  1. Gooni - CFDs. They are like futures but much less leveraged, which is good for beginners with low capital I guess. Last time I checked they were illegal in the US. Hopefully I can start trading the real deal soon.
  2. Intraday short turned out to be an overnight one. The market looks surprisingly dull. It's either going to make a huge downward move or shoot straight up. It's just calm before the storm methinks returned about 45 euros on the dax. btw for some reason I have two accounts on this forum- eric341 & this one. I'll be using this one from now onwards
  3. Been kinda busy. The day before yesterday I thought the market was going to tank but I guess it had other plans :missy: Lost 40 euros. Will post SS when I get the chance.
  4. I wonder what Abe actually did with his money. Hopefully not long the ES LOL
  5. I'm currently developing a mechanical system for the DAX. The most important thing when trading the dax is to keep your stops a little wider than u would for a normal market as it is quite volatile. But not too wide of course... Also, regarding the stoxx future. Its very liquid, and its possible to make a handsome living by just grabbing one tick a day but sizing up...now the hard part is developing a system that will allow you to do this consistently The stoxx and dax tend to move quite closely with each other.
  6. Does nison trade, or does he just teach?
  7. Wow, weird considering that the the dax has fallen quite a bit over the past hour EDIT: just read your post again, missed the 'limit down' part the first time round.... Looks like the dax is going to break the 4k figure at this rate, its free falling.
  8. BF, do they still do that (introducing overnight margins while markets are still open) on the eurex?
  9. Yes janus, you're correct Quick and prompt service too, you get what you pay for I suppose. I'll look into Investor RT. Blowfish, how would you run this data through excel? Is there a step by step method available? Much appreciated, Eric.
  10. Alright I have purchased tick data and now I need a charting platform, preferably free. I tried Metastock EOD but it it doesn't chart intra day data, only EOD and above. I don't think the Pro version is worth forking out hundreds of dollars for. I've tried NT, but it seems it's quite picky when it comes to data formatting and it only accepts tick data spaced between semi colons only. My tick data program, however, only produces data output with commas or colons! Are there any other options out there? I don't need any complicated indicators, just candlesticks, MACD and ema.... cheers
  11. Hmm yes I'll think about that. When I get the tick data, how do I convert it so that I can see it in a charting program like ninjatrader? TickData says they bundle all their orders with TickWrite software, which writes a variety of ASCII formats. I gather NT can read one of these formats? thanks
  12. Well I'm using OEC demo right now and their eurex data only goes back a few weeks. Also, I'm thinking of opening an account at infinity but apparently Sierra charts can't offer historical intra eurex data for some reason? I'm not sure if this problem exists if you use transact datafeed though. thanks
  13. Hey there, I need some historical data for the DJ Eurostoxx for backtesting purposes. Data from as far back as possible would be excellent. I've googled some tick data vendors and two prominent ones appear to be http://www.regisdata.co.uk and http://www.tickdata.com. Has anyone here had any experience with any of these vendors? The only major difference between the two is that the former only seems to offer data from 2003 onwards, whereas the latter seems to have data from as far back as 1999. I'm not really concerned about the cost unless it costs something like 40 euros per month which is what EUREX charges!! After I obtain this data, how do I use it with a charting platform like Ninjatrader? Do I have to convert it? As you can see I'm new to this backtesting business and any help would be appreciated. Cheers Eric
  14. Hi robin hood, can I ask why you are not looking at the euro stoxx contract as well? I'm a beginner too and I find it a relief from the choppy dax. It has a lower tick value as well, and much more liquidity.
  15. OEC data keeps freezing on me.....It's really annoying. Infinity's datafeed, however, has never frozen ^_^
  16. The DAX is correlated with the ES during pre-market. I know this because I've been studying the DAX for the last few months and looking at the ES occassionally.
  17. Hi, I'm currently testing a system at the moment but OEC only has data from about 3 weeks back at maximum. What I need is at least a year of intraday data for the DAX, for viewing in 1 min. There doesn't seem to be any free sources, does anyone know where I can purchase this data? And what charting software can I use to view the data? Cheers eric.
  18. I have a question about tape reading. I'm currently studying the DAX and read the DOM ladder 1 hour every day, but I find it so easy to lose concentration and think about other things, and sometimes I just stop and start playing music or do other things. Do you have any tips on this? Did you ever doubt what you were doing? I mean, you spent A LOT of time tape reading before it actually begun to make sense.
  19. Excellent thread. I started trading several months ago and I believe I am in stage 2....which means there is much to go yet. But now thanks to you I'm looking forward to it more than ever...
  20. Sorry, the above post doesn't seem very clear. The thing I'm most concerned about is the amount of slippage.
  21. Well hi there, I'm currently in the process of testing my latest trading plan which relies heavily on indicators and execution timing, as most of my trades last for anything from seconds to half an hour. I trade the DAX for three hours a night, from the opening (7pm to 10pm here in New Zealand). I've been using a demo account with OEC and I'm impressed with the fast execution. For those using OEC with real money, is the real-time execution as fast? The commissions seem pretty cheap but I'm not sure what I'd be charged per roundtrip if I make an average of 12 trades a day. I have, however, had some problems with the charting program embedded in OEC Trader. Sometimes when I try to access 1-min graphs of the DAX (or the ES) after trading hours I simply get a blank screen, no chart. And a few minutes ago (during the opening hour), the DOM was very slow in moving (I mean lagging, almost as if my internet bandwidth was too small). However, after rebooting my pc it has gone back to normal. Just wanted to throw that out there. So are there any others here who trade the DAX with OEC? Are there better brokers to trade the DAX with?
