Know your METS ! MET - The standard metabolic equivalent By Elizabeth Quinn, About.com Created: November 29, 2007 About.com Health's Disease and Condition content is reviewed by the Medical Review Board See More About: * fitness testing * exercise physiology * glossary Definition: MET or the standard metabolic equivalent is a unit used to estimate the amount of oxygen used by the body during physical activity. 1 MET = the energy (oxygen) used by the body at rest, while sitting quietly or reading a book, for example. The harder your body works during the activity, the more oxygen is consumed and the higher the MET level. * Activity that burns 3 to 6 METs is considered moderate-intensity physical activity. * Activity that burns > 6 METs is considered vigorous-intensity physical activity. Moderate-intensity physical activity refers to a level of effort that: * Causes an increase in breathing and/or heart rate * Results in three to six metabolic equivalents (METs) of effort * Burns 3.5 to 7 Calories per minute (kcal/min) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A word from TIKI, This is a Metabolic Equivalent Sheet from Heart.org I have also attached it below in pdf. http://www.heart.org/downloadable/heart/1176406256764PA_Intensity_table_2_1.pdf The purpose of knowing your METS is to understand the intensity at which you work. Knowing this is key ! You can swap activities in the list given the same METS for the same length of time and you will come close in caloric expenditure. You may have stepped on a treadmill at one time and noticed METS as a setting. Lets say you like to swim vigorously but cannot make it to a pool. You can select an activity from the METS list that would be close in MET expenditure. In this case the treadmill. You can enter your personal info into the treadmill then select 6 METS to start and not even select a speed or grade. The treadmill will do the rest. If you do not have access to any fitness equipment and normally workout, but may be traveling, you can select an activity in the same MET range and achieve the results to expend the equivalent amount of calories. Enjoy your workouts, your health and your life. It is yours, keep it strong in body and mind ! METS SHEET.pdf

Understanding VO2Max VO2max is the maximum amount of oxygen in millilitres, one can use in one minute per kilogram of body weight. Those who are fit have higher VO2max values and can exercise more intensely than those who are not as well conditioned. Excellent description here. VO2 Max These measurements are conducted in an environment such as a university where they have the correct equipment do do so. example here VO2 max test This site here gives a simple calculator to get an estimate. You must be in great shape to take these tests ! Bodybuilding.com - Calculate Your VO2 Max! I am posting some good information everyone can use to educate themselves to improve health, fitness, and quality of life. This information is supplied to increase your understanding of your body and how tests are performed to show levels of fitness. This is not to say you should perform these tests unless supervised by a professional and given the OK by your doctor. ! Have fun learning !

For anyone who wants to get to know how it all works down to the origination and insertion points of the muscles, tendons, bone here is a neat graphic. To the left you will see the skeletal structure that you select. Take the slider in that window and one by one you will layer the muscle- tendon tissue associated with the joint in the picture. You can also select the actions of the muscle to see the human image move to show the function. By selecting muscle menu you have the ability to select any part of the body you wish to see. Biceps Brachii Muscle muscle menu here http://www.getbodysmart.com/ap/muscularsystem/menu/menu.html If you want greater detail of just what muscle is, it can be found here. zdo that is some intense topic. The myofascial train is very complex. It is an excellent knowledge to obtain of the human body. Some reading material well known to the world of the myofascia is from Thomas W. Myers. In his book he expains the ' Myofascial Trains' of the human body. Rolfers are experts in the study of this field. Anatomy Trains, Thomas W. Myers, Book - Barnes & Noble Also to take this line out of its context Finally, and most importantly, conventional weight training can only be moved in two planes. This limited range of motion attempts to isolate particular muscles. That was form the ad or article you reprinted. This statement is false. We move in 3 planes all day long. When exercising we move in 3 planes easily. The body moves in the Saggital, Frontal and Horizontal planes. Any Physical therapist, Chriopractor, or decent Physical Trainer, can take a client through all of the planes in a workout. The planes are also joint specific. Some joints will only go in flexion and extension. At that point that individual joint is in the Saggital plane. When combining that joint with another joint action simultaneously, a different plane can be achieved. That statement is not from you, so I wanted to clarify this for any reader.

Spyder, In this example there is a Dominant Lateral Traverse in the 3rd position to build a Channel. 1) Is this a valid scenario ? 2) Does the Lateral in this scenario as drawn ( Dominant Lateral Traverse ) take precedence and complete the traverse ?

I use this free sound recorder from cnet downloads Free Sound Recorder - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com It is great and very simple to use. Play a track in the background on your computer, ipod, radio, anything, then play the voice at the same time and record the two together. You can place a mic in front of the speaker for simplicity and record the two sounds simultaneously. note: if you place commas, spaces, or periods to the voice simulator you can slow words, or letters. Sometimes play with the spelling of the word and it actually sounds better. Example: ( I didnt try this one, just an example ) beecaws instead of because. This gives you the idea but you can make a word stand out better by this approach. Play with the timing of the background and voice before you record. Then make some practice recordings till you get it down. Have fun with it. This is the cheap and easy way of editing. Greater detail you can run the background and voice into an mixer and give effects to the sounds and then edit them but that is a little more time involved and not really necessary.

Feedback on the presentation. I really enjoyed posting the pdf. So many things to know. . . and I was looking for answers on what to call a tape, or faster fractal taverse, and still be on the same page as everyone. I posted questions here not that long ago based on that. So really all the material in the pdf did was take everything we have done already, and nothing new at all ( build a faster fractal from what we called tapes, FF building a traverse, traverse builds a channel) and try to give some of these segments a name that I, and at times others question. ( traverse or tape ? no longer faster fractal ? and the tapes that built the FF ?) I know the " goat ". It was very recently within the past few weeks Jack mentioned in a quote what he built a channel from, and the names he gave the segments ( bbt, tape, traverse ). It was great to see there was a way everyone could be on the same page. So it was something I felt could be animated in a few pages and post for all to view it as JH quoted. I wish it to be helpful. Please know I have studied everything the past few years here and know the same material as everyone. ( after missing NYC probably less ! ) This was a great way to begin to help everyone so we may be on the same page when discussing the price volume relationship. I did not create these names in any way, they originated from JH and his quote was re-posted here http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/34/price-volume-relationship-6320-83.html#post77657 So I cannot take credit for the terminology, but it would have been cool to come up with all of this. Hope you enjoyed it.

This is a power point slide based on the construction off BBT's, Tapes,Traverse, and finally Channel. I share this in hopes to bring good healthy discussion, and all to enjoy. This was reviewed for content before posting to ensure it would beneficial. Thank You Spyder. Channel Constuction JH -Spyder.pdf

This is a quote from JH regarding bbt's, tapes. traverses, and channels _______________________________________________________________________ Quote from jack hershey: ...What is letting you hit the snooze button is the "very quiet" that is assembling itself. The "channel long' that follows is not going to be a "show" or "tell" to many people at all. It will just take 3 traverses, 9 tapes, and 27 BBT's plus some CP4 stretching and tweaking. end quote. __________________________________________________________________________- So here Jack is explaining that is takes . . . 1) 27 - building block tapes ( I am taking it that a BBT is the smallest tape possible as 2 bar ) a) dom bbt - non dom bbt -dom bbt = 3 bbt's and they in turn build 1 dominant, or 1 non dominant tape. 2) 9 - Tapes a) 3 bbt's build 1 tape ( tape = a dominant segment, a non dominant segment, and a final dominant segment ) to complete a set of sequences for a tape. 3) 3 - Traverses a) There are 3 tapes to complete a full set of sequences to build the traverse.. dominant- non dominant - dominant. b) A completed traverse is built of 3 tapes, or 9 bbt's ( 3 tapes of 3 bbt's each. ) Combining all the above, will complete the below . . . 4) Channel - completed and built from: a) 3 traverses ( dominant, non dominant , dominant ) in turn are built from . . . b) 9 tapes ( 6 dominant, 3 non dominant ) in turn are built from . . . c) 27 Building block tapes ( 18 dominant , 9 non dominant ) Thank you to JH post is to help those who have recently begun this work, also to highlight the bbt's

bbt's = building block tapes . If anyone may not have come across the term that is what it refers to, and it originated from jh in some of his more recent posts in past months.

Question . . . Starting with a two bar tape, what are they called ? I have interpreted jh as using the term bbt's. Then the bbt's would build the tapes and they go on to build traverses and so on. Is this correct terminology for the bbt's ? p.s is that a Morgan Monroe headstock ?

I can give you an idea as to why I had annotated the chart I had just posted. I have been working on the daily chart, bar by bar with tapes, and relating the daily tapes to the 5 minute intraday moves. This can be found in the Iterative Refinement thread on recent posts, so I will leave out repeating it here. Just something I had been trying out to see how well it would all fit together. Friday Oct 9th on the daily tape I was looking for a b2b on market open and continue sequences for a return to dominance ( in chart attached, final yellow zone to right ). The market opened and continued these sequences, which is the reason for the way I had annotated. ( quick explain on attached chart, daily bars are large white bars- 5 minute bars are in green) I am not saying I am correct in any way, just contributing what I do along the way and hope some find the information useful, as I enjoy posts from members and their contributions to these threads... I am also a little old school
