Online War Game to Pass Some Time
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in General Discussion
We may be full already! -
You know that OEC is in Ohio, right? Your request is documented on my end. If you want more, contact OEC yourself and see if you can push it through. Just a word of advice - if you are trading a 1 lot account, don't expect everything to be dropped for you, ok? I'd like to keep this thread on topic, so please let it be.

Yes, they are everywhere. But as my post above states, a simple alarm clock or egg timer will not work for what I am looking for. Either I have to restart the alarm each time (not interested in this) or I have to try to time it myself (again, not interested in this). As I mentioned in the other thread, I found what I wanted, but it doesn't always work! http://www.woodiescciclub.com/start.htm if you go to woodie's site and scroll a little over half way down you will see TRADING TOOLS. Click the Woodies Chart clock. That little thing is perfect. Except it doesn't always work. I'll attach the zip file here in case anyone wants to see what I am talking about. For me, it's all I need if the timers would work. I wish I could do more formatting to it (like make it bigger). I tried to attach here but did not work. Here's a link to the zip file for this alarm: http://www.mediafire.com/?1gdejzszv0i

Nice. Not even 5 days go by and 'any update'. Allow me to explain my part in this thread forsearch - I provide feedback to OEC 3-4 times a year with suggestions, ideas, etc. Your idea will be submitted the next time I submit my review. Which means, still time before I submit it, time for them to review it and IF they proceed forward with it, a little more time.

SPY Opening Range Volume Vs Days Range
brownsfan019 replied to darthtrader's topic in Technical Analysis
darth - very interesting indeed. I am going to look into this more myself. We'll see if we can't find something useful to work with here. Some of the posts being referenced at TraderFeed are: http://traderfeed.blogspot.com/2007/07/anticipating-volatility-in-stock-market.html http://traderfeed.blogspot.com/2008/04/sector-correlations-as-decision-support.html -
Simon, Since I think this is the result of our discussions, here is what I would like: The ability to set a timer to go off every X minutes. X being where the end user sets the threshold. For me, I would like a timer to go off every 15 minutes. The trick here for me is that I would like to the timer to go off at 'odd' times. I would like the timer to alert me when there is 2 minutes left on my 15 minute candle. In other words, I need the timer to go off at 9:28, 9:43, 9:58, etc. Basically, it's my version of the Two Minute Warning where I am alerted when there is 2 minutes left till the bar/candle is completed. The best I found so far is - http://www.hiclock.com/ The pain is that I have to input EACH alert separately. I had to go in and put an alarm for 9:28. Then 9:43. Then 9:58. for the entire day. Once it's in, it's good b/c I can tell it on what days to run the alarms (even though I check Mon-Fri, I still get them on Sat for some reason). The nice thing about this setup is that I can go in and program the exact time to alert me; whereas I have found other 'egg timers' that will go off in 15 min intervals but only after I hit start. So, I have to hit the start button as close as possible to when I want it to start. Not a big deal, but it is nice to not have to do that. The other downside to hiclock is that it must use some serious memory or something to run such a simple alarm b/c when I does go off, that program actually freezes for 30-60 seconds. The alarm will come up but I cannot click close until it unfreezes. Happens w/ every single alarm so maybe it's a resource hog when an alarm goes off. I am also going to test - http://acapsoft.com/det.php?prog=GigAlarm According to the designer of this, I can set up what I need. I just have not had time to test it out. He has some nice screenshots there to give you an idea. It's very nice of you to do this for the group. I wish I could design stuff like this!

LINK TO AMAZON Jay - that link will take you to Amazon if you'd like to purchase there. Took me a bit to find it, so I copied the link here for anyone interested. Saves a little time b/c Amazon isn't the easiest site to navigate sometimes.

My old username and password works, but thanks! Glad to have it back!

It could be a tempting long James. I'd prefer it to have come down more, but the market waits for no man.

It's almost as if you could design a system around that information... hmmmm...... :hmmmm: Where's Walter when you need him!?!?

So far, Monday has gone according to plan. No real trend moves, just nice, easy bounces that are easy money-makers. As of 2:20pm EST we've had 2 real attempts to push price higher and the bears pushed it right back down. A test of the LOD (25.75) would be very favorable for the swing trade bearish position. We'll see if it can test that low here before the EOD.

Great questions. I would simply have been stopped on the 1st and looked to re-enter on the 2nd based on my trading style currently. Correct - another possible short, I did not put the arrow b/c it did not confirm (close below the low the following day). So if entering via our aggressive style, that would have been the 2nd short. Good eye. You got it! It would be nice to create small, close group of traders that are using the same ideas to make money together. It would probably require a move OFF of a public forum, but who knows where this could go. I know myself and James trade very similarly now and it would be nice to get a few others that are similar.

Oh yeah - if you are sending $ to DB for some nice 'thought' posts, then feel free to send 25% of the profits booked on this trade in real-time. Send me a PM for my email address to send profits too.

What exactly is 'a lot of heat early in the trade'? The 2nd trade (1st one stopped) had practically ZERO heat. I'll put a chart up below for your viewing. I would consider an exit at 4:14pm EST on Friday due the weekend. Since I am not swing trading live, it's hard to say for sure what to do here. There doesn't have to be. As my initial trade plan showed, there were multiple exit zones. See chart below. And here's the chart: According to the chart: 1) We'd like to see 1320 retested. Expect a bounce here unless the bears can really push it through. 2) As with most WRB's - expect some pause on Monday due to a long, prolonged move the preceding day. If you look at the above chart and find the WRB's, you'll see most times that the next day or two is what we define as 'chop' or indecision. It's common after a big move that we see a day or two of everyone taking a breath and seeing where the next move is. As a any day-trader will attest to, that is very common on the intraday moves. 3) If 1320 can be broken, we have our choice of when/where to exit the trade. My concerns for holding the trade overnight at this point would be: 1) Holding into a weekend. 2) Holding after a nice red WRB. As we've seen too many times price will just chug along after an extended move like that. Therefore, closing the entire trade or most of it at MOC on Friday was a good play in my eyes. I'm a bit more cautious than some, esp on swing plays, so time will tell what the appropriate move should have been. But, no looking at hindsight charts here - all in real-time baby. Summary: ENTRY: 72.75 (AGGRESSIVE) OR 69.5 (CONFIRMATION) EXIT MOC: 35.50 PROFIT IF TAKEN AT MOC: +37.25 OR +34 $ BANKED IF MOC: $1862.50/CT OR $1700.00/CT (ALL FIGURES ARE GROSS) AS ALWAYS, PLEASE DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK BEFORE PLACING ANY REAL MONEY ON THE LINE. YES, HERE WAS A VERY PROFITABLE TRADE BUT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK LIKE THAT.

Ok, nice trade there. Will run the #'s later, but the bearish follow through I was looking for finally took place today. I would MOC that trade b/c of the weekend. The charts do not say that, it's a personal preference.

[VSA] Volume Spread Analysis Part II
brownsfan019 replied to Soultrader's topic in Volume Spread Analysis
I guess I don't understand how you can't tell if you should go long or short. That's about as elementary as trading can get - long, short, no action - and throughout this thread there are examples of people not sure which one to do! And it's all about VSA. From an outsiders view, that would say this VSA thing isn't nearly as clear as some may think it is, ESPECIALLY in real-time. And in the end, that's all that counts. After the fact charts do not put real $$$ into an account.- 2244 replies

[VSA] Volume Spread Analysis Part II
brownsfan019 replied to Soultrader's topic in Volume Spread Analysis
Ok, this is just priceless. First - no responses from anyone even taking a stab at whether you go long or short here. Second - the fact that the question is - should I go long or short here - just emphasizes how arbitrary this VSA stuff really is. It's either a long or short and it should not be hard to figure out which one IMO. I have NO IDEA the answer to your riddle, but it sure is entertaining to read yet another post in this thread about whether to go long or short... This VSA thread is quite the interesting read from afar. Seems like a lot of the blind leading the blind... is anyone actually using this stuff in real-time? If so, where are they at? I just can't get over the 'do I short or go long here' posts... If that's difficult, good luck managing your stops and profit targets.- 2244 replies

With a little over and hour left, the short is making more money! Current price: 37.00 = +35.75 OR +32.5 PTS I personally would not feel comfortable holding over the weekend, so an MOC on most/all of contracts would be appropriate here. Congrats to anyone that took this gorgeous short opportunity! Note - this was the follow through that we were looking for. It took 4 days to get there, but the move we wanted appeared in a gift from GE this morning. But, this damn candlestick analysis can't possibly work.

Oh yeah - no bugs. So we have to find somewhere that is about 70 or so year round, little humidity and no bugs.

Wow, you got snow. Just comfortable here. A fund that is run where it is about 70 degrees all the time and comfortable sounds perfect.
