindle” version (one of the few modern gadgets that I actually am enamored of). The book format uses different color texts to illustrate “me” and “we” pendulum swings, and as the kindle displays only black and white, you may not get the full reading experience that the authors intended, but never the less, it's workable. The book was published in 2012, and I must say that more recent events actually feed into the hypothesis (from my perspective anyway) of 80 year swings in general sentiment. With that last statement, I may add that “I can close my eyes and draw a two point line on any chart and then proceed to make something of it”. Take from “it” what you make of “it”; just don't swallow it whole (the authors take up this issue, so please pay attention to that aspect).

Mitts… I hear you dude. “I am a trader, not a traitor”. I have made this statement in a past post, and while it's not the opening line to some personal manifesto, it is an expression of exasperation. I will try to follow on with my honest thoughts (always in flux). I am a man of 57 years. I've seen good times and bad; suffered loss and tasted success; dealt with adversity in people, places and things. I am experienced, and have always been (tried to be) thoughtful of my positions in a life of reason. Often times, as with most people, it all gets lost in the process of going with the flow (water over rock), but it has created memories. In short, what I'm saying is that “I've lived a life”. Memories aside… Wait… wait, wait. Self driving cars, because your attention span is “about 8 seconds” (mine is longer); washing machines that will allow addition of items in mid cycle because you forgot something; refrigerators that have a camera so you can view the inside from your smart phone (because you don't know what's in there while you are at the store)… the list goes on about things you can't manage to do without “bot” help, that others have always managed to do with some efficiency and grace. I have those in my own family who cannot find a destination without GPS (even more disparaging is that they've been there before and can't find their way back a week later… are you lost again?). Rejection of the current path… doubtful. Note to Mr. Zdo: I have not yet read the book “Pendulum” but it's about 3-4 weeks out on my reading list. It may provide a some new insight. It may just be that I'm too “old school” to envision a way forward for the many, but only the few.

Ha! Well yes, I was feeling the need for taking a break. I chose to delay my hiatus for a bit (my call). “Reptilian brain issues” is probably not far from the truth, but I can see that I've ruffled some feathers (which was my intent), and that possibly there is enough reptilian brain present for the both of us. That aside, I do so much enjoy hearing your perspective, and I hope that there was no genuine offense taken. Yes, I was projecting (for your entertainment and mine), but how can removing the “ist” from anarchist lead us anywhere but back to statism? Once again, you've lost me (anyone else?). If you make ambiguous statements, then proceed to blather on about associations trapped in others brains, and insist that others are just too unenlightened to understand (which may be, though I have my doubts), we (speaking for myself) tend to see this as petulance; it is rather irritating. And then, I would ask: “who's projecting now?” If you want to be understood then by all means explain your position. I will listen thoughtfully, and it's doubtful that I would call “bullshit” on any of it. One man's opinion in “complex” matters is just that… opinion (something to be considered). Thank you for the book suggestion. I have added it to my reading list (for my resumed hiatus).

The village idiot is amused... you gotta quit, you're killing me (I have mild case of pneumonia... it hurts to laugh). It would be fun to become a jihadist until you get shot. A new set of friends; a part of something larger than yourself; take selfies with your gun and head gear; revel in your own self taking charge and making the world a better place. It would be fun to become an anarchist until you get shot. A new set of friends; a part of something larger than yourself; take selfies with your gun and head gear as you defend your own property; revel in your own self taking charge and making your world a better place (until it sucks... then you need government when it's convenient, but lets just ignore that point for now). It would be fun to become a criminal until you get shot. A new set of friends; take selfies with your gun and head gear (for no other reason than giving the FBI more damning evidence in their case against you... it was good while it lasted). It is always fun to believe in something; it kinda feels like you are taking charge and moving forward. We do all so much need our romantic ideals. Face it... we live in a world where people are gored by wild buffalo because they want to get a selfie to post on their facebook page (it was good while it lasted... I got 300 likes). They too believed in "something" (at least for the moment). A person can get pissed off, and pound salt in their ass out of spite. Does that seem productive? You can find any flavor of that fiasco on the internet. The village idiot will leave you with this thought: Revolutions are much like writing novels; easy to start, but difficult in finding an ending that satisfies all. Trade it as you see it...
-
Once again, the village idiot is amused. My point of view has just now placed you on the continuum between "those that think they know" and "those that obviously don't know" (sorry, leaning more toward the later... at least on this statement). Several weeks ago, there were so-called medical reports "leaked" (whatever the fuck that means) about Mrs. Clinton being diagnosed with subcortical vascular dementia. Alright, it's all good clean fun in the political arena, but with some cursory inspection of these documents, the village idiot rather doubts the authenticity. I think I'll trade it according to my point of view. With that said, the village idiot feels need of a hiatus from this form of amusement... or possibly it's a mild case of "pneumonia".

Well... I'll apologize upfront, but Damn... I am amused (sorry). Was this "JP" directed at "me" from post #19... sorry, it went over my head (saw it, just didn't understand it, or that it may have addressed to something I said earlier): So.. JP sees 'constitutional protection of labor rights; consensus building systems which foster political clientalism; and the right to protest if unwelcome changes are made to the political status quo.' as a problem. And that 'problem has been revealed by the crisis that they helped cause. And presumably, since they see this problem as having occurred after the demise of fascism, then fascism is better for business in their opinion. Once again... I am amused; you grant me far too much credit. I am a self proclaimed village idiot (that's why I trade the lesser time frames as a scalper... I don't need to know anything beyond price action). The problem with living a life among men is that there are those that "know"; there are those that "think they know"; there are those that "obviously don't know... to discern the difference largely depends on a point of view (there are those that know "absolutely"; rarely are they proven right "absolutely"). As I've said before: "I am a simple man; my pleasures come easily". I am a "trader" not a "traitor". I have my own point of view to which my loyalties lie, though my advice remains the same: "trade it as you see it".

Noam Gottesman: Founder of a Successful Trading Business
jpennybags replied to analyst75's topic in Trading Psychology
Well... I am a self inspired expert (on everything), but with a modicum of honesty, and personal integrity I rarely try to convince others of this. Besides, it most always goes sideways the moment I open my mouth, unless there is more than one idiot in the room. -

Exasperation is kind of where I'm at... but I am amused. To the OP... Yes, this person you reference may have become rich and famous... that's all good. For those of you who frequent this site looking for answers; this is not the answer. You may note that this person worked for his MBA, was accepted for a job at GS, and this rest is history (as the saying goes). Is that you? I think if it were you, you would not be on some forum looking for answers. Please. leave this trading drivel, and work out your own trading salvation on your own terms. Be creative...think for yourselves. The other thing, and this is something that mystifies me (in a humorous way): "Mr. Joel Darr, with all due respect, why have you chosen to register here as a "vendor"? Please don't take offense at this question. I only ask because I have seen several so-called vendors that actually have nothing to offer (I'm not just talking about sound trading advice). I'm just curious... are you a vendor of "I heart trading mouse pads"... or some such thing? I am just asking... no judgement involved from my perspective (not a totally true statement, but I am curious... maybe I want to register as vendor if there is some financial advantage to be had). -
There Is Something Intriguing About Trading

Ha! There are several appropriate replies that come to mind: (1) What? I sniffed my fingers after; I was good. (2) No, ass! Not ass crack. (3) It may have been my head that I scratched; I sometimes confuse the two. Anyway, thank you to the OP for sponsoring another fine get together. Sorry about that stain on the carpet. -

I woke up this morning, scratched my ass, and thought: "there is great potential in this new day"... (1) We have Janet Yellen speaking at Jackson Hole (always a money making opportunity when the queen stands and delivers... I did alright today; played it nicely); (2) I mowed the lawn yesterday ahead of the rains (always a good thing to stay up with the chores); (3) Checked my phone, and had received a text message from my daughter with an invitation for dinner tomorrow (way cool). I am a simple man; my pleasures come easily... And then... Fucking Yikes! I would not venture to defend Mr. Zdo... I see no reason... it's an open forum. What I will say though: it is interesting to read his posts. Does he write this stuff off the cuff? I would say he does; talk about "disjointed" writing (well, fuck yes). Even though I may be "the one in a thousand", am I a disciple? Well, no... but I have come to appreciate and find merit in his point of view (thanks for playing "the disciple card"). I don't know where you are headed with your latest bend [possibly "bender" is more appropriate (ask any alcoholic for the definition)], but this seems a bit over wrought. For the record: I will be out of the office for the remainder of the weekend (enjoying it). My press agent won't be available either... come on man... really? -
And the winner is Mitsubishi with a score of (.42), nice work man... and the crickets played on... The problem with (for) vendors on TL is that the traffic here has slowed to a crawl. I suppose there is a straggler noob that stumbles in once in a while. I think the site is running on autopilot. As an example: I have dropped the motherfucking unabridged f-bomb with some frequency over the past month. I should have been banned weeks ago. No moderators? And another: I haven't had instant email notification since March of this year. Sent two requests to the webmaster seeking resolution to the problem... nothing (my language was cordial). And the crickets played on...

At this point in the conversation I would hope to redirect to my thread in general discussion... give A75 some room (so to speak). If you'll (those reading) would like to experiment with the BlaBlameter the general discussion forum may be a more appropriate place... http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/general-discussion/20463-blablameter.html#post203792

It gets even better from my own personal perspective... About 8 months ago I received an email from a woman that I went to high school with. She was a couple of years older than me (still is actually... go figure), and I must admit to having had "a thing" for her back then. The logistics behind why she decided to look me up are not necessary to understand my amusement... I had to rummage through some archived files to find our correspondence, but I did eventually, and I ran the BlaBlaMeter on what I had written, and then the same for what she had written. Funny... we both scored above .20 (her:.24... me: .28) Ha!!! OMG... I'm fucking human.

Amusing... Our fellow TL member Mitsubishi, posted this amusing writing tool on another thread. You may want to try it out... for nothing more than your own amusement... I tested a first draft of an article that I was considering posting here and scored a .32 on the scale. My first drafts are always a bit frothy, but the first edit usually resolves much of that. Not to worry... As a curiosity I dug up some political speech transcripts that were posted on the web. Most scored +.30 on the scale (no surprise there). I then dug up some lengthy emails of mine addressed to close friends or family. I scored sub .05 on all of those. Further, I tested some recent TL posts of mine and scored in the range of .09 to .16 So, gathering from the test results, I don't "bullshit" friends and family, but I do "bullshit" others somewhat. BTW for what it's worth, this post scored .08 http://www.blablameter.com/index.php
-
Funny... I checked an article that I was considering posting: scored .32 In all fairness to my ego and self esteem it hasn't reached the first edit yet, and my first drafts are always a bit frothy. A most useful tool. By the way, I checked some recent posts of yours (.11 and .12). I was hoping to snag you, but no such luck.

There Is Something Intriguing About Trading
jpennybags replied to analyst75's topic in Trading Psychology
Ha! As usual, I had to look up definitions for some of the words used, but all-in-all... nicely stated Mr. Zdo. I have a single rule; not a rule written on a stone tablet handed down from "on high" (so to speak of the "voice of trading"). It is quite simple, and only serves as a personal reminder to my own idiosyncratic tendency of over aggression. It consists of an 8 X 10 framed statement, that hangs on the wall above my trading desk. It is as follows: WAIT... WAIT FOR IT STUPID To my way of thinking... there are no rules, only observation, consideration and context. To try to define trading as a protocol of "if-then" statements that can be transferred from one person to the next, is frothy at best, and utterly ambiguous at it's worst. Most of what is posted here is the later rather than the former, but both are problematic. Edit... I realize that I'm being ambiguous in what I've said. Truth of the matter is... there is no hope for you unless you can solidify "ambiguity" into something coherent to your own understanding. The "market" is filled with ambiguity, and you need to learn to deal with it. Sorry man... more ambiguity... I can't stop. So, in all manner of helpfulness and good faith, I will shut the fuck up. -
Once again... I am amused... deblov275... Please, just stop writing. The advice you are providing is banal, and in many regards simply horrid. Case in point... To "buy heavily when price is bleeding", is in all likelihood is going to lead to the next bit of priceless advice about "never be afraid to sell at a loss". I know you have read "this" in some book somewhere and then regurgitated "it" onto our shoes (thanks pal), but it can't be from personal experience that you are offering up this bit of sage wisdom. Nothing concerning "investing" should be done with a heavy hand, and further, every decision that you make must be placed in context with current market conditions. As a retail investor, you will never have the "straight dope" on why an equity has fallen out of favor. The truest bit of information you can have is price action, and what the market is telling you about the collective opinion, this should be your major concern. To your faithful readers (gawd help em): There are many different (successful) strategies for accumulating shares when prices are depressed, all are based on sound money management, and reading what the collective opinion is telling you. Please though, stop reading this guy because it's doubtful he will stop writing... save yourselves.

There Is Something Intriguing About Trading
jpennybags replied to analyst75's topic in Trading Psychology
I am amused... Mitsu, give the guy a break; everyone has to eat in this business... There will be those that are pulled into this sort of advertising, and there is nothing you or I can do about it. It has been and will continue to be a part of the trade. As with all things in the business: "due diligence is required". If you are a 'noob" and have been impressed by much of what A75 posts here, and you do not have the where-with-all to discern the "helpful" from the "not so helpful", well then listen up... A75 has posted a lot of trading pablum on this site. For the most part it's harmless, and he may be running a business that is on the up-and-up. I have no opinion on that matter, nor do I care to take the time to form a valid opinion on the matter. Much (if not all) of what he has posted here is about so called "super traders"..."elite traders"... and the like. Well, let's just be honest: "you ain't that, and in all probability (even if you are successful) you will never be "that". In short, because I don't care enough to elaborate further (any more than A75 does) you will probably fail, because you don't have a boss; all it takes is a computer and an internet connection; it takes very little capital to get started; and best of all... you can train your family to become rich... just like you. Come on man; it's laughable... you're killing me... -
I don't trade oil, so possibly I should hold my tongue. Though, much like "the Donald" I only need to know a little to speak my mind (ignorant fuck that I am)... The price of anything can be manipulated for a time. This can occur either through collusion in one form or another, or the size of the player(s) in the market. In the end though, supply and demand is the main driver of price. In my opinion, everyone would be happier with price at $80.
