What's Your Experience with 'renting' Strategies
equtrader replied to maguiredan's topic in Automated Trading
I think the first one may be overpriced for what it does. It is also based on a cheap commercially available GP engine. I too have questions about curve-fitting and data snooping in this case. I think the second one is a much better choice for beginners in the area of trading system machine generation. It may also turn out to be more robust because it uses no indicators. They also provide a demo version although they require a small payment for verification. It seems they charge $2,795 for a year use but I would ask then to double that period or offer some discount.- 34 replies

Automated Price Action Strategy Development
equtrader replied to gianno's topic in Swing Trading and Position Trading
http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/candlestick-corner/3492-trading-pa-no-indicators-8.html#post117662 I think it is the most promising tool. No indicators, just price action. No optimization. -
Check these studies: Performance of Candlestick Analysis on Intraday Futures Data: The Journal of Derivatives Market Timing with Candlestick Technical Analysis by Ben Marshall, Martin Young, Lawrence (Larry) Rose :: SSRN Together they indicate that this is not a technique to use by itself and on its own merit. Besides, candlesticks are a special subset of price patterns. See the link I gave above for Price Action Lab. It can find many more possibilities than just candlesticks. Some of the patterns it can find are typical candle formations.

It is used by this guy in this blog and it appears it is proprietary. Can anyone figure what kind of an indicator is it? I am willing to pay someone to back engineer it for me even close to 90%. Here are some examples where it is used: http://www.priceactionlab.com/Blog/2011/05/sp-500-index-are-we-close-to-a-trend-reversal/ http://www.priceactionlab.com/Blog/2011/05/the-state-of-etfs-may-23-2011-the-week-ahead/ You can send a pm if you like.

The US Bull/Bear Debate Graphic
equtrader replied to MadMarketScientist's topic in Market News & Analysis
The market can go up even if the economy is in a recession. I care about the market. I found this analysis interesting: S&P 500 Index – Are We Close to a Trend Reversal? | Price Action Lab Blog -
Interesting discussion. Another approach to price action here: The Most Advanced Tool for Analyzing Price Action and Discovering Trading Systems This one automates price pattern discovery and writes code for backtesting but it also backtests internally.

Very interesting approach as to why trend-following is hard: Why trend following is hard – a quantitative answer | Price Action Lab Blog Sumamry: trend-following requires a higher success rate than people think. Comments?

Question on Kelly Formula : Positive Expectancy But...
equtrader replied to choubix's topic in Risk & Money Management
ur welcome with a delay:) -
Data mining bias is not fitting necessarily. Data mining bias is a buzzword that sells. You cannot know if you have bias until you test your model. If you try to minimize the bias you may miss important information. You referred to negative-return models hindering the effectiveness of reality check. I really wonder why any trader would include negative return models. It does not make any sense what you write. Anyway, reality check is not really relevant to trading systems because there is always relevance in the rules. Optimization and curve-fitting is a more important issue.

Question on Kelly Formula : Positive Expectancy But...
equtrader replied to choubix's topic in Risk & Money Management
K% = Expectancy/average winner = 350/2000 = 0.175 or 17.5% This is the best paper on Kelly I have been able to find: http://www.priceactionlab.com/Literature/Kelly.pdf Read the examples at the end. -
Has anyone used the p-Indicator in FX swing trading or in other markets? Any comments about R:R ratios used? Any real tarding performance records?

I know this question has been asked millions of times but I have been away for a while (making money working) and now I want to risk some in FX. I am looking for a retial broker who is not scam (difficult I know) has a user-friendly platform that does not freeze (by chance or intentionally) during fast markets. Other than IB. Thanks

You may have to look for the exact functions because I ahve not done EL for a long time: If month = 3 and dayofmonth= 3 then Buy this Bar at close; sell this bar at close; end;
