  1. LoL @ Reaver great idea! Now I just need to get a dog! James you'll find that as you exercise more your body will crave adequate rest periods. Sleep is when your body repairs itself and helps your muslces grow, recover, and strengthen. All the hard work you do during the day is not what actually changes your body, its the sleeping period that does it all so make sure you're always getting enough of it!
  2. Thats actually quite a nifty tool. Never actually seen it on many charting platforms before. Is the actual candle type called Equivolume? Would make it much much easier to spot reversals and sticking points.
  3. Cardio before breakfast will make you loose fat but it will make you loose a lot of muscle as well. I'll base this post on the assumption that most people here are men so I'll limit this post to male fat loss. Men tend to store fat in the abdominal region of their bodies both under the skin and around the internal organs. Under skin fat is seen as flab while organ fat is hard. You want to loose both types of fat. The theory behind doing cardio on an empty stomach is that you will deplete what little glycogen is left in your body in the morning and use your fat for energy. However what happens when you do your cardio in a fasted state is that your body releases cortisol which will in turn release the amino acids which in turn produce glucose which leads to muscle loss. You'll notice you're dopping weight but you'll look not much different cause your're eating your muslce off as well. I call this "skinny fat" where you get a person who is not physically large but still looks flabby. By eating before you do cardio your body will use the calories from the food for energy during your workout but after your metabolism will use fat from your organs for energy. If you make your cardio high intensity your body will use glycogen for energy but after will use fat. The opposite applies to low intensity cardio i.e jogging.
  4. I'd go with boxing or MMA personally. Its fast to learn and you can learn to defend yourself and attack quickly. Great workouts as well!
  5. Jujitsu especially the Brazilian style is pretty cool. Its one of the more accessable forms of Martial arts cause its based on grappling. Watch Tito Ortiz in the UFC he's a really good fighter who uses that style. But then again if you want a martial art to get into straight away which gives you a great workout try boxing. I love boxing personally. MMA fighting styles are becoming really popular here in Australia now. I've done Kung Fu, Karate, and Aikido and I have to say that of those Aikido was my favourite. Aikido is the best self defence martial art because the whole style is based on self defence, you don't attack at all, but you get to learn some pretty cool ways to twist peoples limbs in weird ways. It also saved my life once. Some guy tried to mug me, he had a knife out and I refused to hand ove rmy wallet. He slashed (bastard got my shoulder just!) and I side stepped him turned his arm around over itself followed by my elbow coming down hard on his which broke it! Hope he learned a lesson hehe.
  6. Hey Reaver. Your GSD is awesome! So cute. I love the British Bulldog as well. They are so cute in a really ugly sort of way. Their mannerisms are also pretty cool. I've always been partial towards Dobermann's because my uncle back in Europe has 6 of them. Rotties are awesome dogs as well. I think I must have something soft for guard and attack type dogs haha! Whats everyone's views on cropping dogs ears and docking tails? In Australia it's illegal to crop a dogs ears, and in most states it's illegal to dock tails. I personally reckon Dobermann's should have their tails docked and the cropped ears do look pretty cool but I wouldn't want to do it for cosmetic reasons alone cause it would probabbly hurt the pup heaps.
  7. Do you get in any exercise Walter? If you exercise regularly you should be sleeping more. I work out around 5 times a week and I need to get 8-10 hours of sleep in so my whole body can recover. Not just my muscles but my central nervous system which also helps me mentally. Maybe you should start doing some regular exercise to help alleviate stress built up during the day when you trade and then hit the sack for a good sleep. Sex is also a great form of exercise. I can't function propperly unless I have sex around 5 times a week minimum. Don't want to make this sound seedy or anything but I find that when I have sex I sleep much better and feel revitalised the day after.
  8. LoL nah mate I'll show him who's boss early on. I love these big dog breeds. I can't stand seeing guys with a little dog like a Chihuahua on a lead it drives me insane. American Staffies are also nice.
  9. I think you mean just stocks that experience high price volatility. This is a double edged sword. These stocks are either very small or micro cap stocks therefore they suffer from huge price fluctuations as much as 5-20% in a day however there is bugger all volume so not a great trading instrument. Large cap stocks may only move 1-2% a day but they have enormous volume so you can day trade them easily. If you have some serious capital behind you then stocks are probabbly better than futures and other derivatives to trade. Eg: If you are trading with a $500,000 position every day (remember I did say serious capital) you could buy up shares in BHP Billiton (ASX code BHP) at the current price of 38.82. That would give you 12,880 shares. If you take lets say a 2% price movement which isnt uncommon you can go $0.778 in either direction. On that number of shares your profit is $10,000 per trade. Not bad ey. Price volatility is usefull in these low cap stocks only for longer term trades cause you simply don't have the volume required to effectively trade them on an intraday basis.
  10. I use the longer time frame charts (daily and sometimes weekly/monthly) to find key S/R levels based on the pivots for that time frame as well as visual levels and I note these down. Sometimes I find that most of them don't come into play but it's still handy to know. I like to take trades around key price levels only as thats where I find most momentum is built through volume so these levels become important. The smaller time frame charts (55t, 89t, 2min) help me to time an entry as a pull back based on the action of a longer time frame chart (233t or 5 min). Drilling down as you call it is a great way of helping to time an entry. Trading should be kept as simple as posible I reckon
  11. I want to get a Dobermann soon. I love Dobes great dogs. Was going to get Rottweiler but it'll eat way too much. Did you ask your mum why she got so many dogs. Does she want them for the company or does she just want to save em from the shelter?
  12. James basketball is a tough sport on the knees. I dislocated my knee about 6 months ago playing it. If your tall and heavy like me then it makes it worse. The bigger they are the harder they fall after all! Warm up your legs before you play by doing some small stretches. Do some exercises that involve the flexion of the knee i.e squats, or lunges to limber up. Make sure if you have knee problems that you strap your knees up. Take some glucosamine suppliments to help with joints and also fish oil to help your cartelige grease itself up.
  13. In Australia about 14 years ago superannuation became compulsory as the Labor government at the time realised that the Baby Boomer generation will cause a huge strain on the tax funded pension system. Currently you must contribute 9% of your gross salary into superannuation every year. Despite 14 years of these contributions people still find themselves in a positon where they are still unable to be self funded retirees. I work in the financial planning industry so I've seen a lot of this. As the grey dollar becomes more and more important the strain on the Gen X and Y'ers will grow. Soon the i-pod generation will feel it as well when the Gen X'ers start to reach 55 years of age. It will be interesting to see now what happens with the elections this year. John Howard still hasn't called them yet but he's just announced that should he be re-elected he will retire within a couple of years leaving the way open for our Treasurer, Peter Costello, to become our new PM. I hate both the major parties so I'm gonna donkey vote an independent! The Asia/Pacific region is becoming the new major player in world politics and economics driven forward by Japan, China, South Korea, and Australia. Will be an interesting time in the next 20 years untill my generation is firmly entrenched in power
  14. I would recommend you don't get up and run on an empty stomach it's highly catabolic. Make sure you have a small meal before you run. In terms of shoes good running shoes are New Balance and Asics. Go to a specialty sport shoe store and get your feet tested to see how you step cause then you can get the right shoe for your feet.
  15. You should rename this thread...When Automated Systems go Wrong during Income Distribution Quarters! Those guys got hit hard when the markets turned against them and their rigid systems couldn't cope. Then on top of that they are up for income distribution payments to investors at the start of the September quarter.
  16. Abe didn't last too long in the job didn't he, only less then a year after Koizumi? I'm not sure if he came to APEC here in Australia. What we need in many countries is a group of leaders with real vision. The best we could do here in Australia was the "Work choices" legislation which effectively sent our work place relations system back to the late 1700's! I don't think we will really see any dramatic shift in political strategy and policy untill people in my generation become old enough to get into seats of power. The old Baby Boomers are still in power and they don't want to give up. These people are still ruling states based upon the old realist ideals of the all powerfull state in a very cold war mind set...its us versus the rest! P
  17. Those Audi's are bloody nice. I'm jealous of Sparrow, being in Germany with those nice flat smooth Autobahn's with no speed limit! Pitty MB limits their cars to 250 km/h! I'm sure you can get the limiter removed though hehe. One day I'd love to go to Germany rent a Ferrari for a few days and just go nuts on the Autobahn's.....I think I'll go find my Kraftwerk CD now to get inspired!
  18. I think people underestimate the "herd". The "herd" is always going to be a stronger force than any one professional or even a few professionals put together. If there's panic the professionals can try to stall it if it is in their interests but they can't do that forever. Knowing how to gague the mentality of the "herd" and take a position apporpriately is the holy grail! However we can't cause we're not psychics and we're not experts on group psychology. Yes people will react badly to good news and visa versa. This is about as simple as it gets when it comes to trading off the news. You'll find that most credible economic news reporters often quote the expected figure prior to its release so you can make a game plan before a trade and then gague once the news is released whether the expectation has been met, exceeded, or unrealised. Of course many people will say "I don't care about what the news is, I just care about how the markets react to it" and thats a valid enough oppinion however it can't hurt to have a small game plan based on reliable expectations data. Just always remember never to go in with a pre-conceived idea!
  19. I've noticed that on his site he's been talking more and more about hedging his grains and metals with options on futures because leaving an open position of a commodity futures overnight is highly risky. Just as easily as you can make your month with a great move in the AGS a nasty gap open against you one day can equally make a bad month! Personally I'd say that to effectively swing trade you wouldn't want to have less than $50k in an account and at that level you'd still swing trade only 1 contract or maybe 2.
  20. Wow Britney can't mime hehe. Is it just me or did that performance not inspire?
  21. I just found the greatest guitar player ever! This guy is a god with a guitar in his hands. His name is Paco de Lucia he's a Spanish bloke who plays a mean flamenco guitar. Listening to it is hypnotising enough but just have a look at the way this guy's hands move across those strings. Simply stunning and awe inspiring. Here he plays two songs: Rumba and Entre dos Aguas
  22. If you're going to trade the AUD I would probabbly keep track of news here. We are in an election year at the moment. We have just had the APEC summit, there is growing tension in the coalition as to whether the Prime Minister should resign ahead of the election cause he's really old, and we have inflation figures to be released pretty soon! Our currency has been incredibly volatile over the last month and a half going from (using an indirect quote) a low of around 76 US cents for our dollar up to a high of 88 US cents for our dollar. Thats a very wide range in such a short time. Keep track of the key economic news announcements when trading the AUD at the moment
  23. I really like that idea Dogpile its very methodical and it will drill your mind into recognising setups automatically without having to go over your notes all the time. You will learn to spot variations on a theme that way so you can fine tune one set up for a change in market condition i.e cyclical v momentum trend. Your last 2 posts have been really insightfull into the study required by someone learning this business but also it highlights that to be a successful trader you don't need 20 setups. A few well planned setups should be sufficient for you to be consistently profitable. Once you have your setups all planned out and you can recognise them and enter them confidently then as a trader the next step in the learning curve is managing your exits!
