Creating Trading App - Need Input from You Guys
onesmith replied to Market_Correlation's topic in Technical Analysis
You need out of the box original thinkers with correlation experience. Without ot your teams combined years trading experience is a leading [offset infinite] negative one correlation to everthing in the array. If you truly get that .. goog should reward you well for your year of hard work. -
Tams, I am curious why you are not interested in reading Radge's Unholy Grail. Thanks in advance for your insights.

Creating Trading App - Need Input from You Guys
onesmith replied to Market_Correlation's topic in Technical Analysis
Here's a link to my requirement. It should go without saying that in addition to what's stated .. data access should be easy to implement. 3rd party is fine if everything works smoothly. http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/tools-trade/11655-ninjatrader-vs-tradestation-vs-open-ecry.html#post146451 -
With this in mind, that this evidence devoid of speculation is the only statement of fact, I encourage everyone to continue.

Other than the expectation of increased volatility coinciding with the timing of reports there isn't any value in giving any weight to anything other than my charts.

It's never certain until eod but you might have nailed this one. I was seeing some strengt that I didn't quite know what to make of but I hope to find some value within when I get it sorted out. thankyou

A spike is an extremely long tailed pinbar at a price extreme. A flag pole is an extremely strong trend with very little overlap between bars. Please correct these and add your understanding of any subtle nuances.

Everyone who looks can find James Simmons's b o b bots. Don't try to understand them within the context of his reasons, his processes, or his charts. Build your understanding upon whats in your chart, and base what's in your chart on whether it helps you see bots.
-
When coders begin to question what bots are seeing at any given point of interest, and think in terms of the rule based lines of code that could be active at that moment in time then you will be able to write statistically significant strats based on a sample size of one. Your interest in backtesting your models will become secondary to reverse engineering what's happening right before your eyes because you intuitively know when you see something that adds value to your models.

Data1 must be smallest timeframe. Data2 must be equal or greater than data1 timeframe. After the indicator is inserted in a chart .. Format indicator, General tab, Base study on data2 but you might have to reconfigure the scaling tab depending on how you want to display the result. if you're specifing the data2 hooks within the code then leave the base_indicator_on setting at it's default data1. // both examples produce identical results value1=stochastic(H,L,C,14,3,3,1,oFastK,oFastD,oSlowK,oSlowD) data2; // data 2 outside parens at function level value1=stochastic(H data2,L data2,C data2,14,3,3,1,oFastK,oFastD,oSlowK,oSlowD); // data2 inside parens at HLC Series functions sometimes have complications that simple functions don't. I remember being told it was necessary to explicitly declare data2 vars but I don't recall how that's done and never understood why it was necessary because I never had a problem skipping that step. BTW, like Tams says, the more info you provide the more likely you will get the right answer the first time you ask.

SunTrader, thank you for your comment. I can appreciate and understand what your saying and that it's important to you to stay loyal to what has been working for you but I have my own process which I must remain loyal to and part of that process includes the creation of nlp anchors around important events so I am able to recall these valuable memories with vivid detail. Backtesting, bots, automated strategies, these items are very similar to one another and it's probable I read something one of our brothers said on another topic about how sitting through a several month drawdown can be necessary if it's within what's considered normal based on backtesting for that particular strat. Sometimes it's not possible to provide helpful information to someone at the time their asking and within the confines of the thread in which it's first mentioned but it's important these brothers get the correct information and I assure you there is someone that can benefit by what I've said and I do not have any agenda so please accept my apology if it seemed like I was talking to adolessents from your point of view.

If your objective is to code algo robots you will not succeed in backtesting or reverse engineering a method to compete with these bots until you look at your chart, clear your mind of thoughts about backtesting, and study the bots on your chart within the framework of whatever technicals helps you see bots. During price shocks the entire order book near current price is wiped clean. Relatively few traders are willing to replenish orders within range of a severe shock, but best of best bots are there adding new liquidity. Similar bots controled by same s'ist of sm roam the fringes and beyond. There is no significance to my mention of order book, liquidity, price shock, range, fringe and beyond within this paragraph. Looking there is missing the point. My point is simply if you look for bots you will find bots. If you don't find bots within the constraints of your technicals you will figure out ways to adjust your technicals in the directions where you think you might have seen bots. If you're not spending all your time looking for bots and don't understand the obvious bots active within your own charts you won't succeed in coding bots even if you find a fully disclosed open source bot in a book, on a website or anywhere else bots don't exist because no one trades bots that don't work and soon as new bots become active other bots adjust or they're gone.

I personally welcome and thank Spookywill for his generous efforts and courage to post trades that have encouraged the outstanding thoughts and ideas being shared here on Spookywill's thread.

It interupts my pattern and directs my attention toward a chart. Relatively quickly I see something that adds value to my models and spend a long time studying it or I move on. A random number generator would be just as effective in that respect but I will not follow it's suggestion to look at a chart because I can't convince myself that method has any value. If I believed it had value it would be just as effective for me in my process. The less reasoning and explanation for the trades the more likely I will see through my own eyes instead of someone elses. The fact generous will feels so strongly about his process it doesn't matter to me if there's an agenda I'm not seeing or if my decision to follow his trades is flawed for other reasons. The fact he posts them enhances the magical power of my subconscious to believe I will find something valuable at that spot on that chart. I see his trade via the the reasons I'm willing to trade at that spot not through his reasons. It's difficult to stay with our own charts, particularly if we're thinking there's something better available. If somone is unhappy then looking for something else is something I highly recomend but it is extremely important to settle on something. It's not that important what it is because you will figure the rest out given enough time focusing on any one thing and make the necessary adjustments. The key there is to know what you know with the certainty that comes with having done the work yourself. Repeat that effort while trying everything you see on the forum (for an extended time period) without distraction by new ideas, eventually your focus narrows and you have a preference for the types of new ideas you want to try. Throughout that process you will be developing something of your own, whether you're aware of it or not, and when this cycle of trying new things comes to an end you will having something that fits you well. In the end, you will believe looking at a chart is the best way to increase your understanding and it will be a better use of your time than trying to add something that doesn't come directly from what you see on your own chart through your own eyes.

many dvlpr prefer Truth that Disempowers vs seeding subconscious with Disinformation that Empower. if invert scientific method then subc provide solution resolve conflict. Subc Provide Truth and neutralize false. If lucky New Truth Preferrable else repeat invert until New Truth Preferrable. Subc's duty is to prove all Disinformation = True.

Phantom, in defence of BHs, he's the most dedicated developer on the forum in terms of public effort to be on top of the things that are on his path. His effort's are inspiring. He's a great guy with excellent manners just having some difficulty with the scientific method and striving to keep things ordered the way he prefers them.

You ask a reasonable question. When you answer it the items not included in the quote become less important within your hierarchy of things.

Ninjatrader Vs Tradestation Vs Open Ecry Vs Anyother
onesmith replied to Octavian's topic in Tools of the Trade
I recommend you try everything that looks interesting while thinking you won't necessarily get it right on your first try. A list of features and specifications isn't necessarily going to mention the one thing that determines your success. You're not even likely to know what that one thing is until you find it. Telling you what it is will not make you a believer like knowing it for yourself after living through your own experience. The most important platform feature is it's programming language must be succinct and able to easily prototype new ideas. I enjoy clearing my mind and spending time in abstract thought conceptualizing and increasing my understanding of what works and what doesn't and the reasons behind these truths. If you want my business then consider many have tried and only one platform has succeeded. -
Just a note to let you know I've benefited by reading your posts.

While meditating earlier I became the significantly_large_sample_size and I realized I was the disinformation that was limiting me in ways I do not want to be limited. Please help me get back to where the information is outside me and I am free to choose which information I am. Will it help me if I practice saying I am? Will it help to end every sentence with the words I am? How can I ever become more than the disinformation and become who I am?

Study strategies. Learn how to program. The other suggestions might help but they're inefficient and unnecessary diversions.

Strategies based upon timeless emotions, take $$$$ from those with the same understanding of these timeless emotions. Meditated philosophers who write code come from the same set of meditated philosophers who don't prepare by writing code. Trading is Trading. Trading is not zen. Zen is Zen. Zen is not trading. Different philosophy? Who can say it doesn't work for someone using it to attain their state. Which would Aristotle prefer?

If you have time please post the code for the ***function*** named ATRtrailingstop, because I would like to see how it works ... and it's preventing me from compiling this indicator, but I did find the bug. I replaced the color input (which was set to black) with 2 inputs that are red and green. You might need to reverse the colors if they are upside down because I didn't look at this closely. When you recompile this the inputs will change. That means it will need to be removed from the chart and reinserted before the new inputs will work. If you close the editor after it's complied you can change the input colors and set their default values while the indicator is loaded in the chart, without triggering events within the editor that might cause additional momentary confusion. MightyMouse, I like Gary's posts and encourage him to keep posting. He's clearly mastered the area he specializes in. As to sifting out bs I support and appreciate your efforts. I also appreciate your trading skills and enjoy your posts immensely. Regarding before or after the fact. Specify your desired criteria a priori and any timing constraint within the models found is guaranteed to match the equation you formulated.

EL - Can It Return All Permutations for a Set of Values?
onesmith replied to BlueHorseshoe's topic in TradeStation
As zdo suggests ...binary numbers can be represented as integers and looped from zero to infinity_minus_one while simultaneously flipping a bit in it's corresponding binary format.
