5-16-09 Took a few trades to get there, but got an acceptable profit for the day.

cow - what you are referring to is what has been called a Wide Range Body (WRB). If you search on this forum or ET for wide range body, you'll find a few threads out there. Here is a thread that was popular at one point. If you want to take it a step further, contact NihabaAshi who sells a course that deals w/ WRBs last time I checked. It's been awhile, so double check that. IMO there is value in WRBs; however, as you'll see if you read that thread, how you interpret them can be rather difficult - sometimes those WRBs give you excellent entry/exit points and other times they don't do much. If you can decipher when to use them and when to ignore, that alone could be very powerful. Personally, I never got there. I am observant of WRBs now, but they are not a big factor in my plan.

Yeah BF - what he said!

James - question/favor if I may - does your platform have any report tool that shows the trades in terms of dollars? I have no idea looking at your screenshots whether you made or lost money.

I agree w/ this 100%. Good way to sum it up.

3000 Posts ... when Do I Get My T-shirt?
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in General Discussion
I was just surprised how many posts that is. -
So much for real-time posting of trades...

No problem Eiger. I also liked how he narrows his universe of stocks rather quickly and simply by looking for the stocks that are on the move. If I was to trade stocks again, that would be the approach I would take as well - look for the ones moving on the day and ride them as long as you can. That is one major advantage of trading stocks vs. futures. With futures, you are 'stuck' in the market(s) that you watch whereas in stocks you can go where the action is. For example, there are plenty of days where the ES/NQ is doing nothing - almost flat-lining. During that same time, there's a good chance a handful of stocks are on the move for the day.

I just noticed that I crossed 3000 posts tonight. Just wondering when I get my TL t-shirt?

In this post, Thales shared that he uses freestockcharts.com for his charting and screening. Tonight I was playing w/ it and for being free (pretty sure it's all free) and it's not too bad if you want to look at stock charts for free w/ a basic set of indicators. For a free charting service that has some scans and indicators, it looks decent during my first run through. Thanks to thales for sharing.

There are some great posts in the P/L thread, but it's easy for stuff to get lost. This post from Thalestrader is a look at how a stock trader structures his day. I wanted to highlight this post b/c Thales constantly cranks out impressive numbers on the p/l thread. I asked Thales how he sets up his day since the universe of stock is so large. His response was: We don't have many stock traders here that post, but Thales was kind enough to give a look into his day.

Excellent work and setup Thales! What software are you using? I like the look. Also - I started this thread to help any stock traders on the forum.

5-13-09 Nice trading on the 6E today. Actually missed another juicy setup or would have pushed this over $1k on the day today. Bonds = net zero NQ = loss on day When I get a little more time I'm going to discuss using a lower timeframe to time my entries better.
-
Thales - very impressive on your stock trades! I'm curious - how do you screen for trade ideas? That was always my issue w/ stocks - the universe is so big that you inevitably miss some good ones. If you want to share, I'm all ears. If not, I understand.
-
Fair enough. Just curious if the discussion here is being used in trading. I appreciate your candor and honesty. That's a rare trait in this business.
-
I see. In the interest of fair disclosure, do you trade this system yourself w/ real money? Obviously there's a little more consideration to be given to those that practice what they preach. I ask b/c there are some guys out there that like to chat about trading but don't actually do it (or cannot produce any evidence of actually doing it). I'm sure you understand the question.

This is a delicate subject that I've decided to stay away from. As DB pointed out, some threads are allowed to exist w/ links and others get punished. Currently there is no set in stone rule that is followed. It might exist, but it is not being followed - which of course leads to confusion. There are 'active' members that post links to stuff they have - DB's book, Eiger's website, 868's blog, Walter's website, etc. - all of that is posted here in some fashion. Is it 'wrong'? I don't know. But w/o a fixed rule that is enforced, it appears every thread is up for debate.
-
It's rather easy actually - you share how your day went w/ your trading and can provide screenshots of your blotter as well. Fairly straight forward. The thread is mainly used by those that trade and looking for extra motivation.

Personally, I don't have the time to post live trades on the forum, which is why I started this thread that you are welcome to join us on. I know others chat about the live market in the TL chat room (click on chat at the top).

Question directed to OP.

What kind of liquidity do you need in order to trade?
