  1. Gabe - the best screen capture program I have found is SnagIt. It's 50 bucks and does so much stuff - much more than just screen capture. Very useful tool I use in my trading.
  2. There are 2 main ways people trade: 1) Fundamental Analysis 2) Technical Analysis You are asking about fundamentals, which is not very popular around here. That's not to say you can't make money learning how to read p/e ratios, sharpe ratios, etc. etc. but if that is what you are after, you won't find much info here. If you want to learn technical analysis, then start clicking around and see what wets your appetite.
  3. You guys know that I'm not too fond of spammers - direct or stealth. So far, this thread has provided some trading ideas that someone could take and work with. Up to this point, the OP has provided info that could be useful and a retail trader could work with.
  4. 10-20-09: +$100.00 Really poor exit on this trade. Not too happy with how that one turned out. Note - I've been tracking the Russell 2000 mini (traded on ICE) and I might be doing more index trades there vs. NQ/ES. I'll explain more in a post later, but just a little update for anyone following along.
  5. I was playing with audacity last night, should be able to do what I need fairly easily.
  6. This 'weekly' analysis isn't quite weekly.
  7. 10-19-09: -$59.37 slower day here for me.
  8. 1) Double click your bars/candlesticks on your chart. 2) Under MISC you can set your own custom session. Just enter the start and end time. Done.
  9. Seems like there's a lot of bears around the forums and message boards, but the market just keeps going higher and higher. Personally, I could care less if it goes up or down as long as it's going somewhere.
  10. 10-16-09: +$53.12 That's right, 53 bucks. Read 'em and weep. 1 trade today on gold. I took it on the mini as I wasn't sure if I need to keep some margin up for other trades. For whatever reason, the big sized gold contract has big margin at OEC. In hindsight, much more profitable if taken on the big size. Have a good wknd folks.
  11. Did some testing on the OEC platform w/ my wav files. They work, but not exactly how I want them at this point. In the platform there is a repetitive or reminder feature on the alerts but those are not working the way I envisioned using them. So I'll need to create 1 wav file that is long and repeats w/in itself vs. telling the platform to repeat the alert. I need to do 2 things: 1) Make a long wav file where the voice is repeated along with some sounds added to it as tiki did. 2) If possible, make the voice sound louder. I am running this on a computer that I also run a music stream from and the voice was overpowered by the music. So I'll need to play with audacity to see if I can increase that volume and/or look at the sound card settings to see if there's anything I can adjust in there. I was on audacity's site and looks like you can take 2 wav files and combine them into 1 if I was reading it right. From there I'll just need to add the voice wav file a couple times. We'll see... if anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears.
  12. Sounds good - happened again just now. Make sure you close FF completely and out of TL. When you come back, click a thread and click thanks on the first post you see. Don't do any other clicking. See if that does it.
  13. Yeah, I want it specific to each market so I know by the alert what chart needs pulled up. And the only way I can think of to do that is make a wav for each one. I could assign a specific beep to each market and then train myself to know what beep corresponds to what market, but that seems like a lot of work.
  14. So I poked around the internet, downloaded some freeware and the best sounding voices were: AT&T Labs Text-to-Speech: Demo You can tell they are robotic in nature, which is fine with me, but also you can understand what the voice is saying. Attached is my first go at this and all I did was make a file that says the market symbol. That's it (for now). I'll need to learn how to add sound to this -- is that done through audacity or another program? Maybe tiki or tams will know. I plan to use these on the alerts I make for OEC trader and have them repeat a few times since the audio part is very small at this point. ESv1.wav GCLv1.wav GGCv1.wav MINI GOLDv1.wav MINI GOLDv1a.wav NQv1.wav NSEAv1.wav YMv1.wav ZBv1.wav ZFv1.wav ZNv1.wav ZSv1.wav ZSv1a.wav ZWv1.wav ZWv1a.wav
  15. James - this could be something on my end, but when I first come to TL and find a thread and click thanks, nothing happens. If I click to another part of the forum and then come back, it then works. It's odd, just seems to not want to work the very first time I click it when coming back to TL. Anyone else experience that or just over here? Running Firefox.
  16. I agree that the phrase 'price action' is tossed around forums as the current gotta have it phrase. For me, price action means what I'm seeing on my charts. I use basic candlestick charts and moderate the candlestick corner, have my levels I'm looking for and that's it. Great 2nd part ... Personally, I'm a 'flexible price action trader'. I like to refer to it as FPAT. All kidding aside, when price reaches my target area, I'm looking to ride the wave - up or down. That means sometimes I get tossed around a bit until it decides where it wants to go, but usually I can be flexible enough to ride the wave of volume to the next destination. In other words, when my timing is right on (like today's grain trades) I'm fading OR going with the breakout and it's 1 trade and done. Other days, I might have to fire a few bullets before I hit my target. But the key is finding an area where price will hopefully decide where it's going and quickly. Chop is the worst thing that can happen to me, so I have to find areas where I believe price will not stay long before taking off in some direction. That's partly why I'm fairly particular about my entry points and also why I monitor 5+ markets at the same time b/c I'm looking for a particular setup. Usually these areas produce quick movements as the result of volume entering the market, which I assume is the bigger players defending the zone ... or a whole bunch of us little guys ganging up at the same time. In the end, we have no idea if we are with or against the 'smart' money, but I just assume that if price is moving the direction I anticipated, then I found the smart money guys.
  17. Thales - did you scrap the EMA pullback system? I can't remember verbatim right now, but I believe you had a 20EMA and played pullbacks to that.
  18. Yes, I read the 'price action' at s/r levels. That's pretty much all I do. And for that, I don't need or use the tape or trying to find big orders. The big orders are there and it's fairly obvious (on most days).
  19. Tiki - what did you use to make yours?
  20. Chris - your loss from yesterday was on the ZB - why the ZB? Thought you were only ES. Just curious.
  21. If you believe in support/resistance trading then nothing has changed w/ this data change from the CME. The bulls will still defend support and the bears will still defend resistance. Of course the name of the game is defining s/r levels that work. Personally this data change did nothing to affect my trading - good or bad.
  22. I'm ok w/ that depending on how it sounds. Do you know of any programs in particular to check out? Yes, I can google it, but I'm asking if you know of any particular ones.
  23. 10-15-09: +$412.50 Some days I think I should just trade the grains.
  24. I think what Tams meant to say was you need a market replay function. I'm not sure if MC offers this or not, but that's what you are looking for.
