  1. Hi ephi, Nothing to do with indicators here but you can compare volume to previous average volumes. For example, today the Nikkei is stuck in a dull range. Notice the volume in comparison to Friday. Low volume today showing not much participation in the markets... these tend to create rangebound days. You can simply wait for the opening 15-30mins as well to gauge activity.
  2. If you are new to trading and interested in developing a solid trading plan, I highly recommend Vadym Graifer's, The Master Profit Plan - your 5-Step Trading Plan Workbook.
  3. pretty steep... over $1,000 per month. Best to have a firm pay for the fees.
  4. One more snapshot of the tape.... good scalpers tool. Another one at the end of the morning session:
  5. Hi dougr, I must say I am not familiar with your bid/ask indicator. I have interpreting the information generated from it. I would prefer to see the actual T&S during that particular time to understand what the tape is telling me. My apologies on this. Also keep in mind that big traders are not always right. They lose some and win some. I talk to many institutional traders and there are days when they buy tops and sell bottoms. Its just part of the game. The program I am using is called Order Ticker and available from CQG. Its more of an institutional software.
  6. Esignal is a headache. The data is never reliable and bad tick is a common occurrence. Clean data in my opinion is a must in trading. Ive used DTN in the past but never had a problem with them. Though I think this industry needs more data vendors.
  7. Hi dougr, The first thing that popped in my head is that you are using a bid/ask indicator. A spike at the bid may indicate selling on the indicator... but this could simply mean that a big player was accumulating a huge line on the way down as people were panicking and hitting the bid. I personally read the tape through the time & sales and an order ticker available on my platform. I would like to see if possible the actual T&S at this levels you mention. How big are the lots? How did price and tape react once these lots appeared? It could of been a ton of small lots hitting the bid (small traders panicking) while a big player was holding the bid. Below is an example of my tape. (filtered out to 20 lots or more)
  8. By adding the $25k minimum on futures, you will see many small time traders taken out of the market. However, I highly doubt removal of this group will have any impact on the markets. The volume is simply too small in my opinion. Most traders under $25k will trade 1-2 lots at a time. On a personal note, I do not think enforcing a $25k minimum is going to take effect. A broker with proper risk management should simply raise the margin rates in times of high volatility and lower it in times low volatility. Adjusting the margins is the best way to keep a small trader from going bust. Margin protects the securities firm, the exchanges, and the trader from himself.
  9. A day trader is typically someone who does not hold a position overnight. A day trader may be in and out of a stock/contract in seconds, minutes, or hours... but will usually stay flat into the close. Hence the term "day" trader. A swing trader is one that holds positions overnight on a short-term basis. This can range anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks. An investor typically plans to hold on to a stock/contract on a much longer timeframe. An investor may rely more on fundamentals, will diversify, and looks to hold for months to years. One of the key differences is a technical vs fundamental approach. A scalper (who is the shortest timeframe day trader) does not care what a company's P/E ratio or balance sheet looks like... he may simply be reading order flow or tape. The usual day trader who plans on holding for minutes to hours may be relying on support and resistance levels... technical analysis. A swing trader as well may be relying on a mixture of technicals and fundamentals. For more info, it is best you pick up an intro book on finance or trading. You can find 100's of pages alone on this topic. Good luck!
  10. Thanks atto for posting this out. The homepage caches the data every 600 seconds or so in order to speed up the load. As a result the stats are delayed by a few minutes compared to the stats on the homepage. However, you indicated a possible bug on the ignore forums function. This may be a possibility so I will run this over to my coder to double check. Thanks again.
  11. My first thought was to separate the domains.. but due to some of the customizations made already this could not be done. (as far as I know) The option to subscribe to the business forums upon registering is something may be able to implement. Thanks
  12. Could you post your discussion on the boards since many are not TS members. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the feedback. Let me spend some time thinking about how to implement this... trading is definitely the main for TL. The business forum was just out of pure personal passion and if members are not too keen on it I will remove it. I still do want to make it work and figure out a way to separate the two entirely so you would not even notice it was there. Please bear with me for a few more days until I have this sorted out. Thanks.
  14. Working on this now.. thanks for the notice.
  15. Hi, thanks for the notice. I will submit this request to my coder as well.
  16. Working on a menu where members can easily check or uncheck the forums they want to ignore. ETA is on Tuesday for now.

  19. Guys make sure you take advantage of the ignore system. In a few days I should have a easier way for members to filter out content.
  20. Hi Blu-Ray, Yes, I am well aware of the steps required to ignore many forums. I am working with my coders right now to implement a few more features that would make filtering out contents easier. Your request is currently under discussion as well and hopefully should be implemented shortly. Thank you. James
  21. Hi guys, Thank for the notice. I never used this feature so was unaware of it. I will get my coders to fix this up asap. James
  22. One of my first reads on volume was by Humphrey Neill in Tape Reading and Market Tactics. I highly recommend you read this as well.
