Insights into the Mindset of Super Traders – Now Almost Free of Charge
zdo replied to analyst75's topic in Trading Psychology
My unwelcome reality from ~30 years experience is that 90%+ of traders’ ultimate success level is revealed very early at the beginning their trading. For these traders, the adaptive and maladaptive patterns and insight into those patterns are set. These are the losers that drift away, etc etc. And these are the trading successes that get it very early in the game... the Tom Baldwins, etc. who beat it up the first day and keep going. The remaining ~10% have a shot at making ‘changes’ / adjustments to their bodybrains and finding and polishing a method that matches their aptitudes and talents. From this perspective, how are the traders in your book distributed? How about this? You can’t not predict. You can predict. You must predict. But, you also must bring a neural detachment from the prediction and its outcome. Fear-reactivity in the limbic system sets up a neurotransmitter mess and that interferes with frontal lobe ‘groundedness’. By the time a trader gets to “frustrated”, he has way already lost the game. Note the differences - instead of “frustration ends” because you don’t predict, “frustration ends” because your system is structured not to become attached to the predictions. What would your supertraders say about that? I love your answer! I’ve encountered a lot of traders who do “believe this fact” and simultaneously do not “believe this fact”. Sadly the results of this ambivalence is the same as the results for those that “don’t believe this fact”. Few ‘believe’ (a better word is ‘know’ - belief is what you do when you don’t know) this wholly from the center out, not “Very soon”, but before their first trade is ever made. A trader never experiences permanent success in the markets. He finds a way to blow up or his luck run runs out or he loses interest or he loses his flow edge or his trading edge / pos. expectation stops working or he gets old and retires or he gets sick and dies. A ‘career’ is not permanent in any field, particularly in performance work. Please rephrase the question to “How can I experience a long rewarding vocation in trading?” -

I been looking at TL and other forums across the years as an arena for ‘traders helping traders’ and - bluntly - it fkn sucks. One blatantly obvious reason - a viewed vignette or problem is not a person or contact with a person. Also, the story in the post is not what’s really happening. ... Let’s dig a little bit deeper. One angle is that most posters and responding peers are not ‘trauma informed’. I won’t ‘define’ the terms trauma or trauma informed here. Build your own concepts and definitions. I will say this though - everyone comes in with a set of usually unconscious, residual pre-existing conditions that must be addressed before putting a full load on the system. Almost every trader comes in already locked into and overspecialized in his or her own set of fear-reactivity patterns. AND!!!!!!!The body keeps the score!!!!!!! For REAL traction, dedicate your beginning level of practice to compensating for and clearing prefrontal and limbic system overspecializations created by your ‘traumas’ - not on mastering some dead master’s methods, or reinventing backtesting, or ‘learning’ to interpret the media narrative for the day... Getting back to the assertion that most posting peers are not ‘trauma informed’ - One in 20 posts will be truly topic relevant to that particular trader and his or her ‘trauma’ For example: We have posters who build great standing on method and technique and fixes of same, then chop off their own legs telling other traders to ignore the issues in their bodybrains and minds and simply focus on method and technique and fixes of same. Unfortunately, those are among the better responses. It gets worse. Much worse The aspect of acknowledgement of ‘trauma’ is salient too. It is ultimately on the trader to become aware of these chronic impediments to flow and performance ... ... ‘Conditioning’ self is not ‘training’ etc etc etc my allotted posting time is almost up ... These may be observations and comments for a once and future trading world. We don’t even see the typical beginner questions, method exploration questions, etc, etc, etc... any more in forums. Today, it appears a whole generation of potential traders are getting stuck in their mama’s basement playing video games ...and they aren’t teenagers anymore. They’ll jump all kinds of hoops to get a good gaming machine and the ‘pay’ to play the games, but won’t jump the hoops to raise some capital and trade. Most of them would tell you the trading game is rigged against the little guy, etc. - and on one level they would be right - price discovery has been seriously corrupted. But what they're never realizing is the (effectively 10-20 % virtual) games they’re playing are far more rigged against their lives than exchange traded instruments. Just sayin

mist, My post was certainly not intended to discourage enquiry or replies. Simply, I noted low probability of answers coming from this forum and attempted to suggest other paths to take to get the info you need. It’s probably a good question. I’ve noticed across the years the higher the quality of a trading questions on forums the lower the quality and quantity of answers. The very best questions receive no replies at all. If it were me, I would go on their site and do the math comparing costs of spread markups vs commisionfixed. ... and... I would not pay any attention to testimonials period - because those giving positive testimonials probably had never been in a ‘messy situation’ with orders and if they did, were in the tiny % that was just plain got lucky... ie if a trader gets into 4 or 5 order ‘messes’ a month, it’s almost guaranteed no positive testimonials are ever coming out of that trader - even if the brokerage’s services are as good as anywhere else. How tf would I know these things? (answer includes... I been in the brokerage business, studied my clients...) Plus many of those with negative testimonials usually had plenty of time to fix/move the dam order and didn’t. How tf would I know these things? (answer includes I have never been screwed by a broker and I have never made an order mistrake) btw Anal75 was just talking about this stuff at http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/trading-psychology/20703-how-you-see-world-has-significant.html#post207815 Wishing you all the best, zdo

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/14/opinion/sunday/when-is-speech-violence.html?mcubz=0 Dang jp, I was just kidding. I thought I was surely. You missed the wink? I am also not a good poster. However, the only “effort” I will be putting into a just sayin thread is to attempt to make the wink and :razzn u: emoti larger * ... that’s about all a just sayin thread deserves imo. Also, I can’t imagine presuming too much in this thread either. Seems like a ‘safe space’ to presume whatever is pleasant to me... ps I will commit to trying only to give you a ribbin hard time about your presumptions, rather than lecture you. Surely is uncomfortable having it strapped back... Still not going to cut it off like John Massive Spike in Bitcoins Causes John McAfee to Make An Outrageous Prediction, Promises to 'Eat His Own Dick' On National Television - Trading with The Fly just sayin *edit: check the source... you'll see font sizing the emoti didn't work. bummer. Fwiw I’m still in this same long scale trade. Same plan. Have capital allocated for a ‘crash’ in energy prices... which may never happen...:missy: fwiw - On many levels this is a peak technology / peak infrastructure play more than it is a peak supply or peak production play . Most would equate technology / infrastructure with production. In this case, I think it's better to seg them out... Getting exasperated with rolling it every quarter - but hey, that’s scale trading... 'Hedging' tactics have changed since last post from selected / fixed level using stops underneath to overboughts using 'limit's above... but already looking at cycles for when to shift tactics back to fixed level / stops underneath ... Average net long price is down to ~ 34 - after 'successfully' trading/ (hedging and lifting) 7 of the last 4  good downdrafts using close month contracts.

They approached him. We can be certain he would have welcomed dirt on Hillary. Completely ‘innocent’ ? No. But, it’s not illegal at all. Any election ‘collusion’ laws broken? We can also be certain that dem diplomats and polititians approached and polled their Russian gov’t contacts AND welcomed any volunteered dirt on Trump’s deals and relationships in Russia. Example: They’ve already sued Trump for comping rooms and amenities to Russian officials at his casinos, for pete’s sake, using information volunteered or begged for from Russians. They also offered bribes for intelligence about any deals and dealings Trump had with Russian financial institutions, and even published fake news about it. We can be certain they would have welcomed dirt on Trump. Completely ‘innocent’ ? No. But, it’s not illegal. Any election ‘collusion’ laws broken? Biases are tricky. Shifty ing biases... even trickier All of them are dirty - acknowledged. No clean driven snow in that world... but... We’re being psy-op ted. Imagine if the msm put the same energy and time into the only the allegations that have some grounding against Hillary --- they wouldn’t have time for any other programming or for commercials. In quantity alone, her ‘potential’ scandals are running at a 30:1 rate to Trump’s. In actual legality, morality, etc etc -> ?!?!? ... but If you value trump blood smell more than calling out hypocrisy then charge right on in... just sayin’ Of Two Minds - We're Fragmenting Because our Experience of the Economy Is Fragmenting
