Discussion on Volume, UrmaBlume Wanted
brownsfan019 replied to Predictor's topic in Technical Analysis
Pat - you in the business of being a vendor now I see? Quite a 180 turn from what you used to say around here. For awhile the company line was you and your team would never consider selling these... And now, for a measly $1400 they can be yours! Gotta wonder why the big turn, right? They are working so well that now you can afford to give them away for $1400? Or... -
Very cool discussion guys. I've always enjoyed chatting about poker. I don't get to play nearly as much as I'd like, but it's always a good time. Also, nice job UB on that tourney! I've played a few that can last so many hours, it's a real grind at times that's for sure.

Interesting comments UB. I've always loved poker, but have not taken it much further than a hobby I really enjoy. I was surprised by playing only online when you are right in Vegas, but you highlighted some reasons for it. I like playing live from the standpoint of seeing people's reactions, talk, etc. I haven't tried rush poker out yet either but could be a great way to see a lot of hands quickly it sounds like. Wonder if some guys are multi-tabling rush?

Now Trade the Asia Pacific Markets at OEC

Nothing posted there that I can see. But I'll see what I can find about commissions on these products. -
Got this in email today, there's been people on different forums asking for this so here it is:

Crude Trader Journals, Threads, Blogs?
brownsfan019 replied to emini.ninja's topic in General Trading
Well, we could debate what pushes price around, but I think it's good advice to anyone looking to trade oil to watch it first. If you want action, you got it there. It was a bit slow the week of Xmas, but it's back in action and some great intraday moves for sure. -
The old format had a link you could click that would show all the threads that have new posts you have not visited -- is that still around by chance? If so, where? If not, can it come back?
-
I got one UB - having been on both sides (poker/trading) - what do you think is the easiest to make it in? I realize that may be relative, but you asked for questions and here's one. If an eager protege came up to you and said teach me, your choice, where do you start? And why?

Trading can be gambling or it can be a business - depends how you approach it. Just like there are professional poker players, there are also very casual players that go to the tables with nothing more than a prayer.

If you want to day trade, I believe with $5k you are limited to futures trading or forex trading. Both are leveraged products so make sure you understand how it all works before diving in head first. For futures, I use Open Ecry to trade from. For forex, you will have to ask a forex trader. At the very least make sure you understand how the platform you are using works. Nothing worse than doing your analysis, being correct in it but a platform issue gets in the way.

Keep it going Cory! Good luck in 2011!

Or when a trend is still in play and you can just hop on that train.

Crude Trader Journals, Threads, Blogs?
brownsfan019 replied to emini.ninja's topic in General Trading
The CL is a marvelous market to trade but you better watch it and paper trade it before going live. When she wants to move, she will move w/o any concern about giving you time to get in or where your stop is at. -
Open ECry's demo is really good imo. You get the same thing the live accounts get in terms of the software and the data on the demo's is good as well. It's free to try so worth a shot.

That's not necessarily true tams. Often I get a short or long signal that provides profit potential and by the time an opposite trade shows that trade has a lot less profit. You may argue that there's a system flaw but I am not interested in being in the market at all times. And your response is just that - always in. And for the average retail trader that means a lot of flip flopping back and forth that only gets your broker wealthy. I think exits will always be my personal crutch - like today in oil, WTF was that? I have a signal to buy at the lod but how on Earth could I have seen that move coming? Other days that exact same thing will yield my standard 20-25 ticks of profit and promptly retrace (and usually before a short signal will trigger).

As a trader that focuses on a few futures, I do not think you are at any disadvantage. You will learn your market(s) and start to get a feel for what is normal. Disagree. 1) You will have to develop a reliable screener that screens stocks in real-time (which then means developing a scanner that works). 2) As I said, you will get a feel for a market(s) and learn it's tendencies. I'm not sure you are forced to trade chop, that's dependent on your trading methodology. If you feel the need to trade for the sake of trading, then you may get caught into some chopping areas. With the stocks you are back to having a scanner that is consistent b/c there's no way you can manually flip through potentially thousands of charts. You should never trade anything - futures or stocks - w/o first watching a market(s) and learning how it moves. You should also know what can impact a market. Stocks can be impacted by unexpected news, commodities can be affected by unexpected events such as storms, etc. All markets will be affected by unexpected events so you have to prepare for that.

Yep, well said. There's no perfect answer here as you have to decide whether you want to grab your profits in chunks or get a bunch of small trades while waiting for that big one. I wish I had the answer for you but it's a personal/personality thing IMO. Some people love grabbing that huge profit and are ok with taking lots of little ones while you wait for it; others like myself like to grab it in chunks and try to accumulate enough chunks.

My is that divergences can work. Far from the holy grail so you either have to trade the all and have good risk mgmt in place or filter the losing ones out. Some considerations in trading divergences is that they will show in trending moves, how quickly do you want to get in or do you wait for confirmation... among many other things. Adding divergences to your trading plan can be addition but I think you'll need more than just divergences.

Drummond Geometry Techniques
brownsfan019 replied to rajanadar's topic in Swing Trading and Position Trading
I have one experience with Drummond that I can share - a trader friend of mine was heavily into it - the full bag of tricks that they sold. He was very persistent with the method and finally just had to give it up as it did not work for him. Obviously that does not mean it will not work for you, but that's a bit to share on it. Good luck! -
Hey guys just wanted to say glad to see this thread still alive and kicking. In particular - Cory - your charts are gorgeous and they look so smooth and like clock work! Keep up the great work!

Holiday sale on the movie if interested.

MMS - would be nice to get a more active trading thread(s) on oil. That 'other' site has a very active CL trading thread and it's actually pretty good. Very little off topic stuff. No idea how many around here trade it though so it may end up being you and me talking.

Anyone buy the movie? Just curious if it's worth it. Looks like it could be decent.
