  1. Funny! And I forgot, off-topic posts will be moderated more closely and will be moved into its own thread, if I get requests to do so. Just so everyone knows, the thread that prompted this discussion was the TA Debunked thread that got WAY off topic. MMS
  2. Wow interesting article ... personally, I believe people need to have consequences to their actions. We *should* be good citizens and try to help by warning people when there is an obvious scam going on but it is not our place to police if whatever they are doing is not illegal. If they want to take the gamble and lose their house after repeated warnings ... well that is their problem. Same thing goes for trading ... sometimes people need to lose some money on some stupid vendors and indicators before they learn ... its part of the process. As traders, isn't it actually beneficial to us there are less knowledgeable people to trade against?! I don't want to trade against Goldman! Just like in poker, I don't want to be the fish at my table. MMS
  3. I think we've come to a conclusion on this topic ... thanks everyone for your input. I'm glad we are all in agreement that personal attacks and insults leads nowhere and will be moderated immediately. In addition, vendor advertisements will also be moderated immediately. thx MMS
  4. Hey MM I didn't know you traded options. Would you have a recent example where you used this on a stock and it worked out? thx MMS
  5. Let's not start talking about proving anyone's methods in this thread - if you guys want to get into that again (without insults please) then please do so in the FeltonTrading thread. Thanks! Couldn't said it better myself ... we can disagree but we can also do without the name calling and insults. That is all everyone is asking for. thanks MMS
  6. Hi Neil, The link was probably removed because we thought it was promoting a product. But if it isn't please post it again and we will be more careful this time. MMS
  7. The posts you mentioned were not related to this topic - it was rehashing issues from the other thread (FeltonTraidnd Method I believe) - thus they were removed. I have no issues with people questioning and being skeptical, if you look through the other thread I left many posts that were on topic. The only ones I removed were the ones where were personal attacks and insults - from both parties. MMS
  8. Agreed ... but once someone is challenged and he doesn't respond sufficiently, that is evidence enough for everyone else reading to make the right conclusions. We don't need to beat a dead horse. Further, if we don't agree with what someone says, personal attacks is not healthy. Why can't we just ignore what they are talking about and let them talk amongst themselves? By trying to prevent them from talking about whatever BS they are talking about isn't that just another form of censorship? If they want to talk about making a million dollars by trading penny stocks let them!! We may think its stupid and we may disagree but its not our place to stop the discussion. With that said, we will get better at moderating vendors so they don't use the forums to advertise. That is something we need to get better at. MMS
  9. I will only remove posts that don't contribute to the thread topic. I may move them to a new thread if I think the topic has enough interest. As for unsubstantiated claims made by vendors, we will moderate all advertisements as necessary. But if someone (vendor or not) doesn't want to 'prove' his claims, that is his prerogative and everyone should leave it at that. People reading will see the lack of response and should be able to make their own conclusions. The community here doesn't have to beat it out of them - it just causes flamewars as we've seen and that is not in the spirit of TL. thanks, MMS
  10. Your posts and insights are very appreciated! ... most of the time MMS
  11. There is value in the remaining post wr to the thread topic. MMS
  12. Hi, The reason one does a spread is to offset the cost of the bullish call ... so to ensure they can do this, its safest to get into the position at the same time - in case the trade turns against them and they are never able to sell the call for the same premium. But if you are really bullish why even bother with a spread at all? You are just limiting your potential gains. MMS
  13. Interesting question! And as an owner of a trading site I'm actually doing both. Here is my take ... Advantages to trading is that market, tools, education materials, are very well defined and readily available. You can start tomorrow with $5000. You just have to execute better than the next guy. But the simple fact that is easy to get started means it is very easy to rush in and trade without knowing what you are doing. Now compare this with starting a company or trying to invent a product. If you build the best mousetrap is there even a market for it? Can you find investors to fund you? If you open a store you will need tons of startup capital before the first customer walks in. You are so dependent on other people to be successful; customers, suppliers, vendors, investors, etc. But if you are able to find a good network of people supporting\helping your business, things can really take off! As an entrepreneur, your main job is to SELL. Sell to customers, suppliers, investors, employees, etc. You NEED them in order for you to be successful. A trader is a lone wolf. MMS
  14. I think it's great people question and debate - I don't when it turns into personal attacks when it doesn't need to (which happens way too often). Also, I feel if people don't agree with someone else's thread, they are doing a disservice to the entire community by hi-jacking it and taking it off-topic. I believe a better course of action is to ignore the thread and let the people who want to discuss whatever do it. I was always taught to mind my own business and if I don't have anything nice to say I shouldn't. Or at least to say it quickly and then go back to minding my own business. MMS
  15. Hi, I assure you that will never happen again. I am the only moderator and these are the guidelines I've been following: 1. no personal attacks 2. off topic posts *only* where others have complained directly to me thx MMS
  16. Hi Members! How much moderation do you all want on the threads? I've received a few recent 'complaints' that threads are getting off-topic too much. But on the flip-side, others have said they like the banter. What does everyone else think? Please let me know here! thanks, MMS
  17. Come on guys, I don't think Roger meant anything with that sentence ... let's not look at everything with such a skeptical eye. Anything can be made to look bad if you really want it to be. MMS
  18. I agree with the other posters here ...take your losses (if you have any) and move on. FB's ads don't work, the ecommerce stores didn't work, the tax on game revenue is questionable as zygna's revenue is questionable, in short the killer revenue model is still unknown. The social media bubble is bursting right before our eyes. MMS
  19. So true ... This just happened to me recently selling naked puts ... Gathering small premiums but took a big loss when i was assigned something that dropped big. Argh MMS
  20. Looks like the Gold trade is on ... I'm thinking we've hit bottom and this is a start to a new trend up MMS
  21. Capital gains exclude commissions, so you pay tax only on $980 ... at least that's how it works up here in Canada MMS
  22. Thanks for the feedback - we will work on these suggestions thx MMS
  23. Yes that looks like what is happening doesn't it? We'll have to see what the rest of the week brings but I still believe we are in a long-term bull market, even though short-term the technicals look negative. MMS
  24. I think its a good time to start buying a tranche or two. I can't see how a big bailout can be avoided in Europe ... if not Greece then one of the other PIIGS. And eventually the US itself! MMS
