Various Indicators (Squeeze,2FastMa's,etc)
brownsfan019 replied to Blu-Ray's topic in Trading Indicators
Glad at least one other person sees the amount of work BluRay is doing. I don't even use any of the stuff he's got all over the place here, but it's easy to see how much work all of this is. Some people though will always ask for something and give nothing. And then they'll just find another person to pester and attempt the same thing over and over again. I understand that you don't want to purchase an indicator package for $5000 or something, but would giving BluRay a nice $25 or $50 donation make a difference to your pocketbook? If it does, then you should not be trading. It's just too easy to see here that he's busy, has a lot on his plate (see his post) yet the requests just keep coming and coming. Me, Me, Me!!! Free, Free, Free, Free!!!! -
Various Indicators (Squeeze,2FastMa's,etc)
brownsfan019 replied to Blu-Ray's topic in Trading Indicators
So is anyone paying BluRay for all the work he does here and shares for free? You guys are pummeling him w/ requests of do this, do that, do this... I'd bet that not one person has offered to compensate him for all his work and time. In case you have not noticed, he's pretty much the ONLY programmer we have here at TL. Best to not burn that bridge. -
Also, this thread will show you how to post charts directly in the thread so it's easier and quicker to see.

Here's my view of the NQ blue: I'm sure BB would say otherwise on a few of them, but I am looking for a pullback/retest of the 20 EMA with a bullish candle pattern to get long.

Keep the ideas coming everyone if you have them!

If you do a lot of screenshotting and annotating for your personal records (which I would strongly recommend) consider getting SnagIt to make your life so much easier. One the best programs I have ever found and could not live w/o.

Nice job RH!

Good to know not just me then. You would think something so simple would be fine, but I guess not. Not sure how many browsers I feel like testing though. I like FF outside of some issues. I have Opera on this computer but have used it once. Haven't checked out chrome yet either...

I think my FireFox is possessed sometimes. Here's what it does now after upgrading to v3. I use the shortcut buttons thing at the top so I can get to websites I view often easily, TL being one of them. Since upgrading to v3 of FF, the button for TL randomly changes to other websites. If I click it, it still comes to TL but it does not have the TL logo until I come to the site. Very, very odd. It only happens to TL and ET. That's it. Here's an example from today: Should look like this: Today looked like this: There's no rhyme or reason when it happens. Sometimes happens most of the day and then won't happen for days. I'm guessing there's an issue in FF somewhere, but no clue how to fix. No luck via google searches b/c I'm not exactly sure what to search for. Thanks for any help.

Good start Rabid, thanks; but I am looking for details. I would like broker names, etc. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum. Hopefully you'll feel more comfortable sharing over time.

The forex bug has bitten me again (not sure why) but got a few noob questions that I am sure I've asked before but it may be easier to ask again vs. hunting those old threads down. Plus it may help a few others along the way. BROKERS We've all heard about the bucket shops, erroneous fills, stop running, etc. I've also read on TL that there are reputable firms that will not do this. Please provide names, websites, etc. FEES/COMMISSIONS Contrary to the 'no commission' pitch you hear, obviously the broker is getting paid. So what is best - pay the spread or look for a broker that charges a commission rate? I'm pretty sure I've read on here that some broker(s) do offer a commission type charge (like futures) vs. a spread. SPREADS If I go the spread route, who has the best spreads? PLATFORMS I don't need anything special. I like the MetaTrader charting, but order entry (on the chart at least) is abysmal. What other good platforms exist? I remember someone mentioning NinjaTrader had something, which would be nice. DIFFERENCES FROM FUTURES MARKETS What differences would an experienced futures trader see if trading fx? VOLUME/LIQUIDITY This one has me a bit confused. I know how liquid the fx markets advertise they are, but looking at my FXDD demo, I don't see it. Example: In that screenshot of a 5 min chart, no volume numbers exceed 500. But I'm not even quite sure what that volume is representing. I'm used to shares/contracts. So when it says "112" - what is the 112? NEWS TRADING I've also heard about issues trading around news announcements. How does that work? Can't trade? Huge spreads? TAXES How are profits taxed to US traders? That's probably a good start. Thanks for the help everyone.

Thanks zdo! That's the kind of stuff I need to know.

I know we have some experience FX traders around here, and I'd appreciate any feedback on this post in the candlestick corner. I know futures like the back of my hand, but know very little about FX. Take a look, stop by and say hi. I'm just looking for anyone w/ good experience to chime in about the markets, how they operate, what to look for, etc. I do not need or want a critique of the actual idea being discussed as a previous thread has shown the entry technique has merit. But I would like assistance from the standpoint of helping the readers of the CC (I think some just read the CC :o) about how the FX markets work. If need be, we'll create a separate thread but for now we'll keep it together.

Some charts from 9-29-08 All charts are from the FXDD MetaTrader demo software. If I were to pursue this further, I would need to investigate FX brokers as Open ECry does not have an FX division (yet). I believe these are the main pairs, but could be wrong. If there are other pairs I should watch, please let me know.

This thread was mainly focused around the ES and other stock indexes, I'd like this thread to be about the same trading premise but on Forex. Just in case we get someone new to this thread, here's a quick review of the chart setup: 1) 5 Minute Candlestick Charts 2) 20 EMA (exponential moving average) 3) That's it. And the entry setup: 1) A pullback to the 20 EMA 2) A candlestick pattern* * candlestick pattern(s) to be used is up for debate. BearBull suggests using hammers and inverted hammers only; whereas I am open to most patterns. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: The idea presented here is a possible ENTRY idea. As discussed in a few threads here on TL, there are many, many different ways to exit a trade. WHY FOREX?: A few reasons: 1) I know very little about forex, so hopefully this thread could get some experienced forex traders chiming in about the markets and what to expect. I'll do my best to post some charts and we'll see how it looks. 2) It is said the forex can trend more than indexes, so maybe this entry system might work better than on the indexes (just a guess at this point). 3) I'm all about leveraging my time. If I can watch a couple indexes and a few currency pairs and trade where the primo setups are, that has my interest.

Could simply be iceberg orders being implemented. Iceberg Order This is a large single order that has been divided into smaller lots, usually by the use of an automated program, for the purpose of hiding the actual order quantity. When large participants, such as institutional investors, need to buy and sell large amounts of securities for their portfolios, they can divide their large orders into smaller parts so that the public sees only a small portion of the order at a time—just as the ‘tip of the iceberg’ is the only visible portion of a huge mass of ice. By hiding its large size, the iceberg order reduces the price movements caused by substantial changes in a stock’s supply and demand.

BG, Your options IMO are to pay to learn from a newsletter, book, etc. or do it yourself and see what you can figure out for 'free'. In some way, shape or form you will pay - either money or time.

Interesting there daedulus. You say: And then go on to say: And the attached screenshot shows bollinger bands and RSI being used, which I believe are indicators. So are indicators "nonsense" or is it really that "easy" to make 8 figures and use them? Kinda confused there.

Oh yeah - sometimes the trades are not an immediate profit. Requires patience at times. If you read the entire thread, you'll see bearbull mention this a few times. The entry system is valid, but how you manage your trades, emotions and fears is up to you.
-
The 5 min is fine. 1 min too choppy. This is easily a one and done system looking for the morning volume surges to help. If not, $ management becomes vital.

PERFECT. But to clean that chart up, all you need is the 20 EMA.I have the 200 SMA on mine (blue line) as a reference point. Example: ================= The next step blue is exits. It appears here you covered near the HOD and in this trade, that was an almost perfect exit. Some days covering at the nearest reaction point (in this example the HOD) is a really good exit method. Sometimes, price will blast past your exit and you'll think... got out too soon. But that's part of the game. Glad to see you here Blue. I hope this thread can at least give you a new lease on your trading life.

2 Year Reflection on the Markets and Trading
brownsfan019 replied to Soultrader's topic in Beginners Forum
That's what I've been saying for awhile James - this mysterious 95% could include anyone and everyone that has bought a stock, that tried trading the ES for a day, etc. etc. The professionals and business owners are lumped in w/ the guy that has $2500 and it going to bet it all on black in the ES....
