  1. For other business interests I'm looking to get into property development. Have any of you had experience in this area specifically commercial property? Just looking for some info on getting started. Syndication seems to be the best way considering the gigantic capital needed to do this.
  2. Well when it comes to meeting women nothing with Money in it beats "Fighter Pilot". Sorry guys I'm sorry but saying you play at Top Gun for a living cuts the mustard imho. Either that or if you can say you drive a F1 car for a living then you get any woman. Anyways the trick to women is to treat em' mean, keep em' keen! All women love a man who can tell them what to do!! Anyhow for a business card I'd put down "Derivative Analyst" or "Securities Trading & Investment Manager". Looks good when your goin for that margin loan! If you're trading under a business for tax reasons then you can even give yourself a lofty title like "Senior" or "Securities and Risk Management Executive"
  3. Wow Boca thats a helluva nice view! Soul, always wanted to visit Japan one day cause its a pretty close neighbour to Australia. Apart from Tokyo, any other nice areas to visit?
  4. What are general market trading times in the US for contracts such as YM or ER2? I'm just trialing a new platform and its default is set to 12 am open to 12am close and I'm not sure whether I input the opening / closing time according to the official market open in my time zone or US time zone.
  5. Extension of your question Walter. How do you choose your stocks for the SSF? I mean do you just pick the biggest movers n shakers which are likely to effect the rest of the market? I'm unfamiliar with the stock codes James pointed out before (Aussie Markets here) if someone could shed some light?
  6. I think my Chinese is not so good but I think you say: Ni Hao ma? In Romanian you say: Salut! Would love go go visit China, Japan, and USA sometime.
  7. So when your using your fibs in real time, how often would you use them in a day? I get how they are more dynamic cause they are based off developing price action, but (using the chart James put up) would you then draw another retracement from that high to the bottom of that move, and again from the bottom of that move to the next high? And if so, do the new lines automatically cancel out the old retracement points? Thanks for the quick replys btw
  8. Simple enough topic, where do your ancestors come from? Intersting to see where people come from I'm of Romanian ancestry but living in Australia now.
  9. May as well get straight to the point. I've never really used Fib retracements before but I see heaps of people using them on charts. Do you use them in real time trading or only at the EOD to get some ranges for the next day? I'm kind of confused as to the FIB's use and how its applied in real time trading. Anyone who could shed some light on this would be much appreciated. Cheers!
  10. Bond markets are traded heavily by fund manager who run a geared fund. They constantly trade the bonds so that they can match the bond duration to the duration of their debts. In terms of things that effect bonds, yes interest rate are the number one thing. But also other economic indicators such as the CPI (Consumer price index) and employment figures also have indirect effects. I.e: If employment rises, then income rises, then aggregate demand increases, which means more money floods the economy, which means inflation, which means interest rate rises! etc etc. Longer term bonds due to "convexity" are more strongly effected by changes in discount rates (interest rates) due to the nature of bond prices. Depends as well as whether the bond is a 'zero' or a coupon bond. It's very very rare these days to find 'zero's in the market as they are usually OTC instruments. Credit ratings are also important. For a higher return you want to trade Junk Bonds as the discounts off face are larger due to the poorer credit ratings. If you keep track of S&P and Moody's reports on credit ratings this helps as well as one bad report can send the price of a bond tumbling! Personally I find bond's very boring and there are way to many big players there which is kind of intimidating. As for indicators such as TICK etc i dont think they apply to bonds cause they are not based on any underlying stock index. Hope that little bit helps.

Yea Hannibal was awesome. Also loved Alexander the Great. His original army of like 40,000 destroyed the Persian Empire and made it to India of all places! Intersting one weiwei. I think the difference between the Chinese army was that it didn't have as many professional soldiers as the Roman army had. Why waste a good soldier lol! I think what you find among all the best military commanders is that their force of conviction was always superior to all others. Hannibal marched his army through the most difficult mountain pass to attack the Romans from an area they never expeced it. Hitler's armies marched around the Maginot line to attack France (Poor Frenchies, they can't fight their way out of a paper bag, and no Napoleon was a Corsican not a Frenchman before anyone starts lol) and show them how to fight a war for the 2nd time! Tenacity and determination is often much more imporant than numbers. That applies for lots of things in life, not just fighting a war!
  12. eyes hurt!!!! Must see a paragraph!
  13. Swing trading stocks I use pivots, MP, and good ol basic price (candlesticks) and volume action. If your trading stocks having an ear open to any upcoming company announcements helps....especially if you know directors!
  14. I haven't used TRIN before because for some reason I can't gague its reliability. Its formula might be the inverse of price but its not an exact inverse relationship. Where charts show a trending pattern the TRIN often is flat looking. How do you interpret a flat looking TRIN? Furthermore does this make the TRIN a less reliable indicator? I'm in 2 minds about the TRIN myself.
  15. Which is the smoother and more flexible platform? Want to be able to use MP as well. ESignal data i hear is pretty good. ANyone have experience with both?
  16. Yea i'm in my 1st year of trading stocks now and so I havent made gigantic amounts of money to be able to afford all the best platforms out there so I rely on EOD data etc. I plot the days course of sales data into excel and use it to do a very rudimentary MP of the days action. I combine it along with daily and monthly pivot points along with volume action to get an idea of how the day or week will go cause atm im just swing trading. It work's relatively well but I don't trust the data that comes out of equities markets as much cause they're much more open to manipulation.

    L2 reading info

In terms of trick of specialists or market makers: Tape Reading and Market Tactics is a great book by Humphrey Neill. L2 reading, i havnen't really read any books on it but from personal experience its not the most reliable tool and I personally don't like using it cause it can get so manipulated. There's a post somewhere on this forum about market manipulation as well as a post concerning L2 somewhere. Try the search function. Best of luck
  18. Here's one out of left field: on the TS platform what are the white tape readings? Red and Green are self explanatory but whats the white one? Also whats the highlighted price signify?
  19. Photoshop is essentail to learn. For more detailed things CAD is pretty cool but might be over the top as well as really expensive to buy. It depends on what you want to do really. My mate uploads his CAD images onto his website for clients to see. He's an industrial designer/architect. But for all intensive purposes Photoshop and Dreamweaver are sufficient for basic stuff.
  20. Good advice there. Everyone does react differently to emotional trauma. I think that the more life experience one has the better equipped to deal with these things. I think that you have to know yourself as intimately as you know the markets. Learning your own emotional and mental boundaries is very important because your life is ever changing and your persona changes as time goes by. The person you were 5 years ago is most likely not the same person as who you are today. If you spend some time for inward reflection and objective analysis on your own personality traits and how you deal with emotional trauma this will eventually pay dividends in your trading life.
  21. I can relate to your story in many ways. My mum hasn't passed on yet though but similar life story. It's inspirational to me and a driving motivator to want to perpetuate the legacy she's worked hard to create. Best of luck to you
  22. Happy Easter to those who are celebrating it (especially those who have fasted this whole week or the whole 40 days!). To those who don't celebrate Easter have a happy and safe holiday. Enjoy your break everyone.
