kudos richard. I have just started using the volsplit and am just starting to see its nuances, it has also made me study volume and realize how important it is especially at key points.

agekay, I agree with you on the type of information that a bar gives us. I think what we are trying to do is get as much information from the bar a possible for our own interpretation. By your comments I assume that you only use the tape ie, time and sales. Although some may be able to trade without bars or indicators, others myself included need a graphical representation of what is going on in the market. I'm sure that we would all appreciate any insight that you may have that will add to this thread. Slamming an approach is easy trying to add to it and increase its value by maybe taking it in another direction has value. As I'm sure you agree no approach including your is flawless, unless you have the holy grail everyone talks about. Trading in 80% mental. The ability to stick to a trading plan and execute it. Any tool or knowledge or ability that allows you to do that is far from meaningless. I personally use indicators to visually assist me in making decisions, and give me the confidence to execute the trade. I have been trading full time for over a year and manage to make a living at it. Again if you have any positive contributions that will assist in developing this indicator, "the purpose of this tread" then it would be greatly appreciated, otherwise i'm sure there are other threads that discuss the legitimacy of indicators and bars.
  3. Took one trade today 8 lots for 1.75 points went short at open. Net + $661 after commissions. I'm going to try to trade less with more contracts. I'm only going to trade with the my trend indicators and take higher probability trades, I'm sick of over trading paying more than what i make on slippage and commissions. I hope I can be can keep to my plan.

Instead of trying to replicate the EOt vol Splitter why don't we try to come up with a better indicator to track large trades. The EOT splitter is not accurate all the time it is as reliable as other indicators if the are used correctly. I use the eot indicators and they are not he holy grail. I think that we are trying to recreate something that we think is perfect when it is not perfect instead of concentrating on coming up with a volume indicator that will do a better job than the current volume indicators available. We should first define what we want. Personally I think a good place to start would be to get an indicator that would track large traders buying, selling, #blocks being traded, and Rate of Change. The blocks would be represented by line thickness. This is my opinion anyway. Also the volume splitter works much better on a larger time frame when you take trades on a smaller time frame. But then again so does a moving average.

phall, I will run it on monday, Done trading today. Have you also taught about adding the width feature to the lines. setplotwidth. I was thinking that blocks per trade could be used.Blocks per trade uses trade volume. The more blocks the thicker the lines.
  6. I'm done for today , 1 small trade picked up $175+.
  7. diablo, No it's it's wrong, I found out because my p&L never matched up with the statement I got . Then I figured the commission manually and it is only reporting 1.20 per contract instead of the 2.40. It should actually be 2.35. It's not a big deal unless you take tons of .25 - .5 scalps and then realize that your commission eats what profits you think you have.
  8. Early Day today. Had a great morning. Didn't take any trades that did not meet my entry signals. Most importantly didn't try to pick tops or bottoms. Have to work on exiting better got out early on several trades only to see them run. But all in all i'm pretty happy with today, i feel i'm making strides in my trading. I can't figure out how to get my reports to report the correct commission. I f anyone can help please let me know. Right now it is reporting 2.40. It should be 4.80 approx. Actual results $446.40.
  9. Here are my results for today. I had a very good day as far as money made and quality of trades. I hope i can build on today and not regress. I am trying to trade with my signals both on entry and exit. Still got out of a few trades early, went against a signal once, but this is better than usual, Could I be getting closer to trading in the zone, I hope so. 900+ after commissions.
  10. thales, Enjoy your time with your family and let us now how the experiment with your daughter goes one on my kids has expressed interest in trading she is 10.

  13. Had a pretty good day today, still not happy with all my trades , but a lot better than yesterday still making stupid little mistakes that I should no better not to make by now. Want to work at taking more of my signals and try not to have an opinion on the market being 2 high or 2 low. It is messing with my trading.:crap: Anyway traded 41 round trip lots today. + 380 after commissions.

here are some charts from today. The white is the blowfish macd and the purple the EOT. The chart is a 1 min. chart. I also wanted to add that although I'm not sure how to do it the setplotwidth could potentially be used to set the thickness of the macd line. For example if # of trades > then x then setplotwidth. I'm not sure what coding to use to determine the actual amount.

  16. Ended up Over $900 after commissions. Had a positive day but it was a grind all day. Traded over 65 Round trips. Made several mistakes fortunately they where going long near the bottom and got multiple opps to get out without much damage. All in all even though I made good money i'm not happy with my trading today for several reasons. 1. Entered against the trend again, I wish I could get a shock collar everytime I did it then maybe i would stop. 2. Held a trade way 2 long . It was stupid trade with no signal went hard against me then gave me the opp to get out with a few + ticks, but I held on this happened several time each time + a few ticks, A rare gift from the market gods. Anyway I should have taken the first one, and didn't. 3. Moved my stops. 4. Extremely stressful trading. Again it worked out for me today had it not I would have gotten slapped hard.
  17. Had a bad start on a stupid mistake went short instead of long cost me $450. I need to pay more attention when entering orders. Anyway ended pretty well with +300 after commissions.
  18. Paulrico what broker are u using , I ask because I see you have a 1/2 oil contract. I would like to trade oil but want to start small.
  19. well i didn't trade all day except for a stupid decision after the market closed. I shorted anticipating a sell off before 4:15 , well I was down $150 and my girlfriend falls down the stairs and I get up, with less than a minute to see if she was alright and didn't make it back. She i was O.K So I made multiple mistakes: Traded outside my hours with out my time stop. Had time to get out before I went to help. Could have gotten out after the market reopened. loss $250 It came back down. Loss $175 Could have gotten out then. Traded against the trend. Shorted against buy signals, 3 of them. Moved my normal 2 point stop. Etc... Etc..... This lesson cost me $500 plus commissions. :crap::crap::crap:

Just to show the intensity in relation to the actual trades that happened.
  22. Just got back into trading today and here are my results: I hit sell instead of buy on one trade and should have fixed it immediately but stubborn i held on turned into a small loss but could have been at lot worse. No time to post charts today i'll try tomorrow.

I also wanted to point everyone to a blog i follow. emini-watch.com , There is a free indicator called better volume which attempts to show what the professionals are doing. I have found this site to be very informative and I am hoping the author will divulge more info. Anyway he says you can figure out what the professionals are doing by analyzing the volume at the bid and ask, the high to low range of the bar, and the average trade size. The code is open and might shed some light.

Here is a Time and sales from between 3:30-3:32 and a close up of the chart i posted. If this is helpful I can post more T&S. There where: 4730 at bid 18 Avg 262, 3473 at ask 12 avg 289. I know this is a extremely small sample if it can even be called that , but even though the vol was down , more sellers the avg was less and the price remained the same. The volsplitter showed down so I assume it tracks the difference it was white which is the highest intensity. Hope some of this helps.
