I'm using various different strategies. But for backtesting right now I'm wanting to test a strategy of stock trending using a combination of trend-following, oscillator and price. I'm really looking at swing trading, perhaps evolving to day-trading later.

I have an IB account, invest in stocks and options and am looking for software that allows me to perform backtesting of strategies. Ideally, it would also be software that automates the trades. I have a programming background. I'm picking up mixed signals about TradeStation, especially since they went to being a brokerage. What's the current thinking? BTW I'm in the USA.
