Ok Tin that will be nice... I also noticed that the firts 30 min range has a great deal of consideration on futres, I like Clayburgs work on that... Since following forex on my forex research project I am using Metatrader 4, and happens to be that Northfinance has Futures real time data for some popular contracts like YM... they have their data slipped by two ticks wich doesnt bother me.. but I have been able to start looking this firts half hour range as we are studyng something similar in forex... take a look at todays attachment an you can see how market has a great deal of consideration for this levels... cheers Walter.

Ok ¡¡ I will recap What I am going to do this weekend then : I will manually backtest the following strategy : Entry: 1 pip above/below break of Range (3 hour range before london open) Exit : +15 pips net (will be a +13 pips gain after EFX comissions and spread) Stop : oposite range +/- 1 pip and -2 pip costs I will test USD/JPY since january 11 2005 I will only take one break per day. So far this little set rules will be implemented on my backtest... with stats being on my hands after this plus an overall discretionary overlook.. then I will know what details can be changed to curve the results into a better performance... I hope I get this done before monday, we will see... cheers Walter.

Ok I will try to test with this one hour chart... what time frame are you planning to use for the test ?
-
Thats the edge of trading real acct vs sim... I do agree with Brown on the fact that sim will not give you the correct chemicall responses that a real acct does... doesnt matter if its 1 or 50 contracts... glad to hear Tin your doing ok... I noticed one of you setup is a doji with volume reversal... I like that setup, could it be possible if you could open a thread explaining with some more details this setup and how do you time your entry ? would be nice to get some specifics on that setup and I am shure it could also help you a lot to right that down here on the forum with some graphics even with a video why not... nice stuff Tin... cheers Walter.

OK I am just doing too many things here Don at the same time... didnt realize that on the 1 min data base I have almost 3 months worth of data BUT on the 1 hour data base I have data back too January 11 2005 ¡¡¡ would that make a good solid test ? jejeje
-
OK so USD/JPY will be it... Could you get 1 year worth of data ?
-
James you would like to check on the technical trading forums this threads : flip, false break, lazy and ABC trades all from Walterw, there is a lot of information of how I trade there... and yes I normally use Tick charts... cheers Walter.

Yes Thats a good idea ¡¡... it will give us diferent results and we can see where its the edge on this stats... I dont have much data... I wanted to test 1 year, but dont have that much... I understand you have at least one worth of data, could that be the case ? also what pair will you be testing ? cheers Walter.

I like to see that VWAP line on the sand...

thanks Nick for inputs, it certainly is an interesting topic where to expand horizons as a trader... ES was an alternative for me and has been considered some time ago... what happened is that technically speaking it is a hard instrument for myself to trade... It has been very dificult to take all my methods been used (originally in Russell, now on Ym) to ES... so in the need of fresh air... forex has been a very interesting aproach for me and it has a great challenge in terms of really using new technicall methods completely diferent to what I am doing now on futures... I believe that I could not say I am going to scalp forex, that probably would be misleading... In terms of making amounts of moneys, I do have greater expectations than 1.3 M year on forex... I think much more can be done with not that much stress futures market demand... so we will see... maybe you want to join the Tokyo team.. cheers Walter.

Today I had been doing some testing... looks like having entries on the original range has better performance (not the +5 pips)... also stops would not be triggered that easy if using oposite range... +15 target has made RRR much better and makes possible using so far away stops... thats at this points my inputs... nothing formal yet, just looking from a very general perspectives.... in resume what I actually looked at is : Entry: 1 pip above/below break of Range (real one) Exit : +15 pips Stop : oposite range +/- pip So far the + performance comes from the amount of positive days vs negative days.... cheers Walter.

Is it my impression or are we having much more overnight globex trading going on ?

We have a positive future my friend ¡¡

Hi James... the above statement is where a scalper probably is diferentiated from a day trader... scalper make money every day... day traders need big super days to curve their acct. balance... You can not base your trading future on magnific days like today because unfortunately the market has very few partys like today... you must be prepared and programmed to trade succesfully on the very slow and normal days... thats where scalpers have an edge on daytraders... we dont care if today is a super day or not... we walk out everyday with our daily normal profit... obviously when you detect momentum conditions you may want to take a little more gains, but unfortunately it is the exception... normally this bussiness is more boring than exciting... the target its not the excitment, the target is the money... cheers Walter.

Hi Nick, it took me some kind of process to get eficient in scalping... I originally was a swing trader (in Buenos Aires ), evolved to day trader and then became scalper... The concepts behind swing and day trading where the same, just switched to a smaller time universe... got confortable with it and finded my place in the market... I still believe I can have more better performance if my "timing" methods could be optimized... I am working now in a very cool tool that Raul ( feb2865) has introduced here and I know it will make a revolution on my timing methods as I still know they can be much more optimized... About comisions in futures you should not pay more than 3.5 Round trip... in that case for example 1 point YM (minimal fluctuation) still is profitable... It can be done... takes time, optimism and perseverence... and specially greed control... I am only following YM... plenty of oportunities +15 oportunities per day... just take the best ones and make my day 50-60 bucks per contract.. makes a midle class living here in my country, for the millons I am working on a Forex project together with Don... cheers Walter.

Thanks Jerry for this great presentations ¡¡ they really have a tremendous educational value... I like your Newbie character ¡¡ he is the personification of a calm and relaxed in control trader... cool stuff keep it up... thanks Walter. -
Here I attach a horizontal comparisson of the HA chart and the raw bars chart... its clear the good correlation you mentioned today.. I plotted some trendlines on both showing the main swings...you can notice the noise clearly been defeated and at the same time the swings are there ready to be traded... I am just delighted... cheers Walter.

OK Raul you are a genius ¡¡ great finding with this indicators and setup parameters ¡¡ also so greatfull for sharing here at TL with us... I am running Sierra Charts with opentick data... playing arround with this chart setup, and its really incredible the fenomena of combing this HA and Hull with this parameters... I had been coding on tradestation for years and never got anything similar... I am just impressed... My inputs so far till now : there is some lag BUT its not a great lag... the structure of price action is clearly there and "timing" (the hardest job for any trader) can be done so easy, taking of the stress that noise causes and keeping you inside of moves that can make you clean profits... Obviously this is no perfection nor holly grail, but that it can make your life more easier I believe yes... I attach a chart of what I personally playing arround came up, also added some indicators from sierra that I am experimenting at this time... thanks again for this great contribution ¡¡ cheers Walter.

Raul : was this morning chart a 144T chart ? thanks Walter.

yes unfortunately Woodie is a kind of closed guy... you can not do your own research and interact with that comunity... many good guys like Dr Bob had to open their own site... (now they are as closed as woodie on their site too )...
