Your Mama Doesn't Trade ... So Wise Up to Yourself!
Moyyim replied to Ingot54's topic in Trading Psychology
Firstly... Great thread and I agree with much of what Ingot and MP-TT have said. This is just an aside about Norman Hallett...I once attended one of the free tele-conference Norman does to generate interest prior to launching his "Disciplined Trader" programs. Anyway, on the telecon, Norman asked his wife, Tisha?, to welcome onto the call a prior student who was going to talk about how his trading had improved. Unfortunately her opening line was..."Welcome "name" and thanks for your income.....' Seems some of the "truth" may be bit too ingrained in her subconscious .. Cheers -
The "problem" I found looking at Kase bars on Tradestation was that the open/high/low/close did not match the actual market price at the time... Now. I acknowledge this may be how they are supposed to calculate/display prices on the setting I tried ?( I didn't investigate further) (like some Heiken Ashi candles don't display the "real open price" etc as they are averages ?)....... but if looking back for testing purposes to see price at open (close, high, low,) of bars it was pointless for me as the real market entry level etc would be different to that displayed by the bar Eg One old example I filmed on my desktop showed: Using a setting of: Kase Bar 1, 1min when the next bar opened at 1087.75 bid / 1088.00 offered (as per 2 x DOM's) the Kase bar immediately showed: open at 1088.25, High 1088.50 eventhough it never traded above 1088.00 Cheers

Have no current CME price data at all... Other exchanges prices ok

Yep... I was a "Senior Dealer" (FX) for a very small Bank in London and previously worked for the large German.... The "easy money" is in the spreads and its often said most Banks lose at purely speculative trading - FX is often just provided as a "loss leader" for other business Cheers

Not noticed any delay. Its important for me orders are server side and worth checking with any broker. I'd note that "bracket orders" using the "Strategy Order Builder" are held on the clients PC. I dont use the S.O.B so not an issue for me. Are you comparing OEC demo to live TOS ?...I believe the TOS demo is delayed data

Per Trade the risk is $300 (3 ctrcts x $100 each) The anticipated reward is: a) $180 (3 points @ $60 per point ie 3 points on 3 ctrcts) or b) $120 (2 points @ $60 per point ie 2 points on 3 ctrcts) To get the $360 he states.. do(achieve)... a) "twice in one session"... or b) "three times in one session"

Hmm....A mention of Ed Seykota in one post..followed by Van Tharp in the next post forces me to post this little (abridged) interchange between the two which I found somewhat amusing....(taken from Ed's website) Thu, 2 Mar 2006 Message From Van Tharp Hi Ed Please find attached a couple of paragraphs for the upcoming book and the questions for you..... Van: "Position sizing is by far the most important aspect of your trading system...." Ed: "I do not hold any one element, such as position sizing, to be the most important element in trading." Van: "If you could give me ten rules to consider with respect to position sizing what would they be?" Ed: 1. Bet high enough to make meaningful profits when you win 2. Bet low enough so you are ok financially and psychogically when you lose. 3. If (1) and (2) dont overlap, dont trade. 4. Don't go adding a bunch of rules that dont work, just so you have 10 rules. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 Wants to Publish a Second Edition Hi Ed, "We're about to release a second edition to Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom....I've always respected the work you've been doing with traders and thought of you as one of the three people who taught me the most about position sizing (which at the time was called money management )...... As a result, I'd like to include a very short interview with you......" Ed's response: "You might also consider adding a chapter to your book about your own personal experiences with Trading. Otherwise, you might consider amending your title to Writing Your Way to Freedom. C'mon Ed, Dont hold back...let us know what you really think.. and then, as to the endorsement on the rear cover ... Ed states (25 May 2007) : ".. The back cover of [Names]'s latest book carries a bogus endorsement from me.....I wonder how much of the stuff inside is real..." Ho Hum....

Hi Thanks for the Heads-Up in the data "issue"..... When installed on OEC, is the only footprint chart available the "Bid/Ask " footprint as shown here... http://www.openecry.com/includes/pdf/OEC_Footprint_Product_Info.pdf or are the other type of footprints/features available... eg Volume Footprint, Delta Footprint and Footprint Profile as shown on the Market Delta Standard package MARKETDELTA :: Standard Thanks
-
Hi Does anyone have any experience or views on the OpenECry - Market Delta (Footprints) add on. I appreciate, as OEC say it is "steeply discounted versus MarketDelta standalone footprint" so wondered how it compared functionality wise etc to the Market Delta "Standard" Package . Thanks

Also worth noting for those who follow the "large" lots in Time/Sales for example that many of these large lots will be broken down in size/ticks, so.... eg: a 500 lot trade could be broken down into 10 x 50 trades.......Apparantly "the number of large trades (> 199 lots) per day on the ES dropped from approximately 1800 to approximately 400." Investor/RT - Answers* (LinnSoft.com) ....those pesky pro's trying to hide their individual "trade size" from the retail crowd :haha: Cheers

For those who haven't seen it ...... The "legendary" documentary "Trader" is available to watch on You Tube Its been up for a while but previously I believe it has been taken down pretty quickly....anyway... The film has gained an almost cult status in trading circles since its release in the late 80s....Apparantly, after its release Jones demanded it be pulled from circulation so old VHS copies are hard to find - maybe he didn't want people to see him putting on his "lucky sneakers" bought at a charity auction....."they were Bruce Willis's - the mans a stud"... Cheers

Yep..(surprise,surprise).. - $249 / month The "Managed Accounts" he's running don't seem to be getting quite the same "performance" results as he claims. http://www.ozfx.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=460
