Differences Between Simulated and Real Trading
jchatel replied to AppliedPeople's topic in Beginners Forum
"So, good luck! Watch out for the rest of us who are out to get your money" Those comments are quite disturbing, the stock market it not a fighting/war arena (although it may be quite intense sometimes). It's also a place where risks are taken and insured. Both parties involved in a deal can be perfectly legitimately happy even if it means one party "lost" money. One party agrees on taking a risk and the other party is happy that that other party is taking that risk. The same way your insurer is happy to take your money to cover you with a risk and you are happy that your risk is covered. -
Differences Between Simulated and Real Trading

Gabriel, I don't trade futures Is that simple. I trade options on index and such. I have a crappy web interface broker, I trade while at work occasionally when I spot an opportunity mainly. But I didn't say I was successful at it! One book I found of tremendous help is Memory of a stock trader operator... a classic! Jeremy -

For options, you have hidden quotes. Market makers having script to trigger orders close to bid/ask, so I never pay the displayed price. I never tried ES and such though (moving too fast for me ). Oh and also, stress level is way different, but you are most likely already aware of this Happy trading. Jeremy Affinity -

A Must See !....principals Apply, Whatever You Trade

Thanks for the info, I watched it and enjoyed the first episode, the second and third turns into reality shows and I got bored. I like the explanations: "Shorting involves a complex mechanism..." lol Why did they need to phone their brokers?! and I couldn't see them using derivatives -
wow! That's really cool

Hi folks, I'm developping a software that helps me to follow the market while being at work. At the moment it's early stage and supports only ZenFire and SwissQuote (a swiss online broker for Swiss stocks), but that also means that I'm glad to get any constructive feedback good or bad to improve the soft. Affinity Beta 1 Hope you guys can give it a go and tell me what you think of it!

I'm trading for almost 2 years while at work. It has its ups and down. Watching always the market will precipitate my actions, which I do some time but regret most of the time I enjoy trading but I'm not skilled enough to full time trade like some of the lucky one here. Instead, I develop professional trading applications in my spare time (that other can download) to help me follow the market while at work and place a few trades when I spot an oppotunity. That can be once or twice a month. I'm not playing on forex and future, just options on stock and recently on index too. So it's like gambling really to some extend.

Haha, I feel the same, when I have to go to a meeting and I see the index going fast in a direction I don't like

Hi all, Not everyone has the chance to trade full time. I trade options on EUREX, but I also have a full time job, which means I kind of have to trade while at work (because of market opening time colliding with my daily job). Do all people here trade full time or is there people that are in the same situation as I am and have to adapt their trading strategy? Also, for those in my situation, I'd be curious to know how people are trading while at work, because I can't launch a NinjaTrader or other software while at work!

Hi all, I discover trading 1.5 years ago and the only thing I could say is that education costs... I'm a professional software engineer working on fast software for market maker, I also plan on doing financial software for casual traders like me. I worked in the video game industry too on several block buster. Looking forward to read more on this forum, I especially like the beginner section. Thumb up for the host.

This is a cool "old" thread. I listen to music in loop, it helps me to go in the flow (the point where only what you focus on exists). Electronic music works nice for that. Things like Moby or Schiller. I listen a lot to Moby it's raining again, when the market is bearish (The post wasn't about music you listen while successully trading right?)
