Router Having Sporadic Outages or Hangups
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
Good stuff guys, as always. If you couldn't tell, I'm not nearly versed in this stuff as some of you so at this point I'm thinking new router (to at least eliminate that as a possible issue). Before I do that though, will be updating the software and such as recommended here. Going to poke around google as well to see what I might find about this being a MSFT conflict issue. For some reason that would not surprise me. -
BR - for those of us slower ones out here, mind explaining what that chart is showing?

Router Having Sporadic Outages or Hangups
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
As a matter of fact, yes. I am running XP on all computers and all computers recently had a bulk of updates done. Any links you can direct me to? Thanks -
This is perhaps the best thread on TL if one is willing to spend some time here. Thales gives some great advice w/o a bunch of gibberish, confusing and/or misleading comments which you can find elsewhere. Excellent thread Thales. Hope your trading is going well (I'm sure it is).

Router Having Sporadic Outages or Hangups
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
Ant - I will do my best to answer but be prepared for some I know enough of this stuff to be dangerous but obviously not as advanced as you've presented here. Let me know what you think. How do you determine that the Netgear router is hanging? My internet just stops working on all the computers I have here, which currently is 5 or so. If I click IE or FF it can't connect and gives me an error. Are you pinging directly from the router to the internet or are you pinging from a PC connected to it? I use the router wirelessly and hard-wired directly to the router, which is then connected to the modem. Hope that's what you're asking. Are all your connected devices losing connectivity (i.e., have you tried other router ports)? As it currently stands, everything loses connectivity but I have not tried adjusting different ports for the hard-wired computers (which is only 2). Run "ipconfig" from a command prompt and verify that an IP address is still assigned to your PC. How do I verify that? Is the router getting an IP address from your ISP? Check your network connection on router. How do I check that? Can you ping between PCs/devices directly connected to the router? Not sure how to do that... You may want to try to do a "tracert www.yahoo.com" to verify that it's not getting through your router, if you haven't tried it already? Once again.... how do I do that? Have you tried restoring to the router defaults and reconfiguring? No I have not and at this point, that's probably not a bad idea. Only question is how to do that... Sorry I'm not more help, but like I said, I can get around and manage my day-to-day stuff fine, but as soon as something breaks then I have to teach myself what the issue could be. Thanks for your assistance. -

Router Having Sporadic Outages or Hangups
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
I thought it was the ISP initially too but the problem is resolved immediately if I unplug the router (not the modem) and plug it back in. When this has occurred before and it was on the ISP end, I had to unplug the router and modem. As for a new ISP, that's not an option here. If I want 'high speed' it's Time Warner or bust. Just the location I am in. I looked at U-verse (which is available) but it has so many restrictions on TV usage that it wouldn't work here. I might get them as a backup internet only provider though. -
Nice work going here guys. Looks like a close nit group of regular posters. Keep it up and I'll hopefully be joining you soon. Needed a breather from trading and the forums while the weather was so nice here. Keep up the great work everyone!

I am using a Netgear router that has been running like a champ for a few years now. Recently I've been having these internet hangups where my internet will go out for a few seconds to an hour or more. Initially I thought it might be the internet service itself since it's had hangups before but over the weekend when it went out, I just unplugged the router and plugged it back in and it came back up quickly. I repeated this again later. So it appears to me that the router is suddenly just hanging up or freezing. Like I said, I did the 'unplug, plug back in' normal fix but it's not fixing it this time. Any other suggestions from our tech guys or is it time to find a new router? If it is time to just scrap this one, what are reliable brands/models to look at? thanks

If you have any DVDs from Tim Sykes to sell, drop me a note. Getting an itch to trade a bit in the quick flier stocks again, so just looking to check his stuff out. PM me directly if you have any of his DVDs to sell. Originals only.

Glad to see the thread still going. I'm lurking around once again...

Ain't that the truth. Some even attempt to pose as a guru on forums on the net b/c it's easy and people want to believe in something. When the said guru is pressed for evidence of knowing what they are talking about, the question is quickly dismissed w/ some gibberish. Moral of story - be very careful who you define as a 'guru' to you and make sure the person providing this 'advice' actually knows what they are talking about.

I would also suggest that instead of worrying about whether to chase or not, figure out WHY you are missing your ideal entries and then fix it so that chasing is a non-issue. I realize that's easier said than done but I would focus on working your entries better to minimize or eliminate a chasing issue.

You guys do what you want here. If it's helping, then do it. I have no concerns; nor do I plan to be an overzealous moderator that is seen elsewhere around here. Plus, it's the wknd, so I guess it's ok to stray a little bit from the initial topic. Have a good one guys, I'll be back at it in the foreseeable future. Been nice to take a little breather from checking TL daily and posting.
-
You answered your own question. Do not chase unless you feel like getting terrible fills that create even larger losses than what was planned.

Here's a thread I stated on the subject of bond trading. As for books dedicated to the subject, I've never seen anything worthwhile. Broker: Open ECry Margins: Depends on your broker. If intraday trading, OEC's ZB intraday margin is $2160, meaning for every $2160 in your account, you can trade 1 ZB contract. Margins may also be negotiated with brokers, but keep in mind the ZB can move and quickly so don't overextend yourself in the beginning.

Good to see thales and others keeping the thread going! Not sure when I'll be back at it hard again, just taking a little break from it all. Keep it going guys!

Anyone Tried Gunnar Optiks Glasses?
brownsfan019 replied to brownsfan019's topic in Tools of the Trade
BF - I agree, I'm not 100% sold on them either. Hoping someone else can chime in. As for prescriptions, you can get them w/ a prescription from a doc's office that carries them. I need my Rx to see far, so I don't wear my glasses while trading. -
Has anyone tried using gunnar optik glasses while trading? Just wondering what kind of results you see w/ them and I got an email from buy.com that now has a few styles in stock w/ a nice discount - http://www.buy.com/merch/q/loc/101/store/1/querytype/comp/dcii/2/mfgid/342973/mfgnm/gunnar+optiks/showall.html

And provide any proof that this thing works? What? That's blasphemy around here. No need for any proof whatsover.

I'm taking a little time off so won't be posting much here for a bit. Just need a breather from trading, forums, etc. I hope you guys keep the thread going and I'll be sure to see how it's doing when I am on TL.

Staying and getting in shape is important diablo, I agree 100%. I started p90x to change things up and I know quite a few that have done very well with it. Normally the infomercial type stuff is a turnoff for me, but knowing actual people that have done it and gotten great results sold me. Example - a guy I play poker with lost over 40lbs doing it. And I saw it with my own 2 eyes. Here's what I like about the program: > You work your entire body throughout the week > You do muscle building, cardio, stretching, and balance > Every 30 days, the program changes (muscle confusion as they call it) > It's FREAKIN HARD - the first week was brutal, but I felt great after > It's different - not the same thing over and over and over again Like I said, if I didn't know anyone that had done it, I probably wouldn't have bothered but after seeing some real results, it got my attention.

I just completed week 1 of my first go at p90x. If you're not sure what p90x is, search google as there's a bunch of stuff on it. Basically it's an intense workout regime that lasts for 90 days. Just wondering if there are any other p90x'ers on board - past or present - to get a discussion going. I believe there was 1 in the chat room when I visited at some point, but can't recall who it was. And if you are looking to get into shape and/or try a different workout, check this thing out. It's pretty intense and an all-around great full body workout.

No trades today and done for the week. Have a good one guys.
