Hi zdo, With all due respect in post #50 of this thread you said, "I don't care whether he has to label himself a vendor or not." followed by, " I don't care whether we hold them to a higher or different standard or not" then in post #74 of this thread you said, " If they put all vendors content in bold red it would not save a single sucker one dam dime." Now maybe I'm misinterpreting what you mean in what you've said but it sure didn't seem supportive of our cause, when at the time we were putting forward our argument to MMS to label vendors. Maybe I just misunderstand your intentions.

Hi zdo, I agree with almost all of your post , very insightful concerning the matching of the student with the teacher. Very good thoughts concerning the uselessness of the value of trading records. As per one of your earlier posts you are stressing the value of a student knowing himself before he can correctly find the teacher he needs! Thank you But standing in the way of of labeling vendors as being such makes no sense. Labeling a certain food as containing peanuts means nothing to most of us but to someone with an allergy to peanuts it has a life and death importance. Nobody is trying to say that a vendor is good or bad just a person of possible/probable differing intentions than a non vendor. It's a warning that might mean nothing to you or other well seasoned traders, but to the right person it might give them just enough information so as to not be taken to the cleaners, after all isn't that what a good neighbor in a community would do? And if so how is TL any different?

I agree. I don't know about you guys but other than these forums I've got no one around me who wants to talk about trading or who appreciates the experiences and search I've been through. After the first 3 years of full time study my wife never wanted to hear the words 'trading' ever again. I haven't mentioned it to her for the last 2 years as I've now completed 5 years of study. Maybe it's because I expect others to respect/appreciate this community as much as I do, that I don't appreciate some of the misintentions of some vendor members. The internet does not remove our responsibility to respect others. Too many people in these forums are treating people far differently than they ever would face to face. I'll never forget when I was befriended by a member of my local church, within weeks of becoming my "friend" they were at my door with a cotton swab looking for a DNA sample from me in order to sell me life insurance. It was surreal. To succeed as a TL vendor, identify yourself as such, then give alot more than other members and do it for a long time before trying to make a sale. Don't be selfish and self absorbed, people like that sicken you in your community, so why shouldn't they sicken others here in our community at TL. Prove yourself interested in this community, keep giving into it even when there's no benefit but that of friendship here for you. And if that doesn't interest you, then you don't interest us. Peddle your wares elsewhere. Close your Fuller Brush set display case, put your encyclopedias back in the box, fold back up that life insurance policy; we'll find you when we need you I'm sure that'll be easy enough!!

Hi Bob, I agree that some of the best posts have been from vendors, but I wonder if it was because the post was actually useful or because the sales pitch/delivery was so good. Either way a vendor does not a bad person make! Just because someone's name is on our vendor list please don't mistake it as a judgement of their character, we'll leave that call in your individual hands as you're best suited to make that decision. A vendor, like any other business, should be made to earn his sale by attracting and standing tall through true scrutiny. This is how a TL member should be respected, they should be made aware of a vendor member as soon as possible so that the process of scrutiny can begin right away. In the end it's best for both parties and could end up being a boondoggle for a good and true vendor who's got a good product to sell.

Hi Plugger, No one is accusing any vendor, including yourself, of doing anything wrong. The vendor list is not there to promote guilt or shame, only awareness. The only reason for the list is to make public the possible/probable "intent" of the vendor member as compared to that of the regular member of the community, when posting. Please don't see it in any other light. Your posts and opinions are much looked forward to.

I find it a strange business model to allow non paying vendors to secretly / privately promote themselves freely here at TL while others who publicly advertise have to pay!! This must be disheartening to paying vendors!!

Hi Plugger, Forgive me, I don't think I saw your post before. I'll certainly give you my two cents concerning your questions. It's hard enough to figure out someones character or intentions when you are face to face with them,let alone online!! But for a site like this I think first impressions say alot. A vendor who does not introduce himself as such when he joins the community only to worm his way into the social fabric of TL before starting a barrage of private messages promoting himself or posting his business url, has said alot about himself upfront. As said earlier by zdo, recognizing when a vendor eludes hard questions repeatedly is another good indicator that you may not want to consider him reliable. As to what proves him worthwhile, I'm going to guess "longevity" is probably one of the safest answers, along with "transparency". As to particular questions that would prove him viable, I imagine something from the futures association and BBB would be meaningful, along with any questions you might consider prudent about his business practices and return policies that you could get in writing. I'm not interested so much in separating good vendors from bad ones, they'll do a good enough job of that by themselves, I just see the value in labeling all vendors as being such so as to more fully understand their intent when posting. What do you think, any ideas?

Hi JEH There's alot of truth in what you say but there's also something sad about the reality you put forward ............. you've given up on the community. Or at least on the community being something worthwhile. Just like MM stated, instead of the community here at TL being good it's now become "entertaining" that's a sad commentary on where this forum has gone compared to why it was started. But it's not without hope and there are practical steps that can reverse the direction it's headed in. Let's hope it doesn't go down the drain and that the present owner can connect with why it was started and where it should be headed. Take care of that and the sites popularity and financial well being will take care of itself.
