Going to Consult a Programmer - Advice Appreciated
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Automated Trading
The feedback has been great from my point of view, so I do appreciate all of it. As of now I've put this on the backburner as I examine more closely the possibility of focusing on a small number of trades, but larger size. If I go 100% this route (and pretty much there now) I really don't need to pay someone to program it. Reason being that I am looking at a work day of about 7am - 11am (at the latest) and seems silly to pour money into something that I think will be hard to program and with limited use. Now if I program it and package to sell for the bargain price of $10,000 or so, then maybe. -
Just figure it out FS. Geeze, cut the guy some slack.

A Program to Turn Computer on Autmatically?
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
Looks like I'll just have to make sure the computer gets turned on as soon as I get up so it has time to run. This particular laptop does not have the BIOS thing that I can change (or I did not see it). You would think something like this would just be a common feature that Windows has, guess not. I could see many people and businesses wanting a feature like this. And if you are not comfortable going into the BIOS, you won't be able to use it (if your computer can even support it to begin with). Bummer. I found one company that has a program that does this function, but the reviews on it are terrible and their own site is not up anymore, so I'm guessing it's no longer supported. Only found one though out there. -

And another old thread dug up from the grave... I will say this - some people spend some serious time around here finding old threads to breathe new life into. -

For sure. If trading did not pay as well as it does, there's no way I'd be here doing this. It is hard work and it is struggle at times, but if you do have that 'edge' or system that can make regular profits, it is hard to beat. I've actually begun to limit the amount of hours I spend per day trading for a number of reasons, but not withstanding, it is very difficult to do this day in and day out, open to close. That is very difficult. If I get some time Fri, I will get a thread up about this subject.

A Program to Turn Computer on Autmatically?
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
On the laptop that I would like to do this on, I have to push a button down in order to turn the laptop on. Hopefully that is what you mean. If so, does that mean I can try the timer idea? -
Took a look at the daily after today's strong bearish move and we definitely crashed through some previous support today. Longer view: Up close view: ========== Is 1200 on the horizon for the ES? I could see it. A little support here @ 1240 to get through, but not much else in the way. Note - I love that sell on the orange arrow in the first chart - great candle pattern right at the 200 SMA on the daily. As you can see, doesn't happen that often but what a nice sell via basic candlestick analysis @ the 200 SMA.

Thanks MC. I'll have to reboot them and see if I can do that or not. Fingers crossed. -
Anyone know of a program that will start a computer at a set time? I've read via google searches that it might be possible in the BIOS, but not being that savvy, I was hoping to find a program that can do it. If you know of any programs that will turn your computer on at a set time, please post here. While freeware is nice, not necessary. Thanks!

I agree FS - why it's moving is of no concern to me either, just as long as it moves. You normally use $1.00 stops there? A bit much for my tolerance.

That's actually an interesting comment FW. I've thought about that too, but to be honest, I think I will always trade while it makes me money. If I am making a good living from trading, I plan to continue to do it (hopefully a long time) EVEN IF it becomes a job. Why? Nothing else can pay me as well for so little work.

Nice thread guys, good conversation here. There's some similar thread in the the candlestick corner with finding s/r using reaction levels.

I noticed that too that some sites have different numbers for pivots.

Every year I do a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and it's time to ask my friends at TL to consider a donation to this personal cause. My significant other lost her father to blood cancer. It's a terrible and unfortunate thing for any family to go through. I ask you to take a few minutes and consider a donation to our cause. The dollar amount is irrelevant. Every little bit helps and would be appreciated. ============================================== CLICK HERE to go straight to April's donation page. ============================================== For more information about the Light the Night walks, click here. Thank you for your consideration. Note - if you want, please put a TL on your donation so I know where the donation came from. If there's enough interest here, I'll do something for the top donator.

Balancing Your Life and Surviving the Learning Curve
brownsfan019 replied to RobinHood's topic in General Discussion
As a follow up to this post, most days are done by 11am now at the latest. Today for example, I was done at 8:35am EST. Took a short around 7am and thanks to some news, brought the thing down right into my profit target (actually moved past it now). I have a new saying in my trading career - I Love One and Done Days. :thumbs up: If I get some time, I'll try to start a new thread about this new stage in my career. We'll call it something like 'enjoying the fruits of your labor' or something. -
Excellent post. 2.5 YEARS and starting to make money now. There's nothing special about that other than it's real life. The guy is being honest and sharing his story for everyone. You cannot count your success in MONTHS in this business. It's counted in YEARS.

This thread fs pretty much says it all.
-
You are hoping to conquer trading w/in a few months? My suggestion - save yourself some aggravation, time and money - quit now. This business takes YEARS and YEARS to even get somewhat good at it RH. If you expect to come in and dominate a business that is swimming with finely tuned sharks, good luck. You are better off learning how to play poker and find tables w/ loose players than trying to beat the markets in months. But, that is the beauty of this game - the entry requirements are so few, yet so few will actually stand a chance.
