It seems to me like you are new to stocks since you are unfamiliar with the tax ramifications and got lucky on a crazy trade. If it wasn't insider trading, then you had a big set plopping down almost 50k on a penny stock. If you are unaware of how those stocks trade, you might want to find out. Typically they pop and then fall from grace. So, your 25 cents might seem like a high price soon.

Maybe next time around I'll get a girl that has a website. The more you find on her, the better.
-
The next time I get married, I am going to post her name on this thread and let you guys pick her apart. You guys will find all the shit on her that I couldn't find and save me a lot of time and money. I wish I had access to you 18 years ago.

They can destroy their credibility more by buying more treasuries.

The fed can do more of the same. Not saying it will work, but it tends to force money into the market. They fear deflation. At the same time, Value is being eroded and gold is supposed to be a better store of value.

It has been down and it might be trying to change from down to up. I would consider that as a possibility. But no one ever gets a free ride, so it will attempt to go back down and weed out the weak longs if there are any. So it may once again look like it is going down but the move will only be traders stealing the longs from weaker players. How far down it goes will depend upon how may weak longs have entered or will enter. Fundamentally, gold is likely to go up since the sounds of stimulus are in the media again. In light of the EZ issues and its impact on the US, the fed may preemptively attempt to provide support to support what appears to be a stumbling economy. Stimulus is a more responsible word than printing money.

It was doomed in the 90's when they dreamt it up. Smoke and mirrors pushed off the inevitable and it remains doomed until they form a federal government with centralized taxing authority.

In practice, if you wait to play only high value hands, you will be hard pressed to win money if you are playing against high quality players. If is best to play junk from time to time and show that you have played junk so that you do not get pegged as a tight player. The odds in poker are pretty simple and most decent local non transient players understand them. When you are playing with people who understand the odds, you are playing at best in a negative sum game since there is a rake and a toke. To win, you need to learn how each player acts or reacts when they are in a hand. If you play with the same people long enough, you can come pretty close to guessing their 2 cards (in texas hold'em) they are holding almost down to the exact suit, just as often as you can complete your best friend's or spouse's statement before he or she does or know what he or she is going to say before they say it. You learn to read individual facial, body, breathing, and hand gestures which tell you if he has a good hand or and if you should call or raise or fold. The odds are important, but you make money by learning to play the players and you need to keep the other players confused about the way you play. The odds in poker are much more objective than they are in trading; therefore, traders are disadvantaged to poker players since there are no "nuts" in trading, arbitrage trading aside. The back testers believe that they can approximate the odds, but back testing is a systematic statistical misinterpretation. The parallel "reading traders" in trading may seem like it is harder to do than it is in a poker game where the players are visually inspectable, but it is possible to understand what the other traders are doing by understanding the patterns that present themselves at particular places and times and understanding how you can tell if trader a, b, c is present. When you understand who may be trading at a particular pattern, then you may decide to, for example, fade that fib pull back short instead of taking it long like you normally would have done. Or, you may decide to short the low at support instead of buying the low and expecting support to hold. Learning who you are trading against and how to trade with or against them will magnify your success.

All traders, forex or otherwise, lose because they take big losses and take small gains. Whether they back test with a small sample or spend their time making their system work or whether they back test or have a system at all is completely irrelevant.
-
I suppose that would work. Stock futures didn't exist when I was doing it.

Wow, you are pretty bold. I have a system that has no losing days per year, does not require tweaking whatsoever, is profitable when a market is volatile, choppy, or trending. Bold or not I don't think you have the balls or the money. -
I had you confused with another person. I genuinely thought you were from the US too.
-
You are describing something more of a hedge. I have done this for clients a while back and used options instead of shorting the stock. It was a cheaper alternative to putting up the margin on a $4 million dollar position. There is nothing wrong with trading in and out of the stock if the company allows you to take positions. Some companies want you to disclose all positions that you hold to make certain that there isn't a conflict of interest with some of the companies that they do business with.

In the USA we have IRAs and Roth IRAs that you can trade futures, forex, stock, etc and you do not pay tax on the gains. In the case of an IRA, the money you put in is pretax and you do not pay tax on anything until you take it out at which time all of it is taxable whether it is a gain or not. In fact, you pay a penalty tax under most circumstances if you try to take it out too early. A Roth IRA is funded with aftertax money and grows tax free and when you are over 591/2 Y.O. you can withdraw money from it tax-free no matter how large a gain. Yours truly doesn't use either of these to trade, but each is a legitimate account that any US citizen or resident alien can employ. The US centric thought process is just a phase. Give it another 200 years, it will fade away.

That is just awesome.

Draw-down? There is no draw-down when you can consistently do better than 3% a month or otherwise use the market as an ATM. Leverage? Since it is consistent, there is virtually no amount of leverage that is too much. Volume? Soon enough, you are the market.
-
karoshiman, I know this isn't your idea since I have heard it before, but it is purely delusional. You make a hedge fund sound like a lumbering whale. You have zero advantage over a hedge fund assuming that both of you know how to trade, in fact, you are at a monstrous disadvantage because of your size. They can employ tactics and strategies which are simply not economically feasible for you because of your size. This really needs to be thought through. There are plenty of people on these threads who desire to be viewed as being enigmatic. I understand that anybody can be anything they want to be online and this is fun venue to be something they are not. I suppose the practice fills a gap or something like that. MM

Friggin Josh! You sniffed him out. -
I do not think that 38% returns are impossible, There is a big difference between saying you make 38% a year and saying you made 38% in a year. You claim that your skills are such that you can make 3% per month consistently which is just plain bs. The fact that a few funds did it simply is just what is statistically expected and not the norm Hot shot I challenge you to post only one winning trade before the fact. Just one. But of course you don't have to prove anything to someone like me yada yada, Go hide behind your screen and keyboard where you are safe from exposure.

OOOOW! a hedge fund. They are smart. Imagine how smart you are if they are using your algorithms.I get the gist. Clearly, then, you are the smartest person on this site. I guess you weren't done with your story telling. Can you also snap a whip Indiana? I am glad you won't tell us or show us your results because I think our faces would melt. Just like in the movie when they were exposed to the holy grail.

I beg to differ. I do find it funny that Greeks do not want to stick dildos up their asses as a result of a prolonged recession. What is the world coming to. I suppose it is because they spend too much time being bent over by the government these days that a dildo just isn't stimulating enough anymore.

Some of us? I guess that list includes you which implies that you have the skills and have earned far greater than 3% a month. Of course this is something that we will never be able to see I suppose that you can run mile in under 4 minutes, bench press 700 lbs and squat 1000 lbs. Why not? Spread the bs evenly. It looks cleaner. Most readers on TL do not like lumpy bs. It is always refreshing to get a comic book view of trading.
