  1. Going to finish up a reformat here soon and wanted to see what virus/spyware removal programs everyone here likes. List your favorites (w/ links if you have them). Thanks!
  2. That's just not true. As I stated earlier, Oil and Currency Futures do not move in tandom w/ the ES. Does it happen at times? Sure, EVERYTHING mimics the ES moves at some point in time.
  3. That's what happened James. The market opened at 930 and there was a big run up that did not last long and then came down swiftly. I can only imagine what it was like holding through that. First, your dom just stops taking orders. Then, you sit there wondering... And then at 930 it's off to the races. It was very interesting to watch as this does not happen often. Some pretty significant news event would need to occur to see this again. Very worthwhile being in front of the computer this morning to watch this in action as it unfolded.
  4. For the most part, indexes will look the same or very similar. Oil and currencies are the best option IMO to find something that could care less what the ES is doing, ESPECIALLY OIL.
  5. Inevitably someone will ask what happened. Just direct them to this thread.
  6. This does not happen often, watch the open if you are by your dom!!! Watch the RTH open here shortly.
  7. I think the ES just limited up... HOLY SH*T BATMAN. Don't even remember when I saw that last...
  8. Pre-market action this morning: Trade 1: decent move. Trade 2: wow. nice.
  9. The CL or 6E contract are worth looking at.
  10. Triple Witching An event that occurs when the contracts for stock index futures, stock index options and stock options all expire on the same day. Triple witching days happen four times a year on the third Friday of March, June, September and December.
  11. I see a hammer @ the EMA. My version of this idea is rather simple - candle pattern @ EMA after a retest/pullback. Key being the pullback part.
  12. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aq7MVYNcRHKY&refer=news Click link [Long Story] =============== It's very interesting to watch these financial behemoths become a thing of the past overnight. It's kind of sad to see these big names just come tumbling down. If nothing else we are witnessing history day in day out recently. Every day seems to be a 'play which financial giant is going to fall today'.
  13. It might be wise to do some reading on different forums, blogs, etc. about how moving averages work in identifying trends. The short of it is that they will nail the big move days but while you are attempting to avoid the chop, it may not be that easy. While trying to build your code, look at some charts and see how they look. Feel free to post screenshots here and some of us can provide feedback.
  14. So all you need is an indicator that tells you when there's a trend forming and when it's going to chop? That's easy but not sure how to post the code here, so I can't help. Sorry.
  15. IMO it doesn't matter when you enter this business. It's not timing the business it's time IN the business that matters. If you sat by and waited for the prime time to be trading, you'd never take the jump. There's ALWAYS a reason to not trade - too much volatility, volatility dried up, it's summer, it's winter, a holiday around the corner, oil is up, oil is down, the fed is raising rates, the fed is bailing out banks, the housing market is in the tank... You'll never find a perfect time to start trading.
  16. Note - this is exactly why I store everything on an external hard drive (well, most everything). I learned this lesson before and since then I have an external hard drive hooked up to a main desktop that is always running. Then I save pretty much everything to that hard drive and can easily unplug it and go if I need to. :thumbs up:
  17. Since I will be reformatting at least 1 computer, probably 2, just wondering if it's worth the time savings to purchase a XP SP3 disc. I have XP SP2 that came w/ the computers. Is it worth buying one to save time and do a clean install w/ SP3? If so, can you recommend any good sites to purchase from? A couple sites also said you need a pre-installation kit as well... What is that? Thanks everyone!
  18. Update - after googling till my eyes hurt, found 2 sites that helped. http://www.pcbanter.net/archive/index.php/t-91011.html http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1062279245 In the end I got into the computer but it will be reformatted shortly. What I did was rename the url.dll file (and subsequently the urlmon.dll), copy the clean .dl_ files, rename to .dll files. This computer is a Compaq and the files on their disk are .dl_ files (which took awhile to figure out). It's running but getting some .dll error messages on reboot, but I can at least get in and take what I need, which is not much. The main thing was getting into my Outlook and getting what I needed there which I am still working on as getting an error message there too...
  19. On one of my laptops that has not been used for a few weeks, I get the dreaded blue screen when booting up. The windows XP main screen thing comes up and then when it looks like it's going to go into windows, I get a blue screen that says something like: the image url.dll is possibly corrupt. check header checksum does not match. That is paraphrased b/c the blue screen does not last long. Then windows tries to reboot (never actually getting into the windows screen) and it does this over and over w/ no end in sight. Can I fix something on my end or is this a take your computer in type thing? Thanks!
  20. And that James is the key I think. I was there too - books, videos, etc. etc. Was it all part of the journey? I think so. 1) You read anything you can. 2) You begin your search for the grail. 3) Keep searching, b/c it's gotta be out there! 4) Maybe need to dig deeper to find it. 5) Might be time to quit since there is no grail and ATM machine readily available. 6) Those that keep pushing forward finally figure out that there is no grail; nor is there a need for one. What you need is a way to consistently pull money from the markets whether that is 50 trades a day or 1. You find yourself and find what works for you. What works for you, very well will not work for others; hence the reason those books, vendors, etc. may not have worked for you initially. 7) And then one day you might realize that you did find the grail (for you) but it doesn't 'feel' like a grail. It feels like a job well done after years of hard work.
  21. Nice early morning drop here. I would say the initial trade worked or was stopped depending on stop placement. If stopped, a re-entry may have been valid. That part depends on the money management aspect of the system.
